He put a lot of passion into it. He said he was a little nervous doing it because he wanted to make sure he repesented the song that respected the original artist who wrote it...being Simon & Garfunkle. I think he made them proud. 😀

He made me very proud! I remember when the song was a hit in the 1960s by S & G I actually hated the song i was very bored with it on just the first line than 50 some odd yrs later I'm watching Conan O'brien and Disturbed comes on and I swear i was Hypnotized on my TV screen! I can honestly say that I love this Rendition and i love David and Disturbed! Now I know every lyric when I saw Disturbed perform this I was literally mesmerized on the song the lyrics and the performance!!! Thank you to Disturbed!!!

You should listen to the original Simon & Garfunkle version. Love both versions. The best way I can compare the two versions is that Simon & Garfunkle's version is full of hope that you'll listen to the warning while Disturbed's is full of rage that you didn't listen.

Yeah, I've explained the song to people in about the same way. Simon & Garfunkel seems to come from desparation or desparate hope. Disturbed's version has so much rage.

This is a cover of a Simon and Garfunkel song from 1964. I'm 63 years old and remember the original song but I think I prefer this cover more. Disturbed is a rock/metal band so this is not their typical sound. If you're interested in more from them I recommend Stricken or Are You Ready.

I am also 63. I still like the Simon and Garfunkel version. For its place in the fabric of time and music it is and always will be a classic. I do however like this version as well and to be totally honest I detest most cover songs and think that music today because of the covers lacks imaginations. This version, however, not only "covers" the original very well with the tempo holding true to the original which carried the somberness of the message but David's voice and presentation carries the message more powerfully. One person said the first was a warning and the second is the anger for not listening. I think they are very right. I don't want to be around for the third if we evolve or exist into the future at the rate the world is falling to the depths of immorality and violence. But both versions are great and should both stand the test of time. Paul Simon has even given his seal of approval to what Disturbed did with "covering" his and Art Garfunkel's original.

I don't think it's necessary to prefer one version over another, at least when it comes to this song. I grew up with the original and love it, but this cover speaks to me more viscerally. I can't even tell you how many times I listened when it first came out.
@Divhreaza
@Divhreaza 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed, not everything is a competition, and it's totally okay to appreciate two different versions of the same thing without having to clarify which is "better" than the other. I also grew up listening to the original by Simon and Garfunkel, and I still love it to this day. But like you, this version grabbed me and didn't let go, and I could tell through his emotions that it really meant something to him. And of course it isn't like the original. What would be the point of playing it if it was just like the original? I remember my drama teacher in high school teaching us that when you're doing a part, WHATEVER part, no matter how big or small, you need to take it and make it your own. Otherwise you're either bland or you're copying someone else. And I think the same goes for music when one person/group is covering a song originally by another. They NEED to take it and make it their own. They need to show the audience what that song means to them, and I think Disturbed did that amazingly, with both how he sang it and the music video that accompanied it. It had a LOT of symbolic imagery in it that added to what they were saying.

Both versions have the same message. The original was at a time of happiness and light hearted days. This version is more aggressive and meant to open your mind to today. I enjoy both versions in the over all stand. Listen to the words from the song and see where we are today. Simon and Garkunkel version is considered a soft version and a warning for today.

Charles D Wilson This song is from the 1960’s and it was not a time of happiness and light. There was an unpopular war, the civil rights movement and all the death and struggles that entailed, and just unrest and dissatisfaction with the status quo. This song was a warning and it was not heeded; now look where we are.

Here is some trivia about Simon & Garfunkel and their version of the song. It was recorded with only Paul on his guitar with Art Garfunkel. This recording was released on their first album in 1964 but the album didn't sell very well and duo went their separate ways. Then unbeknownst to either Paul Simon or Art Garfunkel the record company took that recording and had studio musicians record additional tracks for it and released it as a single. This "new" original version became the hit most people have heard. It was because of this version becoming a hit that the duo started performing and recorded more music together. Another thing, after hearing Disturbed's version they did on Conan O'Brian's show, Paul Simon contacted the band and them it was better than the original.

The lyrics are not only powerful but unique as well. The line 'neath the halo of a streetlamp will never be used in our current time with how simple lyrics are. In my opinion, Sound of Silence and American Pie give strong but unique messages about the how the changes in music will eventually kill the industry. I'm 30 and prefer music from 20's-90's. I can't stand most of today's music.

I'm sitting here smiling cuz I was wondering if you got goosebumps right when you said you did.i could actually see the change in your face as the song went on. At one point you said "Man this is great, this guy's voice" and I responded back to you. You haven't heard the best part yet !!! I knew when his voice got " angrier" and louder it was gonna blow you away !! I'm 60 and also grew up with the original Simon&Garfunkel version. They were pioneers in the folk music era and the first time I heard the Disturbed version I not only had goosebumps it brought me to tears. I don't know why but I do love this guy's voice. A great voice performing a great song that makes me feel the music coursing through my veins always seems to do that to me. The difference between the S&G sound and the Disturbed sound is so incredibly different yet the song has the same power with both. I understand, based on your age not knowing the sound or S&G, but never heard Disturbed ?? Heck I'm a MomMom and even I knew of them and liked them. After this song came out I LOVED them !! I am SO glad I stumbled upon this video tonight and that this cover had the same effect on you as it did me and so many others. ✌💜✌ PS: If you are a fan of Queen (like who isn't) you should check out and listen to the cover of Bohemian Rhapsody by a group called Pentatonix. They are an a Capella group who won a tv competition a few years ago and took off !!! They have a global fan base and do incredible covers plus great originals too !!!

I see you’ve been clued into the fact it’s a cover. And he’s a metal rock singer by trade. Great review, brother! Love your heart and soul honesty. ✌️🇺🇸

Dude, this is the first time I've watched your channel and I only did so because I wanted to see your reaction when you heard this song. As to be expected - it reminded me of the first time I heard it. I'd never heard the S&G version so was caught way off. It's an amazing tune that has an amazing affect on the psyche. I'm a now a new subscriber, keep doing what you're doing; it's great. Merry Christmas, brother.

Took me until my later years to appreciate Simon and Garfunkle's catalog but always liked this song. Disturbed's cover is on-par with the original and is one of my favorite covers (along with Jimi Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower and Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt). It's amazing when an artist puts an entire new spin and gives a song an entirely different vibe to the point where it's almost an entirely new song. It's incredibly difficult to do a cover well and a rare jewel when it happens.

I like your response, it’s genuine. David studied to be a Cantor in the Jewish faith as well as and opera singer. It was said. And Angel once ask God, “should we give David the voice of and angel or a demon.” God answered, “ Yes “. Your on a good path. I think he has reached more people with his voice, in this song then he ever could have from a Synagogue. - Joe Redfeather -

This version is a great cover of a really great song. The original may not be as passionate, but it too is beautiful and well worth a listen.
