I refer to Cornell as like a change machine at the laundromat you put in a 20 and you get all quarters. When he listens to a song he takes it in and dissects it breaks it down and it’s way way more beautiful.

PLEASE react to Cochise by Audioslave. Chris fronts the band (the band is all the members of Rage Against the Machine without Zack, their singer). It will show you the power and control of his voice. I also love Soundgarden's Rusty Cage, Spoonman. But also definitely worth checking out is Nothing Compares to U, written by Prince. I hope to see you two go down the Chris Cornell rabbit hole. I really don't think you'll regret it!

Chris does a great cover using the lyrics of Metallica's song "One", to the music of U2's song "One". He also does covers of John Lennon's "Imagine", Led Zeppelin's "Thank You", Bob Marley's "Redemption Song", The Beatles "A Day in the Life" and Prince's "Nothing Compares to you". All are fire.

This is a cover but Chris is a rock icon fronting 3 bands as lead singer/songwriter. Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave and many solo projects/movie Soundtrack songs. He’s always on lists of best rock vocalists of all time. Check out Sound-garden’s Spoonman, Fell on black days. Audioslaves Like a Stone. Temple of the Dogs Hunger Strike. 🙂

This version always makes me think that this song was written as a personal story of Chris Cornell's.. and he was the one who went through all the pain, the confusion, the worry, the denial.. and that Michael Jackson was the one who did an upbeat pop cover of it. It's a testament to both of them as artists. MJ as a songwriter and CC pulling it apart.. and adding so much soul, vulnerability, and pain.

Hearing Chris sing this song makes me feel like this is an old blues folk song. MJ put his spin on it and made history. But, Chris brought it back to its roots and you feel the pain in the lyrics. I'm probably totally wrong but that's my head cannon and I'm sticking to it.

Check out I am the Highway & Getaway Car. I heard another musician say that when Chris Cornell covered your song it became his song because he could put more emotion into it than even the original performer, that says a ton about the kind of singer Chris was.

Chris had this unique ability to make you feeel what he was singing. His ability to do that was soo strong he could take a pop song like Billie Jean and basically turn it into a song youd believe he was singing about himself or about a relationship he had. Listening to this cover of Billie Jean you BELIEVE what hes saying, its not just some catchy tune where you dont even know what the details of the affair or relationship were.

Chris Cornell did a bunch of covers thats really good. This one is the best one to me. He had a way to make songs his own while still making tribute to the original artist and his voice is magical. I usually dont like covers but Chris Cornell and Aurora Aksnes are two artists that makes it really good.

A terrifying feeling from the same lyrics that Michael Jackson sang (and wrote) only sung slower, and in Chris Cornell style) revealing, for a guy, being accused by a woman, he had danced with,(on the Floor ,in the round) that she is claiming her baby (a son) is his, and that he’s the father. “For forty days and forty nights The law was on her side But who can stand when she's in demand Her schemes and plans 'Cause we danced on the floor in the round” A haunting cover by Cornell. Not too mention his unique voice. And his crossing over a pop dance hit, to a heavier rock n roll audience. Genius!

With Soundgarden Chris did a cover of the Beatles’ Come Together. They also did the Beatles’ Everybody Has Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey. They covered Black Sabbath’s Into The Void, Jimi Hendrix’s Can You See Me, Girl U Want by Devo and Homocidal Suicidal by Budgie, among many others. His first solo song was Seasons on the Singles movie soundtrack.
