I've been a fan of Pink Floyd since I was 11 years old, in 1979, when I received this album on vinyl for Christmas. Like most Floyd albums, 'The Wall' tells a story, with each song being a scene. Once you check out the songs individually, listen to the entire album, from start to finish, in one go. A comfortable place to recline, dim lighting, and maybe something to drink. Just close your eyes, and let the music take you on a roller-coaster.

Pink Floyd's music is in a class of it's own. But they designed their albums to be listened to as an album, not as singles. They hated the radio music industry and the way people had to create short catchy songs for the radio. They created experiences that took whole albums to express. Their live shows went on for hours and they would stretch songs for two or three times longer than most other performers. As it's been mentioned, lights down low, all distractions put away, turn the phones off and listen to the album from beginning to end.

A lot of Pink Floyd's music is very dark, and they often are referring to mental illness in their lyrics. They lost a fundamental band member, Syd Barrett, to schizophrenia. It was a very sad decline in such a young man and they paid homage to his genius in some of their songs. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is another one. 💜💚💛✌️

Syd Barrett permafried his brain from taking too much acid too much as a young man. He suffered for the rest of his life because of it. It happened to me too unfortunately :/ Taking hallucinogens before your brain fully develops at 25 can, if you f up can do permanent damage. It’s real and I feel it every waking moment I’m awake and asleep. I don’t wish it upon anyone. Be careful everybody.

Guys this is from the album "The Wall" which is the story of the life of fictional character "Pink" a rock guitarist. If you really want to get your brain around just how deep and dark it is then you need to do the entire album! (I know that's a really big deal for reaction but it would be very worth it! 😉)

Exactly. You can't analyze the meaning of any individual track from "The Wall" without knowing the context, which can only be gained from having heard the entire album. Actually, I'm still waiting to see _anyone's_ reaction to the track "In The Flesh" (the reprise, not the opening track "In The Flesh?"), especially if they haven't heard the rest of the album. References to people as things like "queers" and "coons" would no doubt throw most people off (especially in this day and age) without realizing it is "Pink's" drug-induced hallucination of him being a fascist dictator.

@@dtaylor77 I know a part of Pink Floyd didn't like the movie. But I don't care. The movie was awesome sauce and there is nothing anyone can say that will change my mind. The imagery in it was terrific. From the vacuum to the bottle being poured out it was spectacular.

And never understanding how a side one and side two to a record has to be played from start to finish. That's why when I taped the entire Wall Album on Chromium Oxide casette tape every track blends into the other track and I'll give up on skipping to the favorite tracks because the inter tracks tell this rock opera story.

"Wish You Were Here", "The Dark Side Of The Moon" & "The Wall" are among the best-selling albums of all time. They have a huge library of music. Pink Floyd is best understood by listening to the entire album from start to finish. Its almost like an opera. One song blends into the next and so on as the story carries on. Remember the song 'Mother'? She helped him build the wall around himself. Then he asks, "did it have to be so high?"

i was lucky enough to have come into awareness in the time rock and roll first took off in America , the Beatles brought it to America although we had a few groups here already but with the Beatles it became a Sunami , i witnessed the birth of all the rock bands and have to say pink was my favorite , almost all their songs are about the common man , his dreams and aspirations vs the establishment who wanted and needed to mold the individual for their purposes , it's about the struggle of the individual vs the state , love to watch younger people rediscovering their music and trying to figure it out for themselves ,they always had a deep personal message interwoven in some kick ass music - we called it head music in the day , carry on the flame of individual liberty , don't let it go out or we're all done .

To me ,the the most powerful line in the song , " Don't help them to bury the light ." Our problem is that there are too many out there who are trying to bury the light . The light of equal rights , equal justice and human dignity . If we stand united , we have a chance of stopping them. We must show them they are their own worst enemy.

On your previous Pink Floyd reaction, I suggested their song Great Gig In The Sky. If you get a chance give it a listen. There is a girl named Clare Torry. She handles the vocals. From the album "The Wall" which is a themed storyline of a Rock star struggling with fame, drugs, childhood development, mental illness, relationships. The theme is about the walls he builds around himself. Semi autobiographical, most songs were written by Pink Floyd member Roger Waters. A follow-up movie was made based around the songs. Other songs like "Mother" and "Comfortably Numb" and "Brick in the Wall" all from this album. Deep stuff ✌️

My thought about this song is that he is talking to himself - asking for help then offering help. The album The Wall is an autobiography of the life of the lead singer/songwriter, Roger Waters. He struggles growing up without his father who was killed in WWII when Roger was very young. He had an overbearing and protective mother who helped him put up the mental 'WALL' around him to protect him but it ultimately causes him to go insane as an adult rock star. I believe you did Comfortably Numb already. At that point in his life he is a grown rock star and has turned to drugs to help him deal with his troubles. Its unbelievable how he and the band made this autobiography into a double album and movie. The songs individually can be hard to understand without the full context of the album. Hope this helps to understand the genius that is Pink Floyd. Peace and thank you for the reaction! ✌🏼✌🏼

Hello Asia & BJ I was at the Pink Floyd show at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium in 1977 (their last show of their ANIMALS tour). During the show in front of 70,000 fans, a rowdy fan in the front row kept setting off firecrackers during an acoustic song that Roger Waters was trying to sing. This so annoyed him that he stopped the show and spit on the rowdy fan. Obviously all hell broke loose in the stadium. This was to be the start of the end for the original lineup of Pink Floyd, though the did collaborate for one last album as the original lineup. This was “The Wall” album is where “Hey You”, “Comfortably Numb” and “Another brick in the wall” are from. Roger Waters has said that he came up with the idea of The Wall following the Montréal show since in retrospect he felt like a fascist for his reaction (the spitting on fan) and the growing alienation he felt with the fans as their shows were being held more and more in large stadiums where commercial interests took precedence on what message they were trying to relay to fans.

Give yourselves a big treat and watch the movie of The Wall. All of these great songs, in context, are even more powerful.

Pink Floyd will become one of your favorite and most respected bands for doing profound and captivating music that has you enter their 'zone' when you listen to their songs. They are unlike any other band and are their own genre. To fully understand this song and what the Wall is all about, at some point set aside some 'us' time and listen to the entire album and then, when you have a chance, watch the movie of the Wall. It is quite a journey listening to many of their albums in their entirety. Also try Echoes, both the studio version first then the 2 part Echoes: Live at Pompeii version to start to come to grips with the magnitude that is their musical output that these guys gave the world, now and for centuries to come. Enjoy! 🎵

Anytime a song from The Wall is played, you need to ask how this adds to the main theme of the album. The Wall protects you from the outside.

If you ever have an opportunity, go see Roger Waters live in concert. Incredible show. Also, watch the concert , The Wall, at the Berlin Wall.

my favorite reactors! Floyd was one of those bands who created albums not songs. Although any one song can be enjoyed on it's own...they were designed to be listened to together. Take an hour or two to experience Animals cover to cover, start to finish. It will be your most epic and meaningful reaction!

Subconscious trying to communicate with conscious, his inner self trying to motivate him to break out of the wall, he doesn't understand how. Relatable much? 💜

Love Pink Floyd! Get on Netflix and see if you can find the movie “The Wall” and it will explain all. The wall is the wall that we build around ourselves as a form of psychological protection. How everything that happens to you is just another brick in the wall.
