Had a 77 Dodge Power Wagon in high school. Used to find the biggest drifts I could find in the winter and would plow through them. Went through 4 foot deep drifts easily. Got in trouble by dad once because I packed the whole engine compartment full of snow from going through drifts, lol. Anyway, loved that thing, even if it was a bit rusty.

The only place where FCA lags: engine options. The competition is getting tough, and the PW (RAM Rebel) really needs and engine option to distinguish itself from the rest of it's more pedestrian siblings, and to stay current. I say bring over the 6.2: V-8 Hellcat engine and spread the joy around. Even a slightly detuned version would declare the PW undisputed king of the hill, and turn the competition green with envy. I say 2020 would be a very good year.

It locks (front and rear) up much faster if you do a slow turn while trying to engage the differential locks. Sometimes cogs aren’t 100% lined up and a small turn below 2mph or large circle helps lock them up quick.

I understand this is an off road vehicle first, but you guys mentioned 1100 lb payload capacity which makes the truck almost useless for many towing applications. Say you want to take your family camping and you’ve got your wife and two kids with you and that’ll take up say 700 lbs leaving you with just 400 lbs leftover for tongue weight of your trailer and camping gear. Or even worse is if you and your family want to simply put an ATV in the bed of the truck and go have fun at an ATV park you’re possibly over payload capacity!
@AkioWasRight
@AkioWasRight 5 жыл бұрын
Well, it's not supposed to be a do-everything, no sacrifice vehicle, it's primary an off-road vehicle that gives up capacity for its off-road abilities. Still, you at least can do some towing and hauling with it, and you at least have options for lighter, lower spec and higher capacities.
@jamesvelvet3612
@jamesvelvet3612 5 жыл бұрын
My guess is someone is confusing "cargo capacity" with "payload capacity". They are different. Cargo capacity is the rating of well, cargo. The calculus takes into account the following: 150lb person in each of the available seats. Say a ruck has 6 seats x 150 lbs each. That is 900 lbs. Those 900 lbs are deducted from the payload capacity and leaves a cargo capacity {what you can put in the bed) of 1,100 lbs. Otherwise, six big dudes would exceed the weight this truck could carry. If I am wrong and the payload is less than a Ridgeline or minivan then Fiat needs to go back to the drawing board ;-)
@mark7067
@mark7067 5 жыл бұрын
@@jamesvelvet3612 You might be surprised. The standard payload of the previous model was only slightly less at around 1,450lbs. If you add in features, it's only less than that. I don't see why the new one would be much better.

@@MrGreatness412 my guess is the springs that get you high ramps scores also take away a lot of payload. the axles, brakes, frame etc is the same so if you swapped suspension or got a tradesman with the power wagon package I suspect you get a lot of it back. Something else to consider is that the power wagon has a unique radius arm up front that flexes more than the standard suspension but offers a lot less lateral stiffness. That combined with the softer springs and the higher CG probably combine against it.

J name Yep. Sort of apples and oranges. Also, however, these are the two big off-road trucks on the market besides the midsize trucks. Power wagon is super at slow crawling and articulation situations. Raptor is good at a very large spectrum of off-roading. Would be a very interesting video. I’d love to see them put side by side on some extreme steep terrain testing traction and also some real articulation tests as well as some mud and water tests.

I have both (2 year old) and yes you are talking about two different trucks completely. IMO - for paved streets, sand, off road high speed driving and just everyday driving the Gen 2 Raptor wins. For towing, mudding, work, low speed, bad gravel roads, hauling and low speed technical trails the Power wagon rules plus it costs much less and is more ready to use right off the showroom floor. I love them both but for different reasons.

Ya, I am just baffled as to why FCA didn't just put air bags on the back along with the factory coils. Then the truck does everything. I added bags on my 16 PW and it does everything a regular 3/4 does. Only cost me 300 for the bags, put em on myself, and they made it a beast and it did nothing to my flex. I regularly play hard off-road and then go put 14,000 lbs on the ball when I grab the trailer and excavator and go make those green stamps. Have to make all that money so I can pay in my account down at the gas station owner's place. Lol

That's just what FCA advertises. I put air bags in my 16 PW and pull 14,000 on the ball ( 16' dump trailer and 4 ton excavator with multiple buckets) almost daily. The bags don't hinder flex and they weren't expensive either, see I consider it a win win. Other than the crappy gas mileage, it's a beast that does everything I want it to.

@@bobvincent4841 that means you are exceeding the vehicle rating. It is rated to tow what it can based on the stopping performance, not it's ability to get a load moving. Maybe you aren't to far over the tow capacity to be considered dangerous, but you still shouldn't.

@@lonespartan31289 but similar(non Power Wagon) Ram 2500s are rated to tow much more. I've read that it is because of the liability of lockers, low range, disconnects, and a heavy load. Never underestimate the ability of the general public to do something really stupid and blame the manufacturer.
