my father was a racist. his favorite singer back in the day was Charley Pride. I was a kid when he first seen Charley on TV and my dad freaked out lol. 10 years or so later he was listening to the radio and heard hank Wilson singing country music and loved it. Then he seen hank on TV and he was a long haired hippie "which he hated " and was pissed off again. lol just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover . keep up the good reactions.

This came out my senior year in high school! I was in a band that played at allot of area dances and pool parties. We played mostly rock music but this song was soooo popular everybody wanted to hear it. I was the only one with a little grit in my voice so I got elected to sing it. Every time I hear it I think about playing this when I was like 17=18 yrs old. Now I'm a 63 yr old funky white boy and still playin music!

The lead singer (Rob Parissi) is from a town about 25 miles north of where I live. He would come back to the area and occasionally appear on a local radio station and talk about Wild Cherry, growing up in this area, etc. He was friends with the host of the show who unfortunately passed away in 2009. I haven't heard about Rob Parissi since then but hopefully he's still going strong.

Actually as far as I know, he’s doing very well living in Florida. I grew up in Mingo where Rob is from, I’d see him in stores around town occasionally but haven’t seen him in some time. But I do see his posts on Facebook occasionally and he posted a picture of himself and I believe his wife, just a few months ago!!

The song is true. They were a rock band in the time of dance music. They weren’t successful. So, they started playing what the people wanted to hear, and someone actually shouted at the lead singer, “Play that funky music white boy!” I knew he was white because he was the lead character in the song. Made no sense if he was black.

I saw Wild Cherry open up for my favorite band, Average White Band (AWB), a couple of times back in the 70s!!!! Some people think that AWB sang "Play That Funky Music." There's even a KZfaq video attributing "Play That Funky Music" to AWB but it's the studio version of Wild Cherry singing their song!!!! Smdh If you haven't, please check out AWB's hits like, "Schoolboy Crush," "If I Ever Lose This Heaven" (especially the studio version), "Your Love Is A Miracle," "A Love of Your Own," "Queen of My Soul," "Person to Person," "I'm The One," "Got The Love," and "Cloudy"

Hey Jacqueline! I had them check out Bobby back in January. They were DEFINITELY surprised 😳🤣 when he stepped out into the light but their overall reaction wasn't quite there. It was early on when I started working with them & they didn't have a lot of diverse music under their belt yet to really appreciate the voice Bobby brings to the table. If they did that same reaction now -- oh my gosh!! Check it out and give me your thoughts. Always working on feedback for them. You're the best! ❤️🎵 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htuon5eVrcutZ3U.html
