Eazy E didn't scout him. But he was signed to Eazy's label, Ruthless record. DOC was popular locally in Dallas and a local DJ in Dallas connected him with Dr Dre. Dre offered him to come out to Cali and DOC did allot of written for NWA (for Eazy n Dre parts). Then dropped his solo album. Had a car wreck, but continued to do allot of writing with Death Row. He's also the guy who introduced Dre to Suge and helped put the Death Row situation together.

He's actually from Texas and he won a rap contest, then got signed by Easy

I am 46 years old this song is MY FAVORITE RAP SONG OF ALL TIMES!!! and I say that NOT because I think it is the "best" it is just MY FAVORITE rap song of all time with the combination of the flow and the beat and the time it came out in my life when I was a teenager, the next closest studio song is probably BlackThought (Conception) and ALLLLSO realize that he did NOT say a singke cuss word or talk about a bitch or money or none of that. I have been saying SINCE I WAS LIKE 16 that I would Put D.o.c. right NEXT to Rakim. And probably even higher because unlike Rakim D.O.C. had MANY STYLES and CADENCES that he could rap AT THE DROP OF A DIME!!!!!

No One Can Do It Better for a rap debut in my opinion is top-10 all-time. Had he not lost his voice, he'd be a legend but DOC has made his mark in rap/hip-hop music as a writer and producer.

I don't know if he was better than Rakim. At this point, I see them both in their GREATNESS!! DOC also became a great ghost writer, and writing coach. MC Breed had a song where he left DOC's "how to rap the song" vocals on it (after the car wreck/ so his voice was overly raspy), in the background, and he rapped over them. I can't remember the name of the song. But yeah DOC was on his way!!

It's not a West Coast to the South. It's the D.O.C. came from the south to the West Coast and was scouted by NWA and is West Coast style in music. DOC is straight-up West Coast like Tupac was from New York east coast but Tupac was straight-up West Coast.

People who say DOC is as good as Rakim is crazy as hell to it's only maybe two or three people in hip hop hop history that can hang with the God MC Rakim and he is not one of them, don't get me wrong the Doc is dope but not on Rakim level!!!
