Btw. Renee is an extremely useful track as well. The band led by the sadly missed Mark Hollis were truly amazing and took 80s synth pop to whole new levels. Just so amazing.

Love Mark, a genius (so sad he's gone this soon). Love Talk Talk. One of the most underrated band from the 80-90s. Love those songs, masterpieces. Mark Feltham who played harmonica also played on Steven Wilson solo album To he Bone, hugely recommended to you.

Yes Yes Yes Brandon! Talk Talk are my favourite, less than completely famous/well-known and perhaps the most underappreciated band ever... mark Hollis RIP has a voice and accent like no other, it's like a voice from outer space... maybe heaven?. There is no other band that sounds like them in their composition or use of instruments. "Living in another world" is like an Epic of many chapters like no other and Renee is the underrated standout on "It's My Life" together with "Tomorrow Started".. Just amazing, thank you for reviewing 🙂

Brandon. What a birthday treat for me to wake up to this track. It is my top three of all time. This is 80s perfection and Mark’s passing was such a shame to quote another of his tracks. Your best ever video! Well done and thank you. Should have had a treble platinum award just for this. All the best. Dave✅✅

So glad you're featuring Talk Talk! The many layers of the first song (what an emotional roller coaster! 💖), the lyrical depth of the second + the impeccable production of both (no doubt Alan Parsons would approve 🙂) : I love everything about these two songs. Add to this Mark Hollis' distinct, emotive vocals and there you have it: some of the best music that came out of the 80s. Hope you'll be featuring more from that wonderful band! 🐝

Fantastic Band and Voice of Mark Hollis, so captivating and unsurpassable really. Loved the music since Summer of 82 and recently rediscovered the albums. Living in another World is one of my fave songs by them. I love singing their songs on Karaoke and try to mimic Marks Ethereal tones, very tricky but i admire the talent and miss the man. ❤

So glad to see you delving into Talk Talk. I also think that you would find "Life's What You Make It" enjoyable and prescriptive. The studio version is a must. You can always try live later. My favorite version is the "Fluke Remix" - but that's another story for another time. Or perhaps another world.

Unique voice of Mark Hollis, I discovered Talk talk in the late apart of "it's my life" and also "such a shame" I still like everything in this band, Renée were my favorite here (great fretless bass work before the nice keyboards enter) then later, the further (last) albums are going much more experimental and surprising in a great freedom choices. See "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing stocks"

I didn't know Steve Winwood worked with Talk Talk...go figure. Living In Another World has a bit of 1970s sound (Mr Winwood and the harmonica-pleasnant surprise)mixed with the 1980s production/percussion...works well. Renee--get a whiff of Peter Gabriel mixed with The Police--That will do nicely Talk Talk has me wishing I'd given them a shot back in the day...

I also discovered that Steve Winwood were featured in the harmonica solo here, so fun! Be sure you also listen to Steve Winwood solo carrer, it's also released from the 80's and is certainly worth it, very nice keyboards on "Arc of the diver" "Talking back to the night" and "Back to the high life" are excellent albums to discover.

Great songs you were choosing here. Renée always was my fav Talk Talk song. Such a Shame is another great one. If you want to experience their experimental minimal post-art-rock side you should listen to Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock albums, but they are not that easy to access to the casual listener.

I saw this band do their very first big gig in London. They only had the one album, their first. They did the whole album and got a standing ovation. The look of surprise on their faces was classic. They did two of the album tracks as an encore as they didn't have anything else. I have their first 3 albums. Yes they were tremendous.

Nice one Brandon. Beautiful stuff. In 'Another World' it seemed to be setting up for Duran Duran's chorus in 'Ordinary World'? Obviously never did but I felt that both tracks needed a big 'switch-up' or chorus to make them 'great.'... Just a bit 'monochrome' in style?

Nice songs! The sound of his voice and style of singing at the beginning of both songs makes me think of the singer from Shearwater. Folks who like Talk Talk might give the Shearwater album titled Rook a listen? I really love it, but it came out in 2008 so you'll have to listen on your own! 😁 For today's recommendation (because I heard Brandon is running out of songs to play? 🤣) . . .these are not related to Talk Talk at all but while eating dinner tonight I was watching my DVD of Carly Simon performing live at Grand Central Station, and while a lot of Carly's music isn't something I'd go out of my way to listen to, two of her songs absolutely move me emotionally EVERY time I hear them: "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" from her self titled 1971 debut album (hits home hard and always brings tears), and "Touched by the Sun" from her 1994 album Letters Never Sent (I always relate to this one with hope and elation as a musician who desires success). These two would be an awesome Retro Reaction episode in my biased opinion! ;-)

@@retroreactions.... 😆 From the Shearwater album Rook I'd suggest "On The Death Of The Waters", "Home Life", "I Was A Cloud", and "The Snow Leopard". The whole album is really great and definitely grew on me quickly. It has moody, mysterious, poetic lyrics that are intimately and passionately sung with lots of acoustic piano, often with a standard rock/indie band (guitars, bass, drums, keyboards) with occasional orchestral and other instruments. Great mixing and engineering too IMHO.
