From Wiki - This song is said by its writer and singer, Caron Wheeler, to have been written about a near death experience in which she nearly passed on but was sent "back to life" to fulfill the rest of her mission on Earth, saying: "Back to Life" came about from my own pain and I nearly died... I nearly died and literally came back to life and I was mad, because where I had gone in between that was so wonderful... but I basically didn't pass over at that point... I was mad, I was like, "Why do you want me here? However do you want me? What do you need from me?" You know, I was talking to my creator, but it sounds like a party song on the record...

@4:55 Ashley, no. Carol Wheeler is talking to God. She did an interview stating that she was going through a down period in her life and almost died. She did not elaborate on whether this was due to a suicide attempt or some other factor. She stated that she almost had a "beautiful" transition to the after life (her words), but she ended up coming back to life and concluded that it was God intervening on her behalf. She stated that she then prayed to God and told Him that however He wanted her or needed her to be, she will be that way for here on. The name of the interview is called "Carol Wheeler: The Voice of Soul To Soul". The interview is on KZfaq. If you fast forward to the "4:53" marker of that video, she will began to talk about it.

This was a huge mega hit back in 89. Soul II Soul took the music industry by storm. You really had to be there to experience those times. This track was played in many boomin car systems through out many neighborhoods. The bass on this track would hit hard. Back then you constantly heard music being played outside, from DJs playing music outside to brothers carrying radios, although by this time that was on the wayout, or cars with thousand dollar systems playing the hotest songs of the day. It was common to hear a song out in the streets and never see the car that was playing it, thats how loud the systems were back then. And everybody had walkmans. We heard music being played outside dailey. Goodtimes...

this song was so popular that this song had many renditions. checkout "Belly Intro - Soul II Soul Back to Life" its is one of the best movie intros back the the 90s. Half of it is in Acapella then the other half goes into the beat. another version is from funk master flex "Soul II Soul -41 Back to life" ..in that one funk flex takes the best part of the vocals and mixes it. And finally, one you might like is "Back to Life 2001 (feat. Mary J. Blige and Jadakiss)" by Dj Clue....Mary is the only one that could get close to singing Caron Wheelers vocals...this version is So good that you could react to it and like it...good luck ....this was a really good reaction

I'm not kidding and I'm not proud of this, but when this song came out I was knee deep in a coke habit with 2 of my best friends. We'd stay up 2 or sometimes 3 days and night in a row doing blow. This song played 6 to 8 times a day on the radio. My two friends are dead and I've had a massive heart attack and quintuplet bypass surgery. Serious case of heart disease now. Ridiculous. Stupid. But this song is the shit. I also remember Milli Vanilli getting caught not singing their own songs around this time.
