hello sir, on the train everyone has to wear a mask... as a result of Covid in 2020, all Jakarta residents are used to & have a culture of using masks... that's why you get on the train without using a mask. Majority big cities in Indonesia have imposed cashless transaction. Indonesian people usually use debit card, credit card, Mobile Banking apps, or e-wallet. For Transportation in Jakarta especially, we use e-money (card from Bank, you can buy it in Indomaret/Alfamart) or card provided by transportation provider such as you used. You can use it when you ride KRL (Electrified Train), LRT, MRT, BRT, and other payments. Because your card is provided by KAI (Train Company), if you want to top up the balance, you have to do it at the station. It's different with Bank card such as e-money, you can top up the balance at the convenience stores, ATM, Smartphone, as well as at the Bus station

6:30 for the mask thing, i think it's still required for the subway because most of the time you are shoulder to shoulder with other people specially in rush hour. It's not specific for covid but more about contagius diseases in general like flu, etc.

Yeah, even before pandemic I always wearing mask, to prevent some virus at the public place, coz I had seen many times, people after close their mouth coz got cough or sneeze their hand hold the pole in the train 😅

Hello from germany hahah i literally can smell the air in Jakarta through my ipad, because my parents both come fromindonesia but my father came to germany bc of better chances and better university for IT and my mother followed him after she studied done in ondonesia. No banana involved in your dish. 24:39 it's Perkedel, made out of potato batter, shredded meat (sometimes) and some leaves (small amount). Btw, your pronunciation is pretty good. 25:41 Kemangi leave. Don't say Mani, it means a totally different meaning (and you don't want to say it carelessly, trust me).

12:25 They doubled the price, usually that small bottle costs around 3000-5000 😂 It's highly encouraged for tourists to at least speak basic Indonesian so you won't get "scammed" that way. If you asked the sellers with "Berapa harganya?" I can guarantee you that the Aqua price would be normal.

I recommend you to travel from Jakarta to Jogja using the morning train through the south route, because later you will be shown with extraordinary scenery along your journey, because the southern route will continue to be above the mountains, hopefully you can try it 🙏👍

EVERY PRICE IS DIFFER AND CHANGE DUE TO ECONOMIC ISSUES IN THE WORLD DUDE. EVEN IF THEY CHARGE 12,000, I BUY AFTER ALL ITS FOR YOU TO DRINK AND NOT GET DEYHIGHDRATED. IN SYDNEY I PAID 32000 FOR A WATER SO DON'T COMPLAIN.

condiments serve with nasi rendang: the green ones are cassave leaves, the chunky ones are young jack fruit. condiments serve with nasi ulam: beef jerky, fried mashed potato (you're correct, that's potato), and the leaves are lemon basil (we call it kemangi).

12:41 i dont know about aq*a price in Jakarta but here in a town just about 100+km down to the south you can get aq*a for less than half, about 3000 to 4000 rupiah edit : if you prefer nature over city, then you might want to visit Sukabumi. the air is definitely better than Jakarta as the entire town is surrounded by hills and two mountains with one that you can hike to the peak. Also it has one of the longest suspension bridge in Southeast Asia !. Just make sure to make a bid with the locals everytime you do transactions :) Enjoy !

Many Asian countries (especially China) had gone very far in term of moving into cashless society. Convenient to prevent mugging, and eliminate the need to prepare for change. I traveled extensively within Asia, as well as Europe. Also I stayed in the US for 6+ years. So, I can make quite a fair comparison. And I feel like European countries need to catch up in this cashless trend, and not the other way around

green thing is cassava leaf, boiled eat it with home made chili sauce call sambal the green sauce so good. second veggies is jack fruit usually they cook with light coconut milk like curry, very popular at Padang Rest. be careful dont forget bring diarea medication, when you go Indonesia. specially eating street food. very cheap not even $2

So, the leaf (vegetable) at the Nasi Padang are Tapioca leaves (or by the name casava in some countries). It's toxic when raw (just like you cannot take tapioca, or yam, or bamboo shoots raw - has to be cooked to denature the toxins). Tapioca leaves are a staple vege usually eaten with Nasi Padang. They also have a very good green sambal that goes with nasi padang.

Jakarta had some beautiful island with coral reef conservation at thousand islands district, to get the boat you can go to pelabuhan kali adem, but only had one boat trip in the morning as far as i know

Hi Mickey, welcome to Indonesia, uraaaaa :) , btw before you explore Indonesia, you might want to visit Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (Beautiful Mini Indonesia Park), its a park consist all of Indonesia traditional houses, based on all provinces in Indonesia. They also displaying each province culture, like weapons, clothes, etc. Start from there you might want to edit your plan to explore our beloved country, and dont forget to go to Lake Toba in North Sumatra, thats the bigest caldera lake in the world..... cheers ... have fun... be nice ... and respect all local cultures

Hey Mickey. Nowadays many people in Jakarta prioritize cashless payments, especially in public services and commerce, because the digital ecosystem is getting better in this city. In general, maybe the same thing also happens as in other big cities in Southeast Asia. I know this unsuality must be difficult for foreigners, because it is not as flexible as cash payments.

When you enjoying Nasi Padang, they serve with the Jackfruit curry (you thought it was banana flower), it's actually unripe jackfruit.. The green one is Cassava leaves. It tastes a lil bit bitter. So you better to mix it with the soup (jackfruit curry).

@@MickeyStotch sounds about right. there are many jakartanians who can speak english, but there are many many more who can't. usually younger people would be able to speak at least a little english, since it's a required subject in the school systems, but they probably don't hang around on the side of the street in the middle of the day though. they are probably in school or working, or just cooling themselves in air conditioned area. 😁 (disclaimer: no offense to the street vendors.)

Nasi ulam is rice mix with roasted grated coconut, the is fried is shrimp fritter, I love that one. the beef is dendeng like beef jerky. the leaf is lemon basil smell so good.
