Right? I've been pleasantly blown away by all of the Carpenters reaction videos here, and how much love they, and especially Karen are getting. I was young when they were at the height of their popularity, but as I recall, they did not get nearly the appreciation in their own time as what has grown through the years since Karen's passing.

@@IBGECKO they used to be made fun of as fluff, and syrupy drivel. Only in the last couple decades have they gotten the respect and admiration they deserve from everyone, no matter what type of music people like. They are loved by hard rockers, indie rockers, Punk rockers, And everyone else. Everybody now appreciates how incredibly brilliant they were and how incredible her voice was. There's actually an album that came out in the 90s called if I Were a Carpenter. It's a Carpenter's tribute album by punk rock groups. It's actually good.

I believe her brother arranged most or all of their songs. He doesn't get nearly enough love. Recording engineers loved her because she sounded great regardless of the mic. She could also sing and play vigorously without degrading her vocals. This vocal was a first take, sung while reading for the first time from the lyric written on a napkin.

@NoLimitTwon Btw, Karen and her brother Richard made up the duo, The Carpenters. Richard was very musically talented as well. However, he didn’t not have the great vocals that Karen did (who does? She had an amazing range and flawless voice). You’ll see Richard in the video. He is the blonde haired guy in the foreground (after the camera pans away from Karen then zooms up towards her again). Richard was playing the piano. Btw, Karen also played drums. She and Richard were very, very close. It nearly devastated him when she passed away.

2:49 this is, because their music is a music full of instruments with natural sound transportation and vibration, no plasticsound. It is the whole 70s music. It does not matter if you hear music like from the carpenters, fleetwood mac, Abba - they just sing with great voices, telling always a whole story with their voices, the composition of the track. That is the difference to today. That is why this music touches young peoples heart in 2020 and 2021. They are tired of all this plastic music of todays fancy singers. This music gives you a feeling op peace, hope and love without putting the presenter in middle. It is just music with great singer and a great band. 50 years later people between 17-25 flying by hearing this music. This time need music like this.

If this song doesn't move you emotionally to tears then you are not a human being. Leon Russell and Bonnie Bramlett wrote this song in 1969, it is about a woman who falls for a rock star, has a tryst with him, but then in a bout of delusion awaits his return, apparently falling for it when he said he loved her. "Superstar" was recorded by Karen on her first take, singing the lyrics that had been scribbled by Richard onto a napkin. It took a while for Karen to warm up to the song. "For some reason that tune didn't hit me in the beginning," she recalled in a 1981 interview. "It's the only one. Richard looked at me like I had three heads. He said: 'Are you out of your mind?' When I heard his arrangement of it I fell over, and now it's one of my favorites too." When the Carpenters version became a hit, Bette Midler took some shots at Karen Carpenter, often mocking her wholesome image. Karen claimed the jokes didn't bother her; after her death, Midler apologized in Redbook magazine, saying she often thinks of Karen. The alternative rock band Sonic Youth covered this in 1994 for the Carpenters tribute album "If I Were A Carpenter" It is a beautiful and powerful version. Karen was also an awesome Drummer.

There are some fantastic female singers but her voice is at another level. Her tone was just so unique. Like people have said one of a kind

She was taken from us way too young. I can only imagine the music that might have been. 😞

An example of a great title song for a not-so-great movie, starring a teenaged Bill Mumy IIRC. I saw it on tv back in the mid-70s only because I already knew the song.

Her brother Richard was at the piano and did all the group’s arrangements. Karen is an amazing drummer!
