Even though they better music was prior to this - this is from IMO their best tour ever - they toured for 4 years on this show - no opening act but nearly 3 hours of them performing. I saw this tour 20 times - no joke. Every show I could see I went to it. There was nothing like it around - they were untouchable greatness then.

They co-headlined, but GNR played last because Axel was such a diva. Caused a riot in Canada when James got burned on stage by pyro and rushed to the hospital because GNR wouldn't come out until their scheduled time. Was at the Detroit show, left after Metallica cause GNR sounded anemic after the massive sound of the mighty met.

It's about how we put people like them (rock stars/movie stars, celebrities, etc...) on a pedestal and think they have the life, when in reality they are just like us. Sad but true.

Sanitarium (Welcome Home) is similar in structure, but darker than Fade to Black. "One" is another that starts slow and melodic but rips your head off by the end. 2 top tier songs. Enjoy your trip down the rabbit hole! 🤘🤘

We'd all like to think this dark side pushing the impulse to lie and steal is some other being, but bad news: It's you... sad but true. James Hetfield got the idea for the lyric from the 1978 Anthony Hopkins film Magic, about a ventriloquist controlled by his evil puppet.

That's not true in reference to James' drug addiction. James didn't do drugs. Unless of course you want to include alcohol as a drug. And women. Sex addiction.

At the Rose Bowl show I went to, GnR played last. They were co-headliners though. Best concert I've ever been to, other than Pink Floyd's Division Bell tour in 1994.

When I saw them in 92 Guns was the final show - they were an hour late in Oakland. The fans got unruly waiting and tore up the entire A's/Raiders stadium outfield (it was baseball season - the outfield was destroyed). I was there i saw up in the stands and when the fans finally pulled the carpet/tarp they had down over the grass, dirt clod war from hell broke out and pieces of outfield were flying everywhere - from up where I was it looked like sorties of swarming bats everywhere - it was crazy. Metallica was the better band that night - Axle show up drunk and performed about 10 songs they were good - mostly Slash and the drummer stole the show.

That's Jason Newstead on Bass. The secret to headbanging like that is keeping your neck fairly still and using your upper back, which has more and stronger muscles. This is the one Metallica concert I got to see. The was no opening act; just all Metallica all night long. 🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽🔥

same happened to me as a fan - next day I literally couldn't lift my chin; i had to hold my hand under my chin to hold my head up. Jason now says his body has paid the price for all that headbanging - he's physically pretty fkd up now.

Loved this band since the first time I heard of them in 1993. You could be hearing the bass drum, which is worked with foot pedals. Metallica worked their bass drum harder than just about anybody. But when someone attaches live video from a concert to a studio version of a song, they’re combining two performances which were likely played at slightly different speeds.
