Be careful on that board! As you've already experienced going out too far can be dangerous and even small waves and currents can take you out much further than you'd think. Nothing to be afraid of but something to keep in mind

Ahh you guys are living the dream! as a fellow island woman I just wanna share some sea safety tips ! 1. The sea currents are most of the times, following the wind. if the wind is blowing towards the beach/shore, the current will follow and vise versa. If you see some dark spots in the sea, with a bit of wave going on, usually it is a sign of a strong current, so try to stay away. 2. Also, everything in the sea seems closer than it actually is, so be very careful with the distance. Don't think you can swim back so easily even if you think the shore is close. 3. If you find yourselves stuck in a current, do not try to swim - surf against it, you will just lose energy. Instead try to swim verticaly from the direction of the current in hopes you will get out of it. 4. if it starts to get windy, going the oposite direction of the shore, you could find yourselves deep in the sea in a matter of seconds so be aware of that. 5. And lastly, even if the sea is very calm, if a boat passes by , it will create waves. Of course I don't want to scare you but it is best to always respect the sea! keep having fun !

Just an advice : Currents in some places can be really strong. It would be safer to have someone on the beach to watch you and call for help if you are drifted in the deep and cannot come ashore!
