I had this album. All of their albums had Black women in the covers. The Ohio Players? Straight up funk! Check out "Skin Tight", "Love Rollercoaster", "Who'd She Coo?" and more. They also had some AMAZING ballads. Check out these slow jams: "I Want to Be Free" "Honey" "Sweet Sticky Thing" "Heaven Must Be Like This"

The Ohio Players were the only R&B Band, based on what was said on their episode of the "Unsung" series, to be allowed to have complete creative control over their music, without any interference from the record company. So basically , they could record what they wanted. That's why you'll hear a drum solo in the middle of a slow jam like "I wanna be free".

I have to wonder about that being born in the sixties I have a wide variety so to say of music in my system from the 50s 60s 70s and so on decades of sounds. But I think the '70s got such a bad rap because it led into the Disco era which is definitely not appreciated and gets a really bad rap. While I have such a wide spectrum of music it seems like the young people of today are just stuck in their generation like they didn't learn their moms and Dad's generation and then all the generations during their lifetime. I guess we had more backyard barbecues and parties and family reunions where we heard a full scope of music.

I would love to hear you all react to more Ohio players my favorite album of theirs was Honey. "Sweet Sticky Thing" and "Love Rollercoaster" were the jams. Probably more famous than the songs themself was the album cover which won a Grammy for Best cover art. But it was the inside of the album which garnered the most reaction of the model laying out with the honey being poured over her. As a young girl I just thought this was so daring.

This was the hottest banger in my days in the late 70's at the night clubs!!!! 💃 Lol, I wanted to be a firefighter/paramedic & some of my friends would request this song just for me!!!!! Needless to say, I only went as far as an EMT & I worked in the ED/EMS office, I was told I did not meet the stature needed & I wouldn't pass the agility tests, I was too petite back then!!!! There were not many woman firefighters at the time & lots of changes would have to be made for woman to be in the fire houses. If you were with the ambulance company contracted by the city, you bunked at the hospital, if you were a woman, doesn't matter, you bunked with your partner in case of a call. I had applied for an ambulance company 🚑, but I met my husband in 1980 & that was a much better change, still kicking it 42 years later. He did not like the set up with the ambulance bunking with whoever you were assigned to. I also was in speed club at one of our skating rinks 🛼 & they'd play this during the races & you could fly to Ohio Players, Fire !!!! Loved your reaction, Tim & Fred, nice to see Fred, I know you've been busy with barber school!!!! Please do more like this, it brings back a lot of memories!😎👍🏼🧑‍🚒🚒🔥

Sometimes products use these songs from back in the day to sell their products & peeps don’t even know it was a hit from the past. I believe this was their 2nd hit. The 1st was Skin Tight, & after Fire I believe was Rollercoaster. After the Fire album was an album called Honey, with a wild pic inside of a beautiful lady pourin honey on herself…Woa! One of their slightly jazzy joints from that was called, Sweet Sticky Thing. Yeah ya’ll gotta catchup on Ohio Players to have legit r&b funk card, jus sayin. 🤣
