Keep it as is, stickers are part of its history. Cut the rust out, weld her up, jobs a good un. The oil not coming out, reminded me of a Suzuki Samurai SJ 1300 I had years ago. Jumped in to go to work and it wouldn’t turn over. Phone our workshop, they sent a recovery lorry for it and me. At the workshop we took the sump plug out and no oil ran out. A screw driver got stuck up in the hole and still nothing came out. Sump off, black jelly was all we found!

I grew up in a 67 beetle my mom drove. Named it Gertie. She loved that car. It was red with black or dark grey seats. 40 HP. Sometimes I feel like finding one and restoring it to bone stock like mom's car was.

Mice like to make a nest in the fan housing! I learned that one the hard way! My wife’s 58 convertible. It started on fire 🔥 on the highway. It didn’t burn down but it was close. A passer bye stopped and poured his bottled water on it. I got lucky, I haven’t touched in 15 years. I have a rebuilt 36h for it just got to move it up the priority list. Thanks for the videos

I have rescued a Geo Metro 3-cylinder engine and an old MG 1100 engine by first draining oil, refilling with inexpensive 30 Wt plus a bottle of either Marvel Mystery Oil of Seafoam an d running for about 40 minutes. Drained a lot of nastiness and gunk out, changed filters and refilled with nice oil. Neither has electronic issues but ran like the cr@p that came out before, and then a couple tanks with the Seafoam in the gas, replaced valve cover gaskets, and the engines ran. I am amazed that most of the KZfaq rescue video folks do not do (or show) the oil clean out. At least on these VW's, you show the horrible state of the oil drains and do clean them, so thanks!

What should you do? What is necessary and NOTHING more. Do your fluids/brakes/elec/rust and then leave it. The car had a life, do enough to let it grow old disgracefully. It's a gem and I love it.

That sounds great! I don't see any immediate need to take the engine out, it sounds like it's running on all cylinders. My bet is the compression is OK and will probably improve a bit as it runs more. Just a few more oil changes, make sure the brakes work, it shifts and you have a runner. Congrats!

If can't get that brand bottle put Automatic transmission type 2 or 3 whole bottle in motor run thru for 10 mins and changed engine oil plus filter screen on VW car ! Plus changed PCV Valve, Air also Fuel Filters Plus Sparks plugs also cap plus rotor and wires too!

It's a runner so leave the block in for the time being. It sounded alright, no clonks or bangs just let it loosen up and then check the brakes, most important! Oh I would keep the stickers It's part of the history of the car. The only thing that lets it down is the bad paint job but the whole car is very solid just a few rusty bits. Jason, I thought I would give you a tip for cleaning up chrome. It comes from Henry Cole a British man like myself. He is on TV here often, into vintage bikes. Buy some aluminium foil, the stuff you put on your turkey, tear some off the roll and make a pad you then rub the chrome with the foil. It creates a chemical reaction between the two surfaces. It works very well depending on how pitted the chrome is. Give it a try, Mustie 1 reminded when he said about polishing the bumper. 👍👍
