The one video "song" where they should be wearing earphones they don't. The stereo panning in this studio mix is fantastic and 1/2 the Psychedelic feel of this song is in the mixing. This was revolutionary in rock music and this band was groundbreaking. They did take a lot of old blues songs and rock them up though sometimes without attribution.

Double neck guitar- one neck has 6 six strings, the other 12. Allows guitarist to switch sounds in the middle of a song instantaneously. Jimmy Page used this for the classic Stairway to Heaven during live shows because he used both a 6-string and 12-string to record parts in the studio.

They took the heart of the deep southern blues and polished it off with serious rock. Led Zeppelin didn't just blazed the British rock road, but they paved it. Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy page (guitar), John Bonham (drums) and John Paul Jones (everything else). Four of the greats in Rock and Roll. each a master of their trade. Their music has stood the test of time and still sounds amazing today.

I feel sorry for the people who have no idea who Steve Marriott was. The guy was like 5'4" but he had a voice that could cause earthquakes. He did this song with Small Faces (titled as You Need Lovin') in 1966 and when Zep came along and covered it three years later, Robert Plant - I hate to say it - basically mimicked Marriott's vocals. Zeppelin's version became more popular though, thanks mainly to Jimmy Page rewriting all the music, and nowadays people have no idea who Marriott was.

Why apologize? Woman are sharper and more intuative than many men and Plant conveys this pure sexual lust wavelength perfectly. This celebrates being wanted by a woman, hence being her Backdoor Man. The part in the middle is psychedelic rock. Orgasmic moaning during the song and he sings "Let me be your back door man" near the end. Not the same connotation as it has today, it's an old blues term meaning a man exiting through the back door before the woman's husband comes home.

"Listen to Led Zeppelin with headphones..." This! Jimmy Page was not only one of the greatest guitarists and hook writers of all time, he was also one of the all-time great producers. The stuff he was doing with the relatively primitive recording equipment they had back then was just astonishing and much of it ahead of its time. PLEASE do yourselves a favor and get some headphones. Several other reactors started without them and the commenters kept bugging them about it until they got on board. True story: I went on a fishing trip with my Dad and his business friends in Northern Minnesota in early 1970. Returning home we all stopped at a small diner, sat in a booth and ordered coffee. It was near midnight. I was in my early 20's and LOVED Led Zeppelin. The diner had a juke box with some old country songs playing. Of course, I had to select "Whole Lotta Love". After a nice country ballad had finished - my song started. There were perhaps another dozen old fisherman in that diner. ALL EYES WENT TO ME when the song began! I sunk down in my chair a bit but I still enjoyed the music. My dad and all the others - not so much. :)

Ever hear of Head Bangers? One of the origin stories of Rock & Roll head banging in originated with Zeppelin: It is possible that the term "headbanger" was coined during Led Zeppelin's first US tour in 1969. During a show at the Boston Tea Party concert venue, audience members in the first row were banging their heads against the stage in rhythm with the music. Furthermore, concert footage of Led Zeppelin performing at the Royal Albert Hall January 9, 1970, on the Led Zeppelin DVD released in 2003, the front row can be seen headbanging throughout the performance.

I was going to say something like this! "Stairway" is perhaps their most iconic song, but "When the Levee Breaks" just knocks me on my rear every time I hear it. And honestly, other songs like "Black Dog" or "Misty Mountain Hop" have that same iconic LZ feeling that "Stairway" does, as far as I'm concerned. Plus there's the crazy melodramatic OTT-ness of "Kashmir" and "Immigrant Song" that are definitely worth doing reactions about.

The "Double Guitar" as you describe it, is a Gibson EDS 1275 Double Neck. The upper neck is a twelve string, the lower neck a six string. This gives the player a wider range of tones. Introduced in 1963 it is still in production, having gone through a few modifications along the way. As well as Jimmy Page, Don Felder of The Eagles, Steve Miller and John McLaughlin of the Mahavishnu Orchestra were also notable users of the twin neck Gibson.

British as well. The British music scene in the late 60s and 70s gave the world some of the best bands ever. Led Zeppelin The who The Rolling stones Cream Deep purple The Beatles. Queen.

There was a lot of mystic around Led Zeppelin in the 70s. Most people heard their albums but other than the cover of their first album, no one knew what they looked like. If not for shows like "The Old Grey Whistle Test", "Top of The Pops" "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" or "Midnight Special", you never got to see the bands live unless you went to their concerts. MTV changed all that and not always for the better. MTV made looks more important than the music.

Led Zeppelin is one of those bands that if they appeared today brand new they would be just as popular.

Led Zeppelin has been and always will be my favorite band EVER!!!! I love their "creepy vibe" as you called it. A few of their songs have that moment

Born the year before, this song playing from the radio on Casey Kasem's Top 20 Countdown is my earliest childhood memory. Best band ever!

I love that there are people still out there that get to listen to this stuff for the first time. So lucky. It's quite funny that as a brit I wod know this tune, even if I was one of those middle of the road type people who scorned heavy metal, and then watched the chart show, Top of the Pops, that Led Zep wouldn't appear on, and listened lovingly to the theme music for the program which of course was A Whole Lotta Love. You can't make it up. My own personal favourite Heavy Rock group from the 70's.

I remember being in college and one of the perpetual "there's too much sex in rock 'n' roll controversies bubbling up. NPR did a story in which this old woman was talking about how it's nothing new adding "When Louis Armstrong sang 'Jelly Roll'" we wasn't talking about no jelly doughnut!" I did a spit take and have never forgotten it.

Some of the old blues tunes are deliciously filthy. Check out Louise Bogan's 'Shave 'Em Dry' (1935) or Lil Johnson's 'Sam the Hot Dog Man' (1936)

I was born in 1971 to parents who were both 20 years old at the time & I remember Zeppelin’s music for as far back as my memory will take me & they were definitely a soundtrack in a way for me during the 70’s…..they were HUGE worldwide & for good reason 😉y’all be safe🖤🥶

The guitar you spotted is called a multi (or double) neck guitar. It is basically 2 types of guitars in one. Unless you have someone standing behind you or have a third arm (lol) only one of the guitars can be played at once. It makes it easier for the musician to switch instruments in a rush while on stage. I hear a good video to see a better example of how it is used is in a video of "Stairway to Heaven." by this same band were the musician switches during the song (which I believe you have already seen).

These guys had the keys to the kingdom in the '70's . They were probably the biggest rock band at that time. They wrote some classics and also were the best cover band to ever perform on planet earth . This is a cover of Willie Dixon's whole lotta love . Much different from the original . They got the Led out !

Willie Dixon's song was called "You Need Love" and he had to sue the band to get credit and paid. I do love Led Zeppelin and think they're arguably the greatest rock band of all time but calling them a cover band instead of frequent thieves is generous.

Rob and Amber, it is a simple song about full on carnality, there is nothing deep about it which makes it such a good song.
