This is such an iconic song that can represent so many things: someone getting released from slavery, being released from prison, someone getting out of an abusive relationship, someone recovering from a long illness , someone surviving a natural disaster, a young person moving out on their own for the first time. All the things she sings about having the opportunity to enjoy are all things from the natural world, not the manmade world. The part I like the best is ‘ sleep in peace when day is done”. Awesome song!

This is my pregame song I listen while I'm walking onto the court to play 'old' lady' USTA tennis matches. I also wait until the horns come in before I walk onto the court. Perfect swagger music - you can't help but swagger with that 'I'm going to win' confidence. Ideal pregame - song it centers you and let's you recognize the past - but I'm feeling good today. I loved your post. Please don't misinterpret to my own personal trivial sports analogy. Also listen to this song when I feel defeated and need that boost that only this song can give you.

Also one of the finest pianists who ever lived. My idol, I'm trans and named myself after her, didn't have to think about it, she was the only contender. - No higher praise can I give. Ever since I was introduced to her, she has been my favourite. I adore Nina Simone.

This is your first reaction video that I have seen, and I am immediately in love with you. First of all, your reaction to Nina is so spot on and visceral. I get goosebumps and cry every, single time I hear this song. The sheer emotion that she puts into it is spectacular and I always appreciate when someone else feels the same. Second, I think you would really appreciate the documentary made about her called "What Happened, Miss Simone." She was ahead of her time, but at the same time, she couldn't have known that we'd still be dealing with so many of the same problems today.

I first heard of Nina Simone at her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It is so worth watching. From Mary J Blidge, Nina’s brother not allowing them to cut what he had to say about his beloved sister short, Andra Day and then the ALMIGHTY Lauryn Hill. I still watch it over and over again to this day. Watched it because of Lauryn and learned about the woman she paid tribute to. Nina will live on in my world by me introducing her to whoever will listen. And if it’s my playlist on they have no choice. ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼

This was one of my late husband's favorite songs. Yes, Nina was WAY ahead of her time. She saw some sh*t in her life. Rampant racism, civil rights demonstrations, riots in the U.S., civil rights leaders murdered, abusive relationships, gender inequality...and yet she could look past all the chaos and strife in her own life to write such a magnificent song. She was a self taught musician/pianist/composer, a civil rights activist, an ICON. She's a treasure & I'm glad you discovered her on your musical journey. Please check out Nina's song Sinnerman.
