Very interesting, as always I enjoy your first impression videos. I not quite sure if I really want to attempt a wooden ship build. I don't think I would have the patience to attempt it. Thanks Jason as always, I appreciate you sharing these videos with us. Who knows, maybe one day I may get inspired to take on one of these wooden ship models. See you, in your next video Jason.

wood ship models are all about the building, if you like that element you will love them

Totally agree. We’re not any better than any other plastic modeller. Skills are totally transferable. They take longer, sure…but you can jump in and jump out any time you like: it’s YOUR adventure!

I’m building Caldercraft’s HM Brig Supply at the moment. I’m up to the deck fittings. I’m surprised almost daily that the parts are all pre-cut. I mean, on the Royal Yacht Caroline, I had to make rails for belaying pins with two support beams from scratch stock. Here, they’re pre-drilled, pre-cut and the support beams are pre-slotted! Beautiful. I very much enjoyed you letting me explore your kit. Now... The big question. Are Caldercraft out of business? Their web-page hasn’t been updated for literally years, and the HMS Surprise has been in final development for close to fifteen years now. I’m an Aubrey / Maturin fan-boy, and I’ve been waiting patiently...Vanguard models seem to be the Wingnut Wings of wooden ships now.

Caldercraft are still in business, look on the website Jason mentioned - there's a link to their newish on-line store (my first reply got deleted by KZfaq as it had a link in) at the top of the updates page).

@@toboldlygosmodelworks1973 Yeah, but the Australian supplier (where I purchased mine) no longer has any Caldercraft content on his website, the British supplier’s site simply lets you add any ship to your basket, whilst the Victory and Diana kits have been out of stock on every other site worldwide for literally years. Caldercraft designed and released a new kit every few months fifteen years ago, but not a single one since that time. Sadly, none of this gives me the ability to purchase another with confidence. Reputable companies update their web content periodically. JoTiKa’s hasn’t changed since before the term Brexit was invented.

Hi Jason, great review. I'm sure this will be a beautiful model when finished. Three months to build? It would probably take me 3 years! Thanks for sharing, see you next time.

3 months I think is a little optimistic

Hi, just came across your video review on the Mary Rose. I have had this excellent kit in my stash for sometime and my kit box is also a bit dog eared! My only question with it is the currently unknown historical accuracy of the design of the forecastle. I believe that the Mary Rose Trust do have some of the forecastle still in the Solent under sand bags waiting for some future excavation! Perhaps when these parts are recovered we may know if any modifications will be needed!! 😉⚓

It wont be raised any time soon cost is at least £1m to raise it, until then this remains the most accurate kit available

not yet its my next wood build. I have built Pickle and snake, still hoping we will see surprise one day. for me they are the best wooden kits you can buy.

@@ModelkitStuff , great stuff. Really glad you like them. Some upgrades are on the kits , some white metal parts are now brass turned and some 3D on R/C kits

Jason, having never built a wooden ship, what type of kit would you recommend for a first time build?
@ModelkitStuff2 жыл бұрын
Sorry I missed this. Some company’s do starter kits which are quire basic, Caldercraft schooners is a good option also small Artasina Latina kits both have great instructions altho the latter are less accurate
