It is an impressive, dramatic performance by both of them. Of Johnny Hallyday its is said, "He remained relatively unknown in the English-speaking world, where he was dubbed "the biggest rock star you've never heard of" and introduced as the French version of Elvis Presley." He started his career in 1960. He released this particular song in 1976. He was so well respected in France that when he died in 2017, 900,000 people lined the roads as the funeral passed by. There is another version of Lara joining him on part of his tour and singing this song with him, but I prefer this version, as I think the rain that was falling added to the dramatic effect of the song.

Lara is not the "queen of emotions" .... she is the " Empress of emotions" - i have read that she overdoes the emotions but i say (to steal from comedian John Pinette) "nay nay " - she continues to lead audiences along with her in the emotions of the piece. great reaction, Matt, as expected,

Johnny said Lara was the female him, precisely because she emotes as much as he did when she sings. That's why he asked her to do this duet. He said she is one of the few singers that gave him goosebumps.

This was one of three consecutive performances of Johnny Halliday in the "Stade de France", each with 80,000 spectators. He was the biggest rock star, with a career of over 50 years. Lara was just at the start of her being known in France. After the performances, he said to her: "You are just me as a woman". A requiem is a Mass for the repose of the souls of the dead, mainly in Catholic Church. The music took some elements of requiems by classical composers.

Thank you so much Matt! You've made my day! Johnny was a living legend! I;ll leave it to my French Lara Fans to explain what he meant to the France, French Canada and the francophone world. Let me just say this about him. When he passed away in 2017 the whole of France was in mourning. His funeral was televised live for ten s of millions of people in Europe and in Canada. 3 French presidents were in attendance at his funeral including Emmanuel Macron who gave a 12 minutes long farewell address in front of thousands of people at the steps of the church. Johnny received a full state funeral. Paris was at a stand still, for his funeral cortege they shut down the Champs-Elyse and about a million people lined up to say farewell to him. He had a 57 years long carrier from 1960-2017, sold over 100 million albums, recorded over a 1000 songs and wrote a hundred of those songs and co-wrote another100. He was just as iconic as the Eiffel Tower. He was not just a great musician, but also a very humble man outside the spotlight. I still can't believe that he is gone. I know, that I will mourn the loss of him until the day I die!

Definitely not a vanilla performance. Lara’s voice is as powerful as ever. Sexiest arrangement I’ve seen/heard.

I think you’re talking about passion. This performance definitely portrays the passion of the lyrics, they rather die in love than be separated. Lara, the ultimate professional, sings beautifully. Johnny was a very famous French artist. Love his voice. The whole song, choir, orchestra…. what an amazing performance.

The man is Johnny Hallyday, He died in 2017 and was probably one of the greatest and most popular artist we had in France. 60 career years. A truly star.

A requiem is a piece of classical music usually played for a burial ceremony. And the lyrics of this song are related to it since the male protagonist (the sole protagonist in the original version) is on the verge of being killed by the police (more precisely a suicide by cop) after he killed his beloved one in order to keep her love forever.

Hahaha this was AWESOME! I’m so glad that you’re back to Lara Fabian... I was a bit worried that you had moved on from her for a while. I love your Lara reactions! Lol I would love to see you react to her 2001 live performance of “Je t’aime”... it’s (in my opinion) her most emotional performance and I can tell how much you love emotions!! Just to give you a little hint.... at the time, Lara was going through a very rough patch in her life (VERY)... her audience and musical director gives her a gift that helps her turn things around. I hope you choose to react to it!! :)

Oh it’s amazing but Johnny Hallyday it’s one of the most famous singer in France . all the stages of his concerts were always full, he is our national rocker: he unfortunately died in 2017 and was entitled to national tributes and funerals . Merci 🌹🇫🇷

Seems your question was not answered: a requiem is a mass written and sung for the dead (or for someone who just died, to be more accurate). So it is a musical religious piece meant to be performed during a funeral. Many have been written and composed over centuries but four of them stand out and are broadly considered as what best can be done in the field: Mozart’s, Verdi’s, Brahms’ and Fauré’s.

HUGE!!! He still is revered today!!! Lara Fabian, well she is one of a kind and this performance in the Stade de France in Paris is and will stay the most mesmerizing EVER! I'm a romantic too, which is why I don't particularly care for "art" romanticizing abusive men who kill women "for love" then commit suicide by cop. Ah well. But Fabian, Hallyday, the orchestra and choir were great.

A Requiem is usually sung in the Mass for the Dead. they are either speaking about the dead or to the dead. That's my memory of what a requiem is. Question in this one is one of them the dead one? hehehe.. or they may be going towards killing each other here!

The lyrics of this song are so intense. Originally it's not a duet but sang by a man. A story of a man you love so much a woman who didn't love him. So to keep this woman for him and not another person, he killed that woman and the police is there to arrest him.

I don't know who put this particular version together but they skipped the first dramatic two chords of the orchestra. Those two chords set the tone just as much as the gradual increased tension of the orchestra and choir that starts this one. It's too bad, really.

i think johhny holiday was the drummer for the beatles - when jeffrey epstien was the manager ,,,,they got kicked off the jimi hendrix tour .....and then went to america and made sgt dr pepper ....later epstien got arrested and the beatles then split up and now paul mcCafferty is the songwriter for lady gag ga
