I second the suggestion of The Killing Fields. A phenomenal movie about an incredibly horrifying subject matter. If a film like star wars brought wonder into my life, the Killing Fields was the film that really opened my eyes to the potential horrors of the world. After seeing that movie, I had nothing but the utmost respect for the way Cambodia and its people have endured.
@LangKuoch
@LangKuoch 7 жыл бұрын
Operative 21 I definitely agree! My parents always tell my sister and I stories about what they endured growing up then, but nothing put it quite into perspective until I watched the Killing Fields. Before it was just stories my parents told, but then it truly became a reality once I was able to see it visually.

Bless her soul! SO keen to see this film and the actor/film crew's perspective on such a devastating turmoil that shook our country to the very core - and how our people overcame this through perserverance and resilience. Hopefully this film will show the beauty of Cambodia, and how a tragic history did not deter a nation's outlook on life or their faith in humanity.

I am very excited to see this, as I think this film is so important to tell the story of what happened there, and so that people outside of the country don't just see them as victims and instead as People, which is what victims of war are often forgotten as, as being People, and all that that entails, eg: being an individual, and being part of what is such an incredibly old, rich, diverse, wonderful, and exciting culture. This film looks fantastic, and I think Angelina's the perfect person for this project: given that she has read the book and been inspired by it, is close friends with the author, as well as having worked with her in her capacity as a UN worker for a Long time now (15 years); and because her son is From Cambodia, so it's a topic that is extremely close to her heart and one she will treat very sensitively and respectfully; and also, because of her high profile status - this will open this project up to so much wider audiences than if an lesser-known or unknown director had taken it on, and ultimately that is the point of this, to get it seen by as Many people as possible and to tell the truth about what happened there. Also I'm thrilled that Netflix would chose to be part of a project like this as, much like Angelina's high profile, Netflix has such a Huge sphere of influence, and so this film will be seen by so many, and will touch the lives of so many people who were previously unaware of Cambodia's people. More projects like this one please!! :D

She's always been thin, but I think what you see is her just getting older. She's been in the spotlight for over 20 years, so all it takes is seeing one of her earlier movies or a touched up photo of her for real time footage of her to make her seem less. I still remember seeing her for the first time in Hackers and thinking that she was the hottest woman on the planet.
@cerebralmethod9112
@cerebralmethod9112 7 жыл бұрын
Yes Angie, that makes sense. I would imagine she's very health conscious and probably eats all the right things, religiously. But, because she's very compassionate and emotive, there could be some masochistic tendencies with respect to her not eating as much as she could.

Such a weird contradiction about how people feel about Jolie. Here you have someone saying she feels so much and is so passionate, yet she has a huge list of people in her past who (while not doctor's) have wondered if she's sociopathic, including her own father. It's very interesting to wonder who this woman really is. Regardless, movie looks good. I know I'll be checking it out.
@blondetiger3940
@blondetiger3940 7 жыл бұрын
That's the first time I've heard that word attached to her... She has never seemed antisocial and in pre-motherhood interviews with current and past friends, I've heard her described as empathic quite a bit. And I definitely wouldn't put much stock in what Jon Voight says about her considering he wasn't there in her childhood and the stuff he said to the press when she adopted Maddox (who knows what was going on in their relationship at the time). Basically, just because he's her father doesn't mean he's a more emotionally stable, well-rounded individual who has a good grasp of diagnosing personality disorders :P
@TheRisky9

This movie is fantastic. What I really like about it, is that Jolie is absolutely uncompromising with the perspective from which the story is told. In conventional films, there's usually some sort of explanation to what is happening. They meet a character or maybe one of the parents explains what's happening and who is who. That never happens in this film. None of the events are ever fully explained in any sort of wider context. So what you are left with as the audience is to observe without the full picture, just as would happen if you were a child.
