I'm Irish, (from Dublin) this song breaks my heart every time I hear it 😢❤️❤️❤️ My partner is from Belfast🇮🇪, he has memories of bomb sirens and soldiers on the streets. Beautiful singer and song writer. Those soldiers are real British soldiers.. Footage was filmed just before the cease fire. Violence and hatred begets more violence and hatred.

My family was from Belfast. They left. Actually they first lived in Country Cork but were Protestant and moved to the North. Eventually they moved to England and finally Canada. I am first generation Canadian but I grew up hearing about the troubles, although I was majorly confused as to why Catholics were fighting against Protestants (and vice versa.) Took a bit of reading to see it more as a response to severe oppression going back not only since 1917 or so but even before that. Complicated subject. This song also breaks my heart. ♡

Lol so many People doing reactions on this song dont know what its about. I love watching the reactions. I'm English and the conflict for us is only ever seen on our televisions. My heart goes out to all the people in this basically civil war between two political and religious beliefs. She was letting us know this pain with her music and this song. If you ever watch Derry girls you will see the cranberries played many times because of how it fits into the time period and although its a comedy at heart its also a great depiction of the sorrow and heartache of the Irish conflict which still is alive to this day. Politics and religion. A big killer historically. Amazing song Amazing singer. But still a sad situation. Everyone in England wants a united Irland. Its not us guys You deserve your independence I dont know what our problem is. As far as religion goes well I dont know what will ever fix that xxx

Yes, this was inspired by the “Troubles” in Northern Ireland, but its meaning can be applied to all wars, and how children are too often the victims. Whether they are brainwashed into being soldiers for a cause that makes no sense or simply killed by playing outside, too many die. It’s an anti war song. Rip Dolores. Your voice is missed.

The song was written about the 2 boys that died in the Warrington bombings that's why she repeats and their bombs twice in the lyrics out of respect for the loss to the families , 2 bombs planted by the IRA in bins exploded killing them as they went shopping for a card for their mother on mothers day. It's also against war of all kinds and yes the troubles in our country of Ireland from 1916 to present day.

*I still have this CD...and I love it. Dolores was in a Hotel when she watched the news of the death of two English boys by an IRA bomb, and she wrote this at that time. The song's inspiration and what she mentions is: the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland and the Irish Republic rejecting the 1921 compromise with Britain during the Irish Civil War. Which was between Irish who were "Pro-Treaty" and those who were "Anti-Treaty." This left Britain only to govern Northern Ireland. The IRA (Irish Republican Army), however, would continue to fight the British (occupying Northern Ireland) to end British rule in Ireland altogether. The IRA used guerrilla warfare tactics, off and on, throughout the 20th century. The 1993 IRA bombing and death of the two boys (3 yrs and 12 yrs) in England happened during the increased fighting after 1969. The year 1969 marks when the IRA stepped up their fighting to get England out of Ireland altogether....they did not succeed.*

I think it’s important that people should always use P for Provisional when mentioning the IRA and the ‘troubles’.It is worth remembering that the PIRA were born from the fight for civil rights and the injustices shown to the Irish/Nationalist community in the north of Ireland. To understand the situation here in Ulster people should look to key flash points, the internment of Irish people from nationalist areas and the murder of protesters on Bloody Sunday in the early 1970s are key factors as to why violence became more violence. It’s equally important to mention British state sponsored terrorism during the period of the troubles, an example would be the Dublin and Monaghan bombings in 1974 which is mentioned in ‘Raised by Wolves’ by U2. Thankfully since the 1998 Peace Agreement there is an assembly in Ulster where all of the community is represented politically and civil rights are now respected.

As I’ve said great anti violence song from a great band.

what is often understood as just a reverb after "Zombie" (eh-eh-eh-eeeheee or however I can put that to written letters) is actually irish "keening", which is a vocal expression of weeping for the dead. it is shocking in the context, but beautifully delivered by Dolores in this song.

The footage of the murals and soldiers were stock footage, not actors. The children playing in rubble were a daily sight. Ireland has been dealing with civil war for a long time, but are experiencing a fragile peace, partly due to this song, written after a bombing killed two children. This song was part rage, part mourning, part plea.
@gearoidgrace6962
@gearoidgrace6962 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a nice sentiment but trust me we have not been dealing with a civil war for a long time and the peace process has totally zero got to do with the song. Many artists have wrote songs about the conflict in parts of Ulster or Northern Ireland as some know it. Did you know that John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote about the conflict in the 1970s? This was because of their Irish roots and it’s worth checking out. Another fine artist Sting from The Police (again he has Irish heritage) also wrote about it.

It is much too complicated to try and explain in a comment, so if you want to know more, i would suggest you do some research for yourself. It is a very powerful and intense song about innocent children being the victims of a conflict. Sadly the lead singer Dolores O'Riordan, who also wrote the song died in 2018. Your reaction is a good, honest reaction to a powerful song. When Dolores wrote it she was angry, furious even and so clearly that came across to you. The song is about ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland and specifically the campaign of terrorism perpetrated by the IRA both in Northern Ireland and in England. This was after a bombing, I think in Warrington which killed a little boy. I assume that’s why there is that boy in the video but I stand to be corrected. It’s an angry, visceral song. Jan 15 2018 Dolores O’Riordan passed away the day she was to re-record this song with a band called Bad Wolves. Well Bad Wolves recorded the song with her band mates and paid tribute to Dolores O’Riordan and donated all proceeds to her 3 kids. Its a harder version with some words changed to bring it to a more modern war time song.. adding the word drones after tanks, bombs, guns. Worth watching.. they also play tribute in the music video to her.

This has to be my all time favourite song, and again , a great reaction 👍🏻A USA rock band called bad Wolves made this version of Zombie in which Dolores was supposed to add the vocals to the recordings, but had died that day.. So in her memory they donated all of the proceedings to her children.. It's defo worth a watch ...RIP Dolores O’Riordan. 🙏

I remember growing up in Northern Ireland and seeing one of my friends get whacked with a machine gun , I witnessed the Omagh Bombing,I'm still scarred by it , there was soldiers everywhere growing up but it was basically normal and going to school some days we would have bomb squads searching us and the bus , this song brings me back to my childhood , I can't help but love my country , Unite Ireland🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

The subject of the song is very sad but she does a very excellent job of conveying her very valid message on the Irish religious conflict after a bombing took the lives of children but her voice is absolutely flawless and her accent makes it great and the song in a whole is perfect what a excellent group and what voice it's a real shame the world lost her ❤

The story behind this tragic incident is heart breaking (1993 - Warrington). As a lot of lovely educated &/or Irish people stated before me in this comment section, the Irish people suffered through several generations of war and voidance that was inherited through several generations. This song was published in the year 1994 to raise awareness and send a message about the (1993 - Warrington) booming by the IRA (Freedom Fighters). The tragedy is that there were two young boys (3yr, 12yr) that left their home on mother's day to buy a card for their mother. Unfortunately, the booming occurred in their vicinity, one child died immediately and the other child was severely wounded and was rushed to the hospital where after a few days he was declared braindead and later his mother was asked to give permission for them to take him off life support on the 5th after the incident. A few weeks after the video clip was released in 1994, the IRA declared a ceasefire after 25 years of conflict. Additionally, the video clip was shot shortly before the ceasefire and those are real local children & real British soldiers.

Through all of the violence, we sacrifice our children's innocence, health and happiness. In my opinion this is what the image means with the children holding hands in a circle with thorns on their heads. Great song!

this song is as relevant today as it was when it was written. While it is based on the troubles in NI, it fits all the countries going through the same violence where children are caught in the crossfire

Some background, my father played golf, and a lot of these people came from other parts of the world(England, Ireland, Italian, and Greece). One morning, my mum was crying at the kitchen table after reading the paper. As a teenager, I didn't know much about world affairs very well. She was upset that some people had lost their lives due to a disagreement in another country, and some children had died. A few months later this song came out, and it was the only few songs my mum didn't complain about me playing it

This song was actually for the victims of an IRA Bombing in the Town of Warrington which is in the North West of England. Their were two Dirty Bombs placed in Bins in the Town Square, on Mother's Day weekend. The Bombing took place on the Saturday, which was always busy , but this time was even busier, as there were many families out shopping for gifts and cards for Mother's Day. The song was a Protest against the actions of the IRA. But it is true that they refer to any war. War or Freedom Fighting always ends up hurting the innocent, and it always takes away some mother's son. I was in that Town Square on that day. Their were many victims . Two unfortunetly dies but many more remained who were permanently maimed and scared for life, not only physically but also emotionally. I personally still have nightmares of that day. I still wake up screaming or crying. And what made this attack even more mindless, was that many families who live in Warrington come from Northern Irish Backgrounds. So in large they were hurting their own.
