The real question is what this would do to a T-90 or BMP.
@shephard
@shephard 4 жыл бұрын
Probably pretty well against the BMP. For the T-90, sides and back would be vulnerable - depends on the ammunition type used of course... But we don't know for sure!
@roadhouse6999
@roadhouse6999 4 жыл бұрын
@@shephard I thought about it a little more, and considering the fact that the T-90's first line of defense is a wall of shaped charges designed to push incoming projectiles back, I think this weapon's high rate of fire would allow it to quasi-double-tap it's way through the reactive armor. Still, though, I'm not sure if the second 50mm would be able to get through the hull. At the very least, it could open up a window for an M1 or Leopard MBT to slap it with the 120mm, or land multiple hits on the T-90's tracks and weapons. Essentially, it could disable a T-90 but not destroy it.

It would shred a BMP in a five round burst. It would stand a really good chance of completely blinding a T-90 and making it a combat kill if there were no supporting forces with the tank and it saw the tank first.

roadhouse699 Most likely than not, by the time all those bullets can penetrate the skin, the vehicle carrying this thing would have already been blasted by the T-90’s gun.

Back then, it took 2-3 seconds to load the 50mm in a tank even with a struggle. Now, it's a chain-driven autocannon that can be remotely controlled. WWII tank loaders: "Are we a joke to you?"

It still won't destroy MBTs, IFVs will still only need 3-5 shots for reliable kills, and it would be utterly wasting excessive ammunition against infantry. Aside from the fact, the base seemed flimsy, little to no recoil is apparent. Further mounting on mobile platforms i.e., all-terrain light buggy type vehicles and the like, can put these assets where needed on a constantly changing basis thus, provide a forward attack mode into full automation with lightening results. I kinda sympathize with "Ivan," for he will have many days of migraine headaches dealing with this firepower.

No this is going to the Striker. The Bradley do to it's rather.... compromised, design can't really be mounted with a big enough turret to house this weapon, in theory you could redesign the vehicle to do so, but the changes would be so extensive the current production line for the Bradley would be rendered useless leading to the nesesity for a rather expensive governmental investment on a vehicle that is and was for all intents and purposes obsolete in the early 90s.

@@sirmoke9646 In the navy, yes, in the Army not really. unless your using huge guns the army doesn't use it like that instead a 0.50 cal is the same as cal .50. as its referring to bullet diameter and type. In Navel guns then yes its length instead of diameter. Case and point the Iowa class battleships use 16in .50 caliber guns while the older North Dakota's use 16/45. Then today you have the 5in 64 plus, I've lost track but you get the point. That said many today associate caliber with bullet diameter regardless of gun type. After all the word itself is a measuring term so length and diameter really don't matter. It just depends on what your building and need to keep track of certain aspects for production. The Navy has always had its own thing compared to ground forces.
@Ggb129
@Ggb129 4 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure ground forces use calibers to measure barrel length, at least with tanks. The Leopard 2 has a 120mm L44 or L55, depending on variant, and many other tank guns are measured in this way. I’m not sure the navy is doing it’s own thing, as much as just using a standard method of measuring the length of the bore of a gun.

Also what kind of projectiles would this thing be using? I mean 50mm is a step up in firepower for sure, but it doesn't seem big enough to take on actual tank armor.

hypothetically, if this was mounted backwards on a motorcycle, how much horsepower do you gain while it's firing?
@imm0rt544
@imm0rt544 3 жыл бұрын
What you're referring here is not horsepower (technically hp is generated via engines of sorts) what you're looking for is the velocity or momentum. To do so you need to calculate the muzzle velocity of the projectile, every action have an equal and opposite reaction, the force generated from the exiting projectile will inflict back to the motobike therefore pushing it forward with a given speed.

Looking closely, it seems to me that the barrel is reciprocating a bit. Can't tell how much, but the first rapid burst (approx the 43-62second timeframe) it seems to do it, if you watch the muzzle brake closely. Plus there's that giant brake. If the gas venting is any indication, that's seriously cutting down on recoil transmitted to the mount. But I'm not an engineer, so that may be a meaningless item as far as how much recoil mitigation is actually due to the brake.
