There is an interesting story behind "Black Hole". According to Akane, Kanami asked her how fast she could drum. Akane said around 190 bpm. Then Kanami went off and wrote "Black Hole" that peaks at 220 bpm! So Akane goes and writes the drum patterns for the track. She wrote 7, for the band to choose which one. She labelled them: 1. Easy 2. Comfortable 3. Normal 4. Possible if I work hard 5. Tough 6. Painfull 7. Hell Akane said "Of course, the band chose Hell"!

These are great songs, especially back to back. Black hole takes a few listens to allow it to "slow down" and really appreciate. I'm not sure I would call it their hardest song, but sure one of their fastest. I recall the first time I heard it I was like... what just happened, but now it all seems perfect. Also, there is a call out to the fans in Manners that you might have missed... Miku says "Masters and Princesses" towards the end. Thanks for the reaction and keep them coming :).

I think at this point we can be safe by saying that Band Maid is the best rock band period !!!! Maidiacs and casual fans on every continent on the planet will heartily agree with that. They currently define rock and Kanami Tono is a 21st Century Mozart. And all because a wild and crazy pigeon from Kumamoto had a dream and would not give up until she made it come true.

Unseen World should be on every list of the top 20 rock albums of 2021, but I doubt it is found on any of them. It is easily in my top 10. Manners is my favorite song from the album, in an album that is wall to wall fantastic songs. Unseen World is a masterpiece that I hope eventually gets its due.

They unpacked Black Hole at the end of this 2 hour stream concert and I still remember, half of the chat went nuts while the other half was in disbelief. This explosion of energy at the end of this show also hit me like a freight train, or rather how well they pulled it off despite the the already packed 'pre-program'. :) It's still impressive to see it, but for me too, 'Manners' is the winner between these two. For pretty much exactly the reasons you mentioned. And certainly not least because Saiki sings it so beautifully in the lyrics ... 👇🏻🤭 _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. May we take a moment to appreciate that these songs are coming from Kanami’s mind. I know as she brings them to the rest of the members they each get to add their own creativity to the songs, but Kanami’s brilliance is mind-blowing. When I first heard Manners I was so satisfied with the intro of Akane and Misa that if the song ended there I would be happy. Fortunately for all of us it continues on. Manners just oozes “groove” with Misa’s bass lines and Akane’s playing in the pocket, and for the other reasons you mentioned. Black Hole is a whole different musical beast. I would say from a technical stand point it is their most difficult song. I’ve been a professional symphonic musician for over 40 years but I never lost my rock n roll roots. I’ve played with some snobbish musicians who look down on rock music, or any current music, and they say it’s all in 4/4 time and just 3 chords of I - IV - V progression. When I hear that nowadays I just play Black Hole for them. Shuts them up quickly! 😅😅

I heard that "Manners" was a songwriting experiment where they researched and analyzed Western hit songs to identify the elements made those songs hits. It's definitely a winner. In my mind, "Black Hole" combines Punky Speed-Metal with Broadway Musical vocals: definitely an interesting sound.

Manners was my favourite off Unseen World album when it came out, and it's a great song, but other songs grew on me so quickly so much that it's not my favourite anymore. Blackhole on the other hand, was a big grower. The sound fits the lyrics and title perfectly, and Akane's drum work in it is incredible, initially it sounded like some boring blast beats unlike her - then I listened to her drum cam on Band-Maid Prime and absolutely loved it, there was groove to it, how could I forget that is a mystery to me. 😅

whoever said that 6:47 it's either a lier or simply don't know about the entirely of Band-Maid catalogue. the hardest song? absolutely not. but it could be one of the fast pace song by them, not the hardest. The band often throw the hardest part on most of their songs in *the riffs, verses or in the middle of the songs.* the chorus usually the lightest part. these songs below just an example. there's a tons of songs which follows that pattern. slow or fast songs doesn't matter ➡️ *SHAKE THAT* music.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sMCTjceCzNmRp6c.html&si=J4eflH01-uvxmuMj *UNFAIR GAME* music.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rdJ0dqWH2LjNYps.html&si=C_PBF_62YAcQnGmX *CHEMICAL REACTION* music.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/apilgtB6zc6Whqc.html&si=fJsODbeiNnZhpM1e

For me, this is the most fun songs at a Band maid live show. Starting with that spiffy intro by the Assassin and the Gorilla into and through that fantastic bluesy tenor of the song. And us fans love to join Miku in her "ha ha ha ha" and "yeah yeah yeah yeah" and there are usually 500+ people yelling them out. Such fun !!!! I don't recall if I have already commented on you reactions, but I'm a die hard rocker approaching my 77th year who has been following rock since the late 1950's. I've been to a lot of shows and concerts over the years and the only ones that truly compare to Band Maid are The Young Rascals and Blood, Sweat & Tears in NYC in 1967 and The Doors at the Whiskey au Go Go in LA in 1968. And neither of those groups had the kind of outstanding love for their fans that Band Maid has for their fans. I see you have done several reactions to Band Maid, but there are two in particular you might enjoy quite a bit. I know what you think about their musicianship and composition skills, but these two videos will give you a bit of a different look. They are both instrumentals, and Band Maid is just about the only rock groups doing instrumentals, which is a shame. The two are the live official video of "Onset" and the music video of "From Now On". They are both just masterpieces, complex compositions that are played to perfection by Kanami, Miku, MISA and Akane. You will be pleased.

I was surprised by your comment that you were here only for Black Hole. Wave Potter in a video makes that case for considering Manners to be a perfect composition and BAND-MAID’s best song. I especially like how it subtly builds in intensity with each verse. The best part of BLACK HOLE is the vocal call-and-response between SAIKI and KOBATO, beginning just before the subtitles say, “Heart throbbing, but not with joy…” I think when you listen to BLACK HOLE as few more times, your appreciation for it will grow.

I get the feeling Black Hole (and some of the other songs on Unseen World) were a response to their feelings about being confined during the shutdowns. That album did not have any ballads or slow songs; Manners was groovier but that's about as far as it went. They will release a new album in the next few months and there will probably be faster and more progressive songs, but I doubt the album will be as relentlessly manic and frenetic as Unseen World was. But, who knows? Well, _they_ know, but who among _us_ knows?

I agree with you. I like "Manners" more as well, but "Black Hole" shows that they can absolutely kick it when they want. Originally they called this song "Hell" when learning and developing it, because of all the time signatures in it. To me the name "Black Hole" definitely fits that driving, unstoppable rythymn and force. Let me praise you as well for the fact that you enlarge your screen so we can see the performers and minimize your own presence when reacting to the music. I am so tired of looking at these little windows to see the musicians while also being able to count the nose hairs of the reactors. It is the musicians we come for and your reactions which should come at the finish of the song. Your nose hairs are unimportant to the whole thing. Also I love that you turn up the volume while playing the music. Well done sir!!! And great reaction too!!!!!

You may listen and react to anything from their catalog. From same album you may react to Warning, After Life or No God (is a live video from the same concert or Okyuji as these two songs). If you ever get the chance to see them live do it, they are even better in front of a live audience. Done it twice and I don't regret travelling to Tokyo both times to see them, and I'm going back in March. Greetings from Norway 🙂

Thanks for reacting to Band-Maid. Manners is cool and controlled almost classic hardrock, Black Hole is controlled chaos break neck speed metal. These two songs show the span in Band-Maid's songwriting very well. BTW Band-Maid is the masters of mixing styles into their hardrock base, they are influences by anything from jazz, hiphop, metal, rock, pop, punk, and more. Many fans consider Band-Maid their own genre because of the way they write, record and perform their music.

I really enjoyed that during Manners, Akane basically played the same but different fill between each verse. It's the same, but it's pattern shifted each time. I think if it was any other drummer, the fill would sound stilted, but the way Akane plays it, switching it up each time makes it that much fresher. And I still want to see the Ladies play this with an actual horn section behind them. And Akane smiling the entire time during Black Hole. Also taken from an interview with Akane: May 2021 Player Magazine Interview with Akane - This time the last song BLACK HOLE had a great impact. In your previous album, Rinne was awesome, though… Akane: I felt like “Finally this came!” (laughs) - Finally you played this. I wonder what you will do in the future… Akane: I wonder too (laughs). - Was it originally like this in the demo? Akane: Yes. I had to keep kicking (the bass drum) longer, but it had many parts a human can’t play, so I modified it within the range of a human drummer, and it’s still like this. As for the last bass drum pattern, I made seven or eight patterns, and they were like “Names like ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’ are not easy to get, so name them according to your level”, so I actually named them like “Easy, Comfortable, Normal, Possible if I work hard, Tough, Painful, Hell”, and they chose “Hell” (laughs). It’s the phrase named “Hell”. - (laughs) However, didn’t you expect them to definitely choose “Hell”? Akane: Yes, I expected. I was prepared for it. I was sure they wouldn’t choose “Easy”. This shows just how much these Ladies challenge each other.

Oh wow, Killing joke, haven't heard that name in a while, but I love them. Not sure if Kanami (main songwriter/guitarist) has heard of them, but she definitely wades into punk and alternative territory when it suits the mood. There are a lot of prog punk songs on the same album as Black Hole (Unseen World); but if you liked the groove of Manners, you might also want to add Chemical Reaction (also on Unseen World) to your playlist.

Blackhole is one of my favorites. It takes a few listens for all the chaotic elements to sink in, but the way it all weaves together - and at such speed - is phenomenal. Miku isn't just doing backup vocals here, she and Saiki are singing completely different parts and different melodies in and around each other, but yet it all fits. Miku's guitar parts have some deceptively complex rhythm things going on as well (Not to mention Misa and Kanami, too, and Akane's 220bbm blazing speed!). You need to also check out the music video for their song Rinne (Reincarnation) for another challenger for the top position of their "hardest" song.

@@ThePentagenarian Sorry, I wasn't totally clear. I was referring to Killing Joke. Jaz Coleman is an interesting guy, to say the very least and he's made a few trips off the farm, including the time he and Geordie Walker fled to Iceland to await the apocalypse. KJ also had unstable lineups for most of its history. But since they reunited the original lineup they've been making killer music. It's really sad that Geordie passed away recently. B-M is the complete opposite of KJ in all those ways. They're very close friends and, despite their quirky tongue-in-cheek stage personas, they seem to be humble, down to Earth, and very stable people. No egos. Cheers.

I would argue that the majority, aka "most" of their fans do not fall into the description criteria that you have provided. Many are, however, quite vocal of their support. I would imagine it has to do with the complete load of drivel and garbage that we have all been subjected to on the radio over the last few decades. For people that were actually alive when the Beatles appeared from across the pond, I feel that these individuals would actually have the best idea of what they're hearing in comparison. In the '50s and 60s we had the British Invasion. Now in the 2020's, we are experiencing the Asian Invasion. Fresh new music that reinvents standards just like the Brits did. Just something to consider.
