The first batch of 39 horses participating in the Shanghai Longines Global Champions Tour arrived in Shanghai early last Sunday morning and settled into the brand-new Juss International Equestrian Center.
From May 3rd to 5th, the Shanghai Longines Global Champions Tour is set to unfold at the newly inaugurated Juss International Equestrian Center. As the event approaches, various preparations have entered the final stage.
At around 1am, the plane carrying the first batch of 39 top race horses landed safely at Pudong International Airport, and customs officers completed various quarantine inspections as soon as the plane landed to ensure that the animals enter the venue in a healthy state.
At 4:30am, eight special purpose large transport vehicles carrying the horses arrived at Juss International Equestrian Center and all the horses were in good condition.
34 more horses are set to arrive in Shanghai on Monday. The Juss International Equestrian Center is equipped with 70 fixed stables and 50 temporary stables to ensure that each horse has a comfortable living environment, so that the upcoming event will be held smoothly. Moreover, the center also prepares special hay and carrots for the horses.
After arriving in Shanghai, these horses will receive warm-up training after rest and a short period of adaptation. The horses participating in this event gathered in the Netherlands, were transported to Belgium and then flied to Shanghai via Doha. During the 16-hour trip, they were accompanied by 11 grooms and a veterinarian.
Zhang Yongping, a staff member of the event operator, said that the horses got off the plane at around 1am, and by a little before 5am, most of the horses have entered the stables without complications. Compared with the past six years, the entire transport and processing procedures have been greatly improved, and the time horses spend in confined spaces has also been greatly reduced. , Zhang said.
The Shanghai Longines Global Champions Tour is the highest-level five-star event under the International Equestrian Federation. It is also the highest-level and most internationally influential equestrian event to be held in the Chinese mainland. The newly completed equestrian center will also hold night races for the first time, allowing the audience to indulge into a unique, elegant atmosphere.
Zhang Yongping also said that the new permanent fixed venue is a comprehensive upgrade compared to the temporary venue of the past six years. This time, the operators have newly upgraded on-site equipment as well as sound and lighting systems to allow for a better viewing experience; moreover, since night racing is more common for European horses, the lighting at the venue will also minimize the shadows of the horses, thus to make the horses feel very comfortable, Zhang explained.
