In this video we look back at teenager Anthony as he prepares for his first day in juvenile prison. From the time the prison van arrives carrying several shackled teenagers, to the entire intake process, we see what juveniles really go through when they arrive for their first experience in juvenile prison. Teen inmate Anthony tells our production crew what the experience is like and how family and friends desert you once you land in lockup. At the end of this video is an update on Anthony 14 years after he took those first steps inside juvenile prison.

I worked at a juvenile detention center for two years. I went back to adult prison when I resigned. I did an intake on a young man who was I believe 13 years old. After they take a shower you will inspect their body to note any tattoos or bruising (like the officer at 14min). From his shoulder blades down to the back of his knees were whip marks. When I asked about them, the young man said that his mother would use a cord she cut off of a lamp. She would whip him and his little brother for anything they did wrong in her eyes. The teen got in trouble so he would be taken into state custody. Some kids are doomed for failure because of the so called parents in their lives.

It's just sad how these kids have to go through this. Make me feel lucky to be free.

My first day at juvenile prison in Maple Lane Washington I got my butt played with by the doctor. My first day at adult prison in St cloud Minnesota I got to watch a movie about not accepting the payday candy bar or you will get your butt played with.

Poor kid, of course he made mistakes and had to pay the price but I hope he had a chance later in life.

At 14 living in TX after my parents divorced n my mom moved outta state i was saltyy in court n chose 4me and my lil sis 2 stay in tx w my dad cus i refused 2moved out of state w her new BF... Long story short I got caught with several felonies worth of drugs at school was looking at Juvie then straight to prison and luckily i was able2 just move 2 live w my mom. N even after that i still did drugs for 12 yrs luckily only thing ever got caught w was a lil weed which isnt even on recoed now cuz it's legal THANK GOD cus i did heroin/fent for over 10 yrs sadly

My heart hurts for these children. If there was proper identification of care and needs early on, much of this wouldn't happen

I was in jail in 2019 and it was horrible and it's been 4 years I'm staying out of trouble

Big shoutout to the lady doing intake. She treated those guys like human beings which is rare in that environment. The folks that do that job in alabama yell and make smart-ass comments the whole time you're talking to them

What had Anthony done to land in a prison ? Did he get a prison uniform on his first day ? And most important : did he succeed to get his GED while in prison ?
