They are a fantastic band. Almost unmatched in chord choices and appregiated lines. Strong grasp of melody. If you want to hear pure compositional genius listen to Marigold by them. Prayer Position is genius too. They engineer and produce their own stuff. Misha does much of the orchestration, Nollie produces the drums and bass. He plays bass for the band. The other guys come up with their parts. Misha composes the strings. The band is very self contained.
@JesusOfPaign
@JesusOfPaign Жыл бұрын
Nollie is also the main engineer, right? Misha composes a lot of the orchestral and electronic parts, but I believe in general the production and engineering falls to Nollie. Maybe even the mixing as well, if not the mastering.

This is the song that got me into metal. Rick Beato did a video about it and I liked it enough to listen multiple times and digest it, then I gave more Periphery a chance and today I'm all about metal. This song is a little different from a lot of Periphery stuff because it has a dramatic, orchestral sound to it. You can hear it in the background at certain parts and it really adds to the track to actually make it sound like more than just metal. I think that's why it hooked me and why you guys enjoyed it so much. If you want to do more Periphery, you will have to check out Reptile at some point, but it's 17 minutes long. Worth it, but that's a lot to handle. Stranger Things is also a pretty good representation of Periphery at their best.

I’ve known of Periphery for a few years now and listened to a few of their songs on repeat, but have recently been going further into their discography. This band really emphasizes making each song they make feeling like a journey which I love about them. They are a progressive metal band with a bit of djent sprinkled in, but they are not afraid to switch up the sound which makes each song they make enjoyable and unpredictable from the first listen. My favorite rock/metal band, coming from someone who grew up liking hip-hop/r&b.

Periphery is a good band, more than good, excellent, Misha, Mark and Jake are probably the best guitar trio in the world, alongside Nolly (bassist /producer / engineer), Matt Halpern the drummer and Spencer Sotelo the vocalist (arguably the best in the world). This song is one of my favorites of their catalogue, everything from the C ostinato part in the bass, the guitar fills, the drums, the vocals, the analog synth used to give the guitar more body, there's so much to digest here, truly a wonderful wonderfull song

While I agree with most comments appreciating Periphery rightfully- I am just shocked not to see “Lune” ‼️among these songs mentioned! Do not miss out. ‼️ Also because the main orchestra arrangement at the end is a thread that connects several songs through the album Select Difficulty and that is only completely opened up in Lune! So a must hear! And I agree Periphery is absolutely outstanding as band, as engineers as musicians, individually and collectively both! Thank you for appreciating them nearly 7 years after the record was released- better later than never 😅 btw if the PRS is available (Mark Holcomb plays his signature models for the band) I am happy to receive it! Greetings from Budapest, Hungary 😉

It's so funny you mentioned the engineers and the guitar tones because largely, these guys did it all by themselves. The "drum tracker" is their former bassist. The guitarists (one of them specifically) programmed basically everything you hear. But you bring up a great point that they used a real orchestra and a real dude out in Utah, US, arranged and recorded all of the extra instruments you heard.

I hope the fact that spencer doesnt belt out those SUPER high notes on the newer stuff, (especially the two new singles) isnt because hes losing his voice and losing range, but more of a stylistic choice. Hopefully its more of a evolution of him as a song writer as opposed to vocal damage. My soul would be crushed if in the coming years he completely loses his voice and cant sing anymore.
