Willie Nelson wrote that song. He was at a bar, drinking with Patsy's husband and when the man heard the song he drove Willie back home with him. He woke up Patsy sang the song and she got the best hit ever.

Patsy is one of the greatest singers to ever live. She had so many great songs, but I'll recommend "Walking After Midnight" and "I Fall to Pieces" next. Patsy died way to young in a plane accident in 1963 at the age of 30. RIP Patsy Cline. Peace

Patsy was what was once called a torch singer. They sang in lounges and dinner clubs. She was so good she did not need backup singers. I have adored her for over 6 decades.

I remember listening to Patsy as a kid I remember hearing on the news she died in a plane crash. She was referred to as the Queen of Country Music. Even if you don't react to it, I recommend you listen to "The Seekers". Judith Durham has a great voice.

Patsy is from Winchester Virginia in the Appalachians/Shenandoah Valley. Most folks from our area are Scottish and English descent. Scot-Irish is also used, but those are the Ulster Scots. There is also a smattering of Palatine German. So my guess is she is a mixture of the above.

Back in the 90's I used to hang out in a hole in the the wall rock and roll bar, this is one of the few country songs that got played regularly. This and The Devil Went Down to Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band.

Patsy was a legend , the greatest female country singer of all time. Sadly she was killed in an airplane crash when she was just 30 years old, at the peak of her career. One of my favorite songs from Pasty besides crazy is Sweet Dreams, just beautiful

I don't consider her solely a country singer just because she sang country music and people feel safer keeping her talent in one category or musical prison cell. She had world class talent and this song style is really blues, or a jazz ballad type thing. Had she lived longer she might have branched out into other genres, and perhaps some country music fans would have screamed and cried "traitor!" while others would have embraced her success. We'll never know. But she was a world class singer.

Patsy was one of the best, but I have to brag a bit on the background vocals by the Jordanaires who sang with everybody. A cousin was in that group. They were a big part of many records back in the day. Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Patsy and so many more.

Scot Irish is actually Ulster Scot. I have been told I was this all my life and have zero Irish. Scots were moved to what is now Northern Ireland and how the name came about. I am of Appalachian descent like Patsy.

I'm a classic rock guy, but you cannot ignore the beauty of Patsy's voice. Absolutely a gift from God. Y'all keep bringing these older songs, & perhaps give us a tad more commentary...take a deeper dive into the lyrics/musicianship etc. Thanks y'all! God bless. [edit: I completely agree with you btw, as a society, our culture is taking steps away from that which was the foundation for our country...away from God's direction. The evidence is on display daily]

Willie said he first called the song "Stupid" but changed his mind. Patsy did not want to sing it because Willie would talk some of the verses instead of sing. Also Willie sang behind the beat, Patsy is right on the beat. Good post. She died way to early.

Record dubbed over the film soundtrack. You get piano, and the Jordanaires, Elvis backup gospel group he used on so many records. Patsy was so much more than just a country singer, she could sing anything. This song was written by an unknown Willie Nelson a the time, who became major country music icon. Here Patsy is really singing the blues like Etta James type stuff. And come on guys, Nationality and style of music you sing has nothing to do with anything. Ever hear of African American contralto opera singer Marian Anderson? How about 2 white guys known as the Righteous Brothers? Janis Joplin, Charley Pride? Elvis? Celine Dion? Johnny Mathis? All have different nationalities and sing different styles of music that was not assigned to their nationality or skin color.

I believe this was a one take it, my understanding is, she didn’t really like this song, but her producer, Owen Bradley, Talked her into it, before him she had a much more rockabilly sound. I think she thought this wasn’t really country, her back up singers, I believe. where are the Jordanaires, Who did most of Elvis Presley back up, Way too many songs to mention, but keep delving into her catalog some amazing music

The Gen Z and Millennials are the derivative generations - not much creativity and originality - I blame the internet and the fact that younger people weren't raised in base reality like earlier generations were. The virtual world / reality is not great for young people being original.

It's not that hard to follow the lyrics to this song. She enunciates every word. There isn't any loud or flashy music to distract or drown her out. Yet you said, "She realizes how nuts dudes are..." She is the one who is "crazy" for loving a man that doesn't love her the same way. How do you miss that?
