Anyone (Man or Woman) who has been in that abusive, controlling type of relationship who has turned the tables should listen to this. I have definitely been the one under the thumb, and even though I am not the type to stick around I still get some satisfaction from this Also, it's got a great beat, totally danceable!

In terms of “reactions” you have recorded, this is one of my favorites. Seems you found it shocking! Yours was an excellent view of 2022 reacting to 1966. The video is from their 1981 tour. I went to that with my now wife and remember thinking “this is probably going to be my last chance to see The Stones.” I have been, as it turns out, 15 other times, as recently as 2019. Stones fans (I am a big one) seem to share a quality with the MAGA crowd (which I am in no way a member of): they are quite forgiving of who they are following. People - especially women - for whom this song is nostalgic will happily sing along when they hear this song (even now) and think-not feel-not about the lyrics. Like Bruce Hornsby said, that’s just the way it is.

This song was first released here in the United States on July 02, 1966. Brian Jones played the Marimba on the original recording. This instrument gave it a unique sound. The version we are hearing here is from their live album "Still Life." Released on June 01, 1982. The album came about from a cover song they played on the 1981-82 tour. The song was a cover of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, "Going To A Go Go." It reached the top 30 here in the United States & in The United Kingdom.

Back in high school in the early seventies, our English teachers routinely assigned us to bring in our favorite songs, which would be played on the world's crappiest turn table, and we'd talk about the lyrics-- basically, a 25 or 30 kid reaction video, only no video. Sophomore year, somebody brought in the studio version of THIS. Our trying-hard-to-relate to These Kids Today teacher was about 50, so she was born in... 1922? All eyes were on her as the song ended. "Well," she said. "I am not under Mr. Jagger's thumb. I am... OVER HIS THUMB." Nothing anybody could add to that.

" is a song recorded by the English rock band the Rolling Stones. Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, "Under My Thumb" features a marimba played by Brian Jones. Although it was never released as a single in English-speaking countries, it is one of the band's more popular songs from the period and appears on several best-of compilations, such as . It was included as the fourth track on both the American and United Kingdom versions of the band's 1966 studio album .

Yeah it's quite dark and sadly relevant I think. There was something truthy about their lyrics. Like exposure of dirty realities. I was born in '72 (7/11 actually, I turned 50 today). I'm a total feminist. I sing lots of classic rock but this song I never do. Btw the Who covered this along with The Last Time in the 60s.

A selective read. Not excusing either side of this highly dysfunctional "relationship", he clearly feels, for now at least, turnabout is fair-play. Departure, a clean getaway would be far the healthier option, but maybe for a moment revenge tastes sweet? Nobody's getting away unscathed, better choices could be made. Jagger wrote this in his early 20s. Who has much emotional maturity at that age? Maybe he's looking back with a jaundiced eye on an earlier liaison. Grist for the mill. Still a banger, regardless.

Misogyny rock was definitely a thing. The one song John Lennon regretted writing more than any other during his time in the Beatles was "Run For Your Life," a song about his desire to hunt down and kill a woman if she dared cheat on him.

This is proof that The Rolling Stones aren't a very good Rock Band. They are too intent on posing and prancing around instead of musicianship and replicating the origins of the song. If it wasn't for the tight Rhythm section of Bill Wyman and the late Charlie Watts, the Stones would be one sloppy mess. It just sounds like they don't care. I had the pleasure and the great honour of seeing The Sex Pistols LIVE in 1995 and apart from a low mix on " Did You No Wrong " the sound was amazing and clear. Ironically, there is a Rock Band that really cares about their audience. When my favourite Rock Band plays LIVE they are tight n punchy and sound better than their 33 albums. That's right 33 studio albums.!!!!!! My favourite Rock Band really cares about their millions of dedicated fans. They put a massive smile on my face and make me feel great.

This is proof that you don't know much about Rockstars. It's not all about making amazing music and all. A big part of being a star is to be entertaining. The Rolling Stones said it themselves all the way back in the '60s. How many fans of pop/Rockstars will give a musical analysis of their idols? Almost none. Nobody is asking for the next Beethoven. Rolling Stones fans wanna party and see the band having fun on stage.

No abuse or violent talk like these asshole rappers and punks that sing about killing cops and beating up your women. (kinda like the elevator incident) that is NOT OK
