This is such a great comeback of Stromae.. you should check out his other songs, the message is always strong and deep, whereas the music is overall more positive. Check out things like Papaoutai, Santé, quand c'est, Tous les mêmes, Formidable and more! (Carmen, for instance ;))

oh cadz! I'm so glad you reacted to stromae! and it's curious that you don't know him. He is Belgian and had worldwide success with "alors on danse", after his album "racine carrée" was a huge success he was everywhere and had a concert about every two or three days for a few years. (his videos are works of art, formidable, papaoutai, tous les mêmes, carmen (a satire on social networks), cancer, ..) at the time of starting his tour in Africa, he did the anti malaria and .. that was the beginning of the end.Since then he has been living with the side effects of this treatment. Hallucinations, psychic decompensation, he felt like he was losing his mind and still lives with it today. Hence the suicidal thoughts.. i'm more than happy to hear stromae again i missed hum so much!!

He's from belgium but talk french , he made so many deep song like "Quand C'est" (about Cancer), "Santé" (About talking and 'salute' invisible people in society) etc...By the way, his nickname prononce like the reverse of Maestro (Stro Ma Hey) ;) Thanks for your reaction ! Take Care !

Always great to see someone discovering Stromae for the first time. He has plenty of other gems and everything he does, every move he makes, every shot you see is planned to perfection by him and his team. For example this was first performed live during the 20'o clock news in France. Mind you, he is BELGIAN. :)

Yes, he is a genius - the person personally I have been waiting for over the years (old lady of 74) - his voice, his composition, his interpretation ! Racine carrée was the first album of his I bought - I'll be there to buy his latest (apparently 4th March, in France as far as I know). Streaming and all the rest, I don't understand. I subscribe to Spotify, but want to have the album in my hands, like a book !!!

I made comments on the original video explaining that his movements and emotions displayed shift from, what I would interpret from my own experience with depression and suicical thoughts, the two spectrums of thinking about "it". One is quiet, contemplative, internal, while the other is throwing a fist into the air, screaming in a car by yourself , and trying to understand and come to any terms with how the hell you got 'here' in the first place. A great piece I agree. Stay on the bright side - you'll be fine. 🙂👍

a little thing that can't be traduced and is a very great pun : "réfléchir" in french both means "to think" and "to reflect", so when he says "i've been thinking a lot, and that's precisely the problem about you", he talks about the reflection of himself. his image in a mirror is the problem that makes him have suicidal thoughts.

Please checkout all his other songs, especially from his former album. All of them were great in my opinion, and most of the videos (if not all) are cinematic masterpieces. This video was about his mental breakdown in 2017 after using anti malaria medicine.

Thanks for being open minded to explore music which isn't in English! In French the lyrics have even deeper meaning. Stromae is a Belgian artist, born Paul Van Haver, he's more than just a singer but a performance artist who composes and writes his own work. He also puts himself in character role for each song. Stromae was huge in French speaking countries about 9 years ago. Energetic and seemingly permanently on tour. If I remember correctly, while on tour in Africa, (his dad was Rwandan), he suffered serious physical and mental side effects to an anti Malaria drug. He simply disappeared overnight and became a clothing designer and manufacturer instead. Suddenly, he's back with a great new album and a global tour including Wembley May 2023. Can't wait!

This song is just a hit to the gut. I can't get it out of my head since I heard it. Very powerful. Stromae is a very diverse artist. He's got his own style that cannot be describe. He is the real deal. A true, complete artist. I think what sets him apart is the absolute sincerity he's putting out there. He lays down his vulnerability and what makes him question the world without affect or drama. It's just there like a bug to observe. And he does it to a fun, infectious beat. We both know him and we don't. He keeps his inner most thoughts to himself, but shares just enough to make it universal and impossible to ignore. A true joy.

those loud back vocals are representing the thoughts and feeling that he's experiencing. You can see it at 4:41 when he said "il faut bien se changer les idées... pas trop quand même", meaning "we should change our thoughts ... but not too much" , and then boom the loud vocals are back for a second . This man is a true gem!

In fact, Stromae worked very hard many years. He did some several musical concerts. In Africa, he caught the malaria virus which made him very sick. He was already very tired with the musical tours and at that time he started to have a severe depression. His brother thought this could be a side effect of Malaria because in severe malaria, people may be affected by a high level of consciousness disorders. So he told him to check up at the doctor office and, he saved Stromae's life because they found Malaria virus. Malaria caused him a lot of dementia. Later, he came back to sing this song in live on French television, this song is about dementia, suicide and fight against itself. You should know, after the show at french tv, the SOS suicide call number increasingly ''exploded'' and drastically. The proof that his music denounces certain things that are still taboo in our Western society when we are all affected because depression, loneliness, suicide, everyone goes through this hell (l'enfer) someday. Actually, this song expresses this part of his lifestory during which he went into exile for 7 years to fight his inner demons, before returning better, in the way to expose to the world the great problem of this century's most unknown disease. By the way, he's Belgian, not french

i think u cut it a little early and missed the epanadiplose (with the camera back in his eyes and then zoomin out), suggesting at the end of his fight with himself he is just back in his initial suggest (i.e. IMHO the fight is vain, u can't kill these ideas and the loneliness inherent to mankind) Whatev a beautiful song oh btw i'm french and yeah this song is in french, but (sadly for us french people) he ain't french but one of our belgium neighbors :)
