She helps us appreciate what we do have. In a totally different genre, the Eagle sing a song called "New York Minute." The lead singer (Don Henley) introduces the song (live 1994) by reminding us to be grateful for what we have. Be careful looking up songs by the Eagles. A lot of covers really mess up their songs, I mean REALLY mess them up BADLY!

You’re so lucky Bruce. Amazing woman who had a hard life and the voice of a soulful songbird. Her contribution to the civil rights movement was profound in her songs. To be young, gifted and Black! If I had a time machine, she wound be someone I would go back in time to see. I found her from the Point of No Return soundtrack. I have about 7 of her CDs.

Thanks for reacting to the incomparable Nina Simone! I discovered her late in my life, but soon enough to be privileged to see her in concert in Boston - I hardly know what to say -- what a talent - and so wasted by racism and prejudice that prevented her in her youth from achieving the fame and accolades she so deserved! I hope you go on to listen to more of her work -- not just as a singer/songwriter, but as an amazing pianist --

The lyrics were familiar to me, but not the artist. So I paused this video, and started singing the lyrics to myself, when I realized I knew this song from the Musical "Hair". It is an incredible song, and Nina is pure soul. Excerpt: "Ain't Got No, I Got Life" is a 1968 single by American singer-songwriter Nina Simone, from her album 'Nuff Said. It is a medley of two songs, "Ain't Got No" and "I Got Life", from the musical Hair, with lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot. The song peaked at number 2 in the UK and at number 1 in the Netherlands.[1] It also charted on the Billboard Hot 100, where it reached number 94.[2] The song helped Simone gain popularity under a new, younger audience, and became a standard in her repertoire.[3]" en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ain%27t_Got_No,_I_Got_Life I absolutely love you twins! Keep 'em coming!

Grew up listening to Nina Simone through my mother. This woman has an amazing playlist. But If there is one song that hits me every time it is Backlash Blues especially the version from the album Songs Of The Poets : Dylan, Harrison & Simone. Man this is a powerful song. Love to see young fellas like yourself appreciating great tunes. Love to see you do this one. Cheers for making me happy

I highly recommend the live version of this song, live at the 1969 music festival in Harlem - Nina Simone totally in the moment- the part where she tells the band, one more, signalling she’s riffing vocally and wants one more and the section where she says ain’t got long to live you can just hear the soul ripping through her vocals - finally check out her playing the piano and singing My baby don’t care for me, live in Montreal, the piano playing is out of this world, you can see she’s clearly riffing and towards the end you see her start to sing again but stop because she ain’t ready- the only 2 times I’ve ever seen a genius at work, riffing totally in the moment- would highly recommend those two performance- Nina Simone- what a legend she was! 👍👍

This song was from the 1960s Broadway musical Hair. But she transforms it--part of her genius in interpretation.

This song is the perfect bait and switch. All she needs is life, and herself, and freedom, which all should be the same thing.
