Paul Stanley, the singer of this song, said that writing a hit Disco song was easy. So someone bet him he couldn't do it. 1 hrs later he had written this song, they recorded it and it went to #1 on the Disco Charts in 3 countries and in the top 10 in 14 other countries.

They were smart enough to allow their music to evolve with the crowds, and also realized that it's also important to keep certain things the same.

@@tonyapoindexter2781 By saying "They were smart enough to let their music evolve with the crowds," I suppose you mean Kiss understood that to be a success in the music business, you must play the kinds of music people will actually want to listen to, dance to, & buy. As a musical artist begins widening out into other styles of music, I think the things which should never change are the ingredients which make music _authentic:_ creative originality, love, passion, & sincerity. _Authenticity_ is the key, because that is what the Public responds to Ive been playing electric bass & acoustic guitar for 23 years. 7 piece drums for half as long. So I speak not as a Kiss devotee, but as a 70s child who witnessed the rise of Kiss, Gerry Rafferty, Rita Coolidge, A Taste of Honey, George Benson, KC & the Sunshine Band, the Eagles, Michael Martin Murphey, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Diamond & many others. From the Jazz/ Orchestral world there are also Barry Manilow, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, The Living Strings, Paul Mauriat, Syd Lawrence, Ronnie Verrell, Gene Krupa, & Floyd Cramer. It was the Easy Listening age, & the age of Soft Rock, too. Not just an age of meteoric pop bands

@@magnificentmuttley154I agree, as I too was brought up in a family of musicians, I woke up, slept with the sound of live music being played, practiced and echoing throughout the house. I was aware of the music in it's time, I remember watching the Elvis comeback special as it was being aired on TV. I remember my Uncle stopping by to see if my older brothers were going to this thing called Woodstock 😂. My earliest memories revolve around music, that is why it is key that people expose their children to some type of music early. It is associated to memory recall. A variety aids in personal growth, just as it is important for musicians to learn every genre. It allows the artist to develop a more broad range of style they can form to create and stay fresh. If you only do one thing, one style then that's where you stay, and that is where you will be, on time you will be left behind, you grow stagnant. I think we are in agreement.😊

@@magnificentmuttley154 but this is not always the case.the 2 founding members of X Japan saw Kiss in concert and that inspired them to form a band. When they started they had the punk/Glam Rock style, and were rejected in Japan, but they stayed with it and became the biggest rock band in Japanese history. They didn't change to suit the audience, the audience came around to them.

*@Gerard Cote* 🎯 Excellent point! Sometimes you just gotta grow on people- - - just like mold. Lol! Im not even a Kiss fan. I never liked them. They gave me the creeps when I was a kid, & 44 years later they _STILL_ give me the creeps! Nevertheless, as a musician I respect their ability to change their musical style, to reach a different audience If I understand their history correctly, "Beth" was their first hit (1976-77). Unlike a more dominant hard rock style that would become apparent later, Beth was a number meant to break them into soft rock radio & mix stations. Evidently Gene & Paul thought it more practical to have their first breakthrough hit that way, than to go up against far tougher competition. Everyone from Boston, to Kansas, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Steve Miller, Journey, The Cars, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Foreigner, Gerry Rafferty, Billy Joel, etc They could produce a hit later on to break into what they wanted to be their dominant musical catagory. The important thing was to get started with that first hit. And their plan worked. I dont know the chart rankings, but I was there to witness that Beth was played on both soft rock & on mixed music radio. True to the practice of easy listening radio, once Beth had become a familiar song that first year, we would hear the Living Strings' contemporary orchestra version of Beth. I have that album *EDIT:* Upon further investigation actually "Beth" is Kiss' third career hit, following behind "Nothing to Lose" & "Rock 'n Roll All Nite." Thats 1976, 1974, & 1975, respectively. Furthermore Ive been told by a knowledgeable fan that a DJ played "Beth" by accident on the B side of a 45, & thats how it became a hit. So it wasnt by strategy or design that they found their song accepted into mix stations, soft rock, & eventually easy listening radio

Fellas Kiss (stylized as KIϟϟ) is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973 by Paul Stanley (vocals, rhythm guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals, bass), Ace Frehley (lead guitar, vocals), and Peter Criss (drums, vocals). Known for their face paint and stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid-1970s with shock rock-style live performances, which featured fire-breathing, blood-spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits, and pyrotechnics. The band has gone through several lineup changes, with Stanley and Simmons remaining the only consistent members. The original and best-known lineup consisted of Stanley, Simmons, Frehley, and Criss. Here R the names of the costume makeup, Paul Stanley as Starchild; Gene Simmons as The Demon; Ace Frehley as Space Ace & Peter Criss as Catman. They also perform without their makeup.

Don't forget Alice Cooper, and David Bowie rocked the make up as well at times. Guess you also forgot Twisted Sister. And to be completely honest Kiss stole the Face Painting from Arthur Brown, and his legendary "Corpse Paint" in the 60's. Sensational Alex Harvey Band guitarist Zal Cleminson did the Clown motif Face Paint in the 70's, and in the Punk scene same era was the Skull Face Paint of The Misfits. More in the 80's picked it up Now KISS were the most famous, and the only reason I know this is I am as old as dust, and did record reviews in the mid to 70's to 80's so got most of the new releases. LOL.

True story, the first time I heard this song on the radio I thought it was a black man singing, thought it was a funk/disco act from the mid 70s I had never heard of, had no idea it was KISS 😂😄 .....they painted their faces to make themselves annoymous, yet also stand out against everyone else.. there will only ever be one KISS ! Thanks for a great reaction video, I loved it as much as you all did 🥰😍

Domino and Lick It Up are 2 of their best songs IMO, that hardly ever get mentioned. Hope you eventually react to them. For a beautiful ballad try, Everytime I Look At You, from the unplugged concert.

I'm SO glad you all did KISS!! And even more so that you enjoyed them! They're way more versatile than people think at first glance. A couple other great examples of their diversity are Detroit Rock City, Tears Are Falling, and Beth. Would love to see you all experience those!! Also, I about died laughing when y'all said 'they look like superheros' because they actually DID do a very cheesy film called KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park, where they basically were superheros. It's awful, but kind of in an 'it's so bad, it's good' kinda way. At least to me. Now that would be a fun react lol!!

Great band and they turned KISS into a rock and roll empire like no one else before them, but there are definitely some better songs of theirs you guys should react to. I Love it Loud, Love Gun, Deuce, Detroit Rock City to name a few. You will recognize Strutter from the early Guitar Hero games as well.

This is the point that KISS lost a lot of their fan base. In this song, they went full disco. It turned a lot of their fans off. You guys should check out their songs from 1974 to 1977 - they rocked out big time.

Loved your reaction, been watching your videos lately, for the guy who was talking about Gene Simmons, his thing wasn't drugs or alcohol, but sex! A lot of their songs have to do with sex, also Gene loved comic books and there was even a marvel Kiss comic ,they poured their own real blood into the red ink for the comic!

Oh gosh… they need to watch one of the videos displaying Gene’s obnoxiously long tongue, which has become a rock legend in and of itself.
