Ren caught lyme disease after being bitten by a tick. The illness was misdiagnosed for many years. Ren is currently undergoing treatment in Canada. There is a back catalogue of his work, all worth listening to. Nice reaction, thank you.

Check his back catalogue. It is amazing. His 3-part morality tale (sung live) called The Tale of Jenny and Screech, with the last part called Violet's Tale, is Shakespeare for 21st century. Can I also recommend his duet with Chinchilla called Chalk Outlines again, sung live it is heartbreaking. But there is much more to find. Including his busking video. He has a tragic back story, which will explain a lot, he had stem cell treatment in the States, and is currently in Canada for further treatment.

Maybe you already found the Ren story by clicking around, but to summerize... He is a street performer/busker at heart and thanks to some of his incredible performances and gigs, he was due to sign with Sony. They cancelled and backed out around the time they noticed his health took a drastic turn for the worse. His energy levels collapsed and was forced, due to bad medical advice and misdiagnosis, to be bed-bound. For the next 10 years he's battled with an undetected form of Lyme's disease which virtually crippled him, causing his mental health to suffer horribly. He finally began to recieve treatment, which has helped somewhat although from what I understand, there is a constant pain which manifests itself in changes in his appearance sometimes. These recent songs seem to be a mixture of catharsis and screaming in rage at the injustice of how his healthcare has been mishandled for years. Awesome, mercurial performer with poetry and artistry in everything he does. One of a kind... Let's hope his current treatment (going on in canada right now) gives him the freedom to finally enjoy his successes.

Hi, Lucy. I really love your simple and honest reaction, and even though it is short, your reaction to Ren covers a few important things. Yes, he is brilliant and I agree that he can regarded as a genius. His use of words is definitely poetic, especially given the amount of imagery he uses. I believe this to be a sort of breakdown on what transpired in his life. Amidst all the struggles, he uses his knowledge and expertise to bravely lay his life bare to the public. This sketch of self is ingeniously delivered.

I think I have watched about 50 reaction videos now. I tear up every time I hear this piece. Ren just touched so many lives and I noticed he comments on almost every reaction video. Who is Ren? Ren is a man who dances with his devils, sings with his demons, and leaves us all better for having heard that he existed. Because his daily struggle is so much more than most of our lives struggles combined. But he is so humble he would say he is only telling his stories. When in reality, he is telling all the dirty rotten and sad stories that everyone is afraid to share

Ren comes from Wales, UK (born in Bangor, raised on Anglesey) and lives in Brighton, UK. He was treated for mental health issues and psychosis for nearly 10 years and was told that his problems were 'all in his head'. He was finally correctly diagnosed by Dutch doctor as having Lyme disease - by which time the damages to his systems had been done. He is now in Canada receiving treatment to try and repair as much of that damage as possible. This was shot live and in one take (but 4 attempts.)

when i first saw this video it was just by chance. There is a lot of music i do not listen to and basically stick to what i grew up with, soft rock. To be honest i do not like rap music and when he started after the initial intro i stopped it and thought what is this . i then took a deep breath and played it. Since then i have watched many peoples reactions and i have watched it over and over, i now love it and appreciate how talented this guy really is. There is so much going on in this video to pick up on if you look out for them, the lights flickering, his voice change, the style of guitar play when he is a different person, his facial expressions and so on. He not only has a great singing voice, a great lyricist and awesome guitar player but raps, sings about real stuff and seems a really nice guy. Ren was born to do this and entertain because people connect so much to him. Hes a top guy and from Wales too (go Ren!) I have seen a few of his vids now, brilliant. So glad you liked this.

10 years ago he was bitten by a tick and contracted Lymes disease. He had just signed with Sony records and they dropped him when he became ill. Ten years of misdiagnosis and treatment experiments followed. Ren didn't just from a cloud he has been plugging away with his music all the time. He is a good human being and you might want to check out some of his other songs or stuff from the band he is in The Big Push. On a side note. if you check out Jenny's Tale or Screech's Tale Do the whole extended set because it is a trilogy with Violet's Tale and Violet's Tale needs to be heard last.

Great reaction. I only recently learned about Ren and have gone down this rabbit hole ever since. Many of the subjects, experiences, and emotions expressed in his songs touch me on a very personal level because I can relate to and identify with many of his struggles. A little background on Ren that I gathered from the internet. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue. His illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours a day. Ren was initially diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It would take seven years before he was finally correctly diagnosed with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and brain damage. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. He is currently in Canada for more treatments. Ren is an incredible and unique artist; he plays multiple instruments, has great vocal ability, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. From what I read, his videos are generally shot live, all in one take by his friend. I recommend you check out some of his other work. The trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" is haunting and has an unexpected ending; WATCH THEM IN THE STATED ORDER, as this is the flow of the storyline or just watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full)” which includes “Violet’s Tale at the end. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. I would watch the official live music video. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation. As a solo act, Ren performs a range of genres, much of it hip-hop/rap influenced, as well as guitar-based ballads. His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) and any of his performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren has impressive vocal and instrumental skills. He is one-of-a-kind and appears mature beyond his years. Ren just released his latest single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next 3-6 months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren."

my connection to this song is only the similarity of struggle,, i'm undiagnosed autistic and have struggled with being a bit weird my whole life i had to start my own business because i had problems holding a job with sleep disorders and high ethics.. but managed to stay in business the last 40 years without needing to advertise or even carry a card, i run a lawn and tree service and do all phases of construction and kind of an inventor on the side after six years of development i figured out a disaster response product that could help millions worldwide .. then my insurance agent forgot to post a payment back in 2020 and the state took everything i worked the last 40 years for away .. stuck at home like a prisoner i came online and saw people helping others so i started making videos explaining hat i was. trying to do to get help and found out if the platform your uploading to doesn't promote you your just talking to your phone, and then i see stuff like this and get jealous because i will never write a song that gets peoples attn like this. so my chances are fading. and it's scary as hell to think of all that could be, but it may all be lost because one person forgot to hit enter on there keyboard..

He fought 11 years with Lyme disease without knowing it. This is the story of his struggle

Ren was wrongly diagnosed Ren could hardly stand in the shower,his food was being liquidised and in constant pain as well as being medicated alledgely wrongly. Ren had to have 2 lots stem cell treatment. Currently being treated on an intensive course in Canada.Lime disease . I guess years of being misdiagnosed helped him ironically to write his music and this in turn helps others.
