Damn, a hurdy gurdy in a metal song is a first for me.

This is the band that brought me over to the metal side of life. Kicked open the door and then set it on fire.

One week ago i got to meet Anna Murphy who was the original female vocalist and hurdy gurdy player of Eluveitie! Great person she is and Very beautiful too! You should also react to older Eluveitie songs in the Future and react to Cellar Darling (Anna's awesome New Band with other ex members of Eluveitie)! Anna can Sing, play the flute, the keyboard and the hurdy gurdy in the same song!

They’re a folk-metal band from Switzerland. The male vocalist is Chriegel The female vocalist is Fabienne. This is their current lineup. Several former members formed another band called Cellar Darling. And yes, in the parts where it looks like they’re both screaming, they are.

This newest album is fantastic. It's the first with Fabienne, the female vocalist, all previous albums are with Anna and run the gamut from heavy to super folky. I heard someone else ask for King - great song. I also suggest Ategnatos.

I'm sure that rebirth reflects the latest iteration of the band. When they began they had two sounds, lyrical folk sound and growling metal. They have since gone more into the metal. This is maybe the third or fourth female singer, the male stays the same "Song of the Mountains" is the first time I heard a hurdy gurdy, blew my mind at the time.

Eluveitie is the first swiss folk-metal band with international succes🇨🇭. And they‘re damn good. I saw them live, a friend of me booked them for one of his shows in switzerland. Crowd went crazy. Check out their song call of the mountains

Eliveitie is so good! Their use of these instruments is amazing. That woman was playing a Hurdy Gurdy. It's a string instrument that uses a crank. Basically you press buttons with one hand and spin the crank with the other. A wheel turns and runs against the strings which causes sound. You need to check out either Thousandfold or Ategnatos (one of their newer songs) both are fantastic.

That said, you have to see Eluveitie - King :)

ViOlin, fief, hurdy gurdy, bagpipes in some songs, as well as a laundry list of other traditional folk instruments. This is why this band kicks ass.

The boxy instrument 'the girl played' is a Hurdy gurdy (late medieval string instrument found across Europe - it is akin to (sounds like) a violin but instead of using a bow to brush the strings, there is a wheel against the strings inside the box, that the player turns with the crank on the side); beside the mentioned 'magic box' they also featured a Violin, Mandolin, Flute, Piccolo, Harp and the more usual Metal instruments (drums and guitars); in other songs they bring out more folk instruments (bagpipes, different flutes and percussions). If you check out more songs by them you'll notice that like Nightwish they have had a few different female vocalists and have a fairly wide range of songs/styles going from almost pure Folk (little metal) to 'almost' Death metal (mainly relating to the male vocalist singing style). Suggestions for future reactions to Eluveitie: - The call of the Mountains and/or Omnos (more melodic/folky songs with previous female singers) - King (a bit heavier = more male singer focused) Cheers!

It features the vocals of Anna Murphy, the previous female singer and its a much cleaner catchy folk song. Less melting your brain holes. Old and new Eluveitie are both great.

"THIS" is called folk (in some cases gothic) metal. This band back in 2016 splited and a new band was founded from 3 x-Eluveitie members. This band is Cellar Darling. They are from Switzerland. The girl playing the hurdy-gurdy (Anna Murphy) is the singer of C.D and she is f@cking good too!. Very dark, melodic, gothic/folk metal. Interesting to give them a chance someday. A winter night when you doesn't have nothing special to do sit with a drink and listen to some Cellar Darling songs. They are apsolutely amazing. Nice Video.

We all know you like female fronted bands. Let's check out Infected Rain. The vocalist, Lena Scissorhands, is quite an interesting person. And yes she is headbanging and she is a model too. Go for Orphan Soul first.

I love how you reacted to this. This is exactly the energy I feel with many Eluveitie songs. Would you consider listening to a little Skalmöld, maybe? In concert with the Icelandic Symphonic Orchestra, or on their own? Skalmöld (& Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands) - Kvaðning or Skalmöld (& Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands) - Miðgarðsormur?

The breakdown at 3:44 or so of the original video (about 6:00 on this reaction video) gives me chills AND goosebumps every time I hear it. The combination of the hurdy gurdy and the screaming (with drums, guitar and bass marking the accents) is just _aural perfection._ Unbelievable. I've heard this song dozens of times, I know it's coming, but it hits me as hard now as it did on my first listen. That said, while this is a great song, Eluveitie's first two albums (Spirit and Slania) are both *transformative and mindblowing.* I got onto the Eluveitie train as soon as I heard Spirit (their official debut, though they had a demo that is earlier in their timeline) in late 2007, and I've never departed. It was just so DIFFERENT to any metal I'd heard up until that point...even different to most existing folk metal. Not only do they use far more instruments than are common, they use them LIVE.* Other folk metal bands either rely on keyboards to replicate the instruments' sound, or play to a backing track (looking at you Turisas)...or both. And a lot of folk metal bands just use the standard metal instruments (plus or minus a keyboard, and very occasionally, a violin, flute or bagpipes, often played by the lead vocalist), playing music INSPIRED by a certain folk tradition, but without many/most of the instruments of that tradition. Eluveitie's embrace of both the compositional and timbral qualities of folk music, adding them to what is otherwise pretty textbook melodic death metal, was absolutely unique at the time they got into the game. This is a band whose innovation and ingenuity have resulted in the very best of what folk metal can be. They saw a niche that hadn't been filled yet and worked their asses off to do it right - the metal world is richer for it. *These guys must make like, NO money from live performances; given how many band members there are (and the economics of touring), they'd be lucky to break even.
