Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at a first time reaction made possible via PATREON with Janis Joplin and her rendition of Me and Bobby McGee, This song has an amazing buildup to awesome instrumentation. But it's Joplin's voice that carries this song through with storytelling abilities and smooth but soulful deliveries. See my full reaction now!

"Another little piece of my heart" LIVE... SHE WAS IMPRESSIVE... (And if you pick the right one - Monterey IIRC - you'll see Mama Cass from The Mamas and the Papas, stunned in the public, although she was orginizing the event, again IIRC...) Edit: I can find only "Ball and Chain" (must see too...) but I can't find "Piece of my heart" in monterey anymore... So go for "Ball and chains"...

I just came across your channel and this is the first video I saw. Loved your reaction man. And I know it's been a year since this video and I don't know if you've done any more Janis since, but if not, you HAVE to do "Cry Baby", or "Summertime". Especially if you love her rasp and storytelling. Other great ones from her are "Mercedes-Benz", "Half-Moon", and "Little Girl Blue." She has so many, it's hard to choose one lol

Great reaction. As far as I know, there are no live performances of Janis singing "Me and Bobby McGee". You should, however, watch her performing other songs lives. Some suggestions. "Ball and Chain" Live at Monterrey Pop Festival "Summertime" and "Work Me Lord" Live in Stockholm 1969 "Little Girl Blue" live on Tom Jones show "Cry Baby" and "Tell Mama" live in Toronto Also, you might like the studio version of "Mercedes Benz". There are so many excellent Janis songs you can't go wrong.

This was written by Kris Kristofferson, actually. The story of how he came to write is is kind of intersting and involves a bit of "office politics" and rumous. Janis plays the acoustic guitar on this track, as well as sings. The rest of the musicians are the legendary Full TIlt Boogie Band. Rick Bell: Piano Brad Campbell: Bass Clark Pierson: Drums John TIll: Guitars Kenny Pearson: Hammond B-3 organ

Welcome to Janis Joplin! You seem to get it!! She recorded this tune not long (weeks) before her death. Sadly there is no live recording of this. She did play acoustic guitar on this but that was a rarity. Much of her material was covers. This was a fairly bland country tune that you’re right - she added her natural soul, bluesy and earlier folksy interpretation to make it her own anthem. Sadly she didn’t live to see its success. Her live performances are mixed due to alcohol, drugs, and exhaustion. Some are spectacular… there sadly aren’t many at all so you need to seek out the best. I would suggest you continue to dig into her studio work before watching any live performances….just my opinion. “Cry Baby” - Pearl album “Piece of My Heart” - Cheap Thrills album “Summertime” - Cheap Thrills album “Maybe” - I Got Dem Ol Kozmic Blues Again Mama! album All are varied, great examples of her singing.
