You right Jayvee, it's NOT easy to perform that way. For Mickey Thomas, maybe it is because he's doing so smooth and effortlessly, but man every note and every phrase is pitch perfect, and the topper is the TONE his voice has, it's just soooo nice... I can listen to this song every day.

This is what I like about the 70's and 80's and before that. Singers back then could actually sing. No help from voice digitizing, or auto tune and all the bs. Just real, raw, music.

How did I not know this? My favorite Starship song is of course Sara, because as a little girl (born in '81) I thought that song was written for me and they just misspelled my name 😂. After hearing this song again (I've always loved it as well) I can now recognize it as the same voice from Sara! Thank you for that information, it's always cool to learn pieces of trivia I never knew 😄

Mickey Thomas has an incredible voice! He is one of the rare few who sounds better live than the recorded version. His vocal range is amazing! He still gives me chills like he did in the 1970s as a teen. I love this song! Thank you for sharing! ❤❤❤

its too bad it degenerated to dross like "We Built This City". Mickey's pipes are sooo top shelf, i'd like to have seen him finish up solo, or with a band that could really showcase his talent, which Starship wasn't really doing in the 80s....but you are spot on...when it opens with..."Jane, you say its all over for you and me, girl", one is put on notice. He can command a song.

@@kilgoretrout3966 I saw them in concert when I was in college. The Outfield opened for them. Mickey was fantastic! They did Jane as the last song. They took a bow and began walking off stage. Mickey hopped over some piece of equipment on the floor and fell. He was a trooper! He just hopped up, smiled, straightened up and cooly walked off. lol. Then the audience yelled for an encore and they came back out. He could have come out alone and sang and we would have loved it. I agree with you about Starship at that time, they didn't showcase his talent.

I was 18 when this came out in the UK. It was one of the classic ‘end of the night’ slow dances, with Mickey Thomas’s vocals so spot on that many a couple began their romance to this ballad. It came back into the spotlight when it was used on the brilliant soundtrack of the film Guardians of the galaxy, (starring Chris Pratt) and rediscovered by at least two new generations! The soundtracks to Guardians one and two give new life to some great classics, you should give them a whirl Jay, there are some gems in there. Bless you for helping to keep some kind of normality going in strange times!🥰🥂

Mickey Thomas is one of the most vastly underrated vocalists ever. That may have something to do with his very wobbly choice of material over the years. This great song here may be his signature vocal, and it proves without a doubt that this man had a tremendously soulful voice, but if you really want to hear this man cut loose, if you really want to hear this man slay and kill, check out his vocals on "Silent Night." (with the Elvin Bishop Band) Yes, it's the classic Christmas song, but Mickey turned it into a soulful, foot-stomping, gospel-ized, earth shaking, get-cho-ass-outta-yo-chair-and-start-moving type of song. It's not only his greatest soul-shaking moment, it's one of the greatest soul-shaking moments in the history of music. Look it up here on KZfaq .... and thank me later. lol

Elvin Bishop gained renown as an original member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band in 1964 and went on to star in his own touring band, rocking folks all over the US for 45 years to this day. He is recognized by guitarists as one of the greats and his powerful, tasty, and thoughtful rhythm and solo work here shows why. Check the diminished chord at 5:56. Mickey Thomas' stunning vocals, along with the great band, made this number an instant R&B classic. I saw him do this live at the Aquarius in North Seattle in 1976. You should have been there! Your reactions are great.

I really liked it when my favorite male singer, Rod Stewart, did his own cover version of this Elvin Bishop song.

Mickey Thomas :flawless pitch and diction. Absolute vocal mastery. But the denim jump suit ? Poison ! Hahaha.

That's Mickey Thomas. One of the best male singers. Underrated for sure. He was also killing it in the group Starship!

Mickey Thomas is the lead singer in this video and he is my all time favorite singer. You totally need to check out Starship: Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now (the band he was in the 80s!) This video makes me so happy 😀
