The song is based on an actual fan that was killed in a car crash going to a KISS concert. If you listen to the original album version the track starts with a guy driving and listening to a different KISS song and ends with the songs of a car crashing. Everyone has songs that that they call “my song” or “this is my jam” that gets a person pumped up. That is what the “hear my song” lyrics are referring to.

There's actually a pretty tragic backstory about this song: This song was originally written about a Kiss fan that was killed in a car accident on his way to a Kiss concert In the version of this song from the original album that this song appeared "Destroyer", you'd hear the sounds of a car revving and at the end of the song, you hear tires screeching and the sounds of crunching metal

When it comes to recording music, new Technology (computer aided) doesn't mean anything. Bands back in the day had to master their instruments so they weren't wasting time and money in the very expensive studio. You couldn't just cut and paste garbage together digitally like they do with so many "Artists". It's 95% the skill of the musicians. Now anyone can record in their bedroom easily and with low cost. While that has allowed some great artists to get exposure, it's also spawned a lot of people with no passion making and releasing music with little thought or effort put into it. When you don't have to actually create music with an instrument, and you can just sample things other people already created to make your own 'music', you aren't going to get good music most of the time. The person making it isn't even bothered enough to learn how to play the instrument. They just cut and paste tracks together on a computer and that is why most new music sounds the same, because it is all cut and paste from a specific pool of existing music and samples.

@@hazepheno925 Yep. Today's music has very little soul. Where are the artists today that want to spend tens of thousands of practice hours to master an instrument? Technology had made people lazy and has sucked the soul out of the music. More image than talent these days.
@russellhamilton2877
@russellhamilton2877 2 жыл бұрын
@@hazepheno925 Very true. I especially hate it when you get musicians who have an ounce of talent still using backing tracks, especially drums, fir their recordings. With today's global reach via the internet and social media, how hard is it to reach out to other musicians (if you don't know any locally or you live in complete isolation somewhere on this planet) and ask them if they would like to contribute to your creation. It would sound more organic and others listening to it would appreciate the fact that you care enough to create something genuine rather than plugging into something video game. If you have the talent then please don't waste it on cheap fillers.

The KISS album Destroyer came out in 1976, I first saw them live on 7/11/76. I remember the date because it was my 18th birthday and the show was on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band as the opener. KISS opened their show with Detroit Rock City, and the place just exploded, one week after the 4th of July 1876, there were still a few fireworks around. Plus KISS brought their own.

When he sings, "I hear my song...", I don't think he means he's hearing his own song and getting off on it. I believe he means he's hearing a favorite song that's playing on the radio. He's singing in the first person, but I believe he's not singing about himself. The singer is referencing an incident. Probably writing by using "you" or "he" instead of "I" didn't work as well. He might have written in "I" for rhyming reasons, or he just wanted to put himself in that person's shoes.

Hard core metal fans generally look down on kiss but these guys rocked and had a lot of feel good up beat rock, not a lot of real message behind it just party and get laid stuff but when it was Peter, Paul, Ace and Gene, these guys rocked out. In 1974, the big bands were Zeppelin, Sabbath, the Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper... American rock bands like Kiss, Aerosmith, Blue Oyster Cult... were struggling to find an audience. But they kept recording & touring America and built a fan base. Finally around '75 - '76, their music broke big commercially on FM radio and opened the gates for other rock bands like Rush, Queen, Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd...

Great reaction, Kiss use to be my favorite band for years and is still very high on my list, also Kiss was my first ever concert in 2004 in Detroit Would like more Kiss Reactions Also this song is from 1976 And they have multiple different sounds because for most of their songs Paul Stanley (the singer in this one and the Rhythm Guitarist) or Gene Simmons(Bassist) are the lead singer, but they do have other songs where Ace Frehley(Lead Guitarist) and Peter Criss(Drummer) are the lead singer as well

Saw them live in Miami last century sitting right in front of them and man it was a great concert. Couldn’t do it now, too old but in my prime, I was sooo lucky to see in concert Kiss, Ted Nugent, Dolby Brothers, The Who, Johnny Winter, Janis Joplin. That’s all I can remember now, but I was again so lucky!

Music class at school: Simon and Garfunkel, Beatles, Cat Steven's. My cousin: Hey, check this out, KISS ALIVE II (1977). Me: I like KISS, hard rock rules. DETROIT ROCK CITY: great song, great guitar solo, great energy,, but sad story though. An awesome live rock and roll show is what made KISS great! BTW: I thought "hear my song" just meant hearing my favorite song.

Great reaction you 2. This is one of my favorite KISS songs. I believe it's about a dude pre-partying and then driving drunk heading to a KISS show that he never gets to because he is killed in a car crash. On the studio version you hear the crash at the end of the song. The ACE solo reminds me of a Clint Eastwood/Spaghetti western and I love it. My DAD bought me Destroyer and 2 other KISS records ("Rock and Roll Over" and "Double Platinum") for my 7th birthday back in 1978. I was also a member of the KISS ARMY back then too. \m/\m/

Loved the video. I thought it was super cool that you were able to point to the solo sounding more simple but just overall nice. Ace Frehley, the original lead guitarist, said that he would never write or play a guitar solo that he couldn't hum. It was about the melody, not the difficulty or skill it took to just "shred". Subsequently, he has some of my favorite guitar solos in history throughout different KISS songs and his own solo performances.

KISS was the first concert I ever went to in 1977 when I was 5 for the Destroyer tour this song is from, and KISS was my last concert in 2000 which was the last tour of the original lineup. Ace Frehley is my hero, and the reason I started learning guitar at age 5.

I bough my first rock album in 1976. It was KISS "Destroyer" and "Detroit Rock City" was on it. Kiss was considered hard rock in the 70s but they were all the rage because they never showed their real faces and of course Gene Simmons was spitting blood on stage. The press and fans were always trying to get them without their makeup but they never could. They eventually let fans see their real faces. One of their biggest hits was "Beth" and Gene Simmons hated it because it wasn't hard rock, but the fans loved it. "I Wanna Rock N Roll All Night" was another hit from the 70s. Later in the 80s they would actually go more pop rock and had some success there too.

Greatest band of all time. Brad asked “Is this their typical sound?” The best part about KISS is they don’t have a “typical” sound. All of their songs are different and each album has a unique sound. That’s why they are my favorite band, with the Beatles being a close second, for the exact same reason. You guys should DEFINITELY check out more KISS songs. God of Thunder, Forever, Hard Luck Woman, I was Made For Loving You, Shandi, Let Me Know, Creatures Of The Night, Naked City, Mr. Speed….SOOOOO many great songs and all of them are different.

Kiss- the only reason I ever got locked up in my life. They quit touring for many years and then in 1996, I was in college, and KISS was having a reunion tour in Cleveland, Ohio and I couldn't get tickets for it. I and some friends went to Gund Arena the day of the show and tried to buy tickets for the concert from a scalper, who turned out to be an undercover cop, and we spent the entire time the concert was going on in a jail cell waiting to get bailed out by our girlfriends. I wasn't even a huge KISS fan.

Just saw them Sep 9 in Irvine CA (outdoor venue). Just before the encore, Paul says, we have to cut it short because a storm is coming. Half way through the first encore song Rock N Roll All Nite, thunder, lightening and pouring rain came down. So they only did the one song for the encore. It was epic!
