I am so glad this your woman and other young people are getting this amazing group! Emillio Castillo manged to put together a group that could play and sing like no other. And they are still doing it 50 years later. They had a knack to select amazing lead singer and musicians when member left the band and the sound of Tower of Power was alway retained. I want multiple generations of music lovers to know this amazing Soul Band.

Stella GETS IT!!! That is the reaction this beautiful song deserves. Rick sang with my band for a while between ToP and his troubles. We played this song a hundred times.. There is no experience like playing this music and hearing that voice on stage with you. RIP Rick...

Rick Stevens was the name of the singer. He had a rough going after this album. He got mixed up with drugs and actually ended up shooting someone and was in prison for murder. He was finally released a few years ago and actually reunited with Tower of Power for a few times. Unfortunately he passed away a couple years ago but he did so as a free man. My heart goes out to you and your country. I truly hope peace will reign.

I always enjoy your reactions but this one is special. Tower of Power was from the Bay Area (East Bay) and was huge in the late 60's & early 70's. Rick Stevens was one of the great soul singers of that period until he went to prison and the band never was the same after that. Great memories...thank you once again. "So Very Hard To Go" by this group is also a great song to react to.

Stella those backup vocals are by the horn section. Everyone in this band was stellar talent. Live they were really something! Loving you loving them.

There were originally 2 lead singers on the their 1st album : East Bay Grease....Rick Stevens , who sung the smoother ballads, and Rufus Miller, who sung the more funkier , upbeat tunes.....

His name is Rick Stevens unfortunately he passed away a few years ago 😢😢 he has a long sad part to his life and the guy who replaced him way back after his incident name is Lenny Williams and he has a great voice that you will love as well.

The band's leader and founder Emilio "Mimi" Castillo used to date this girl who was a few years older than him. Eventually she broke up with him and he was devestated she then said these words "you're still a young man baby don't waste your time".

Actually it's Rick Stevens on lead vocals on this one. Rick did record vocals on their third album, first with Lenny, but when he was sentenced to jail maybe Mimi (band leader) or the label didn't wanna be associated with Rick. When Lenny joined they re recorded the album with Lenny on lead vocals.

That Singer is Lenny Williams! It's not Rick Stevens! I ve seen Tower of Power a hundred times! Lenny Williams is an amazing Soul Singer! You need to check out his solo efforts! He is incredible! Also check out Tower of Power "So very hard to go" also Lenny Williams on lead vocals!
