@@filipforza8133 It's not actually true, but it's commented on every reaction to this video on KZfaq (not blaming the OP, it gets said enough & people believe it). The last survivor of the Bismarck was named Bernhard Heuer, and he passed away in 2018 (a little over a year before the song & video were released). I have not seen any definitive _proof_ that the actor playing the trawler captain was *not* Heuer's son, but I find it odd that Sabaton would go to all the trouble of finding the relative of a Bismarck survivor & casting him in the video, but never once mention that in interviews, publicity, or even acting credits. It's far more likely that he's just a local actor and/or friend of somebody involved in the production of the music video.

“Lest We Forget”- is Sabaton’s mantra. They are not political but sing about sacrifices, heroics on mostly military history . Sabaton History is their UTube channel and explains the history of a lot of their songs. I do suggest you do the animated STORY videos of Night Witches or my personal favorite No Bullets Fly. These animated story video are a combination of Sabaton music video and Sabaton History. Do make sure you play the entire videos thru especially No Bullets Fly as it is a unbelievable story with a incredible ending. Good luck on your journey with Sabaton but the magic of Sabaton is not how great their music is, learning about the sacrifices of a few so all of us can be free and happy is the greater message! American here. What I LOVE about Sabaton is they do not tell stories from just one side. The show ALL sides. People tend to be selective in what fits their ideals, but, Sabaton does all sides, even the enemy--since, to the enemy, in their minds, they were the ones fighting for right. On all sides, so many were simply boys and girls--literally--trying to defend and fight for what they believed or, in so many case, conscripted and forced to fight for. Kudos for Sabaton not being afraid or biased to show those alternate sides that history books do not.

The Tall-boys were designed to demolish bunkers, bridges, and anything else conventional bombs could not destroy. As a result, they are often referred to as seismic bombs or earthquake bombs. Due to the fact that Tirpitz was armored extremely well, the fact that they had to use them on her demonstrates how much she was capable of.

And even that has historical context - _Bismarck_ laid over for a short time as she was heading out and was asked by a fishing vessel turn broadside on so she had calm waters to bring in her nets. Captain Linderman gladly did so and the fishing boat sat off the _Bismarck_ 's starboard side and the crew were given a portion of the catch as thanks. Later, the trawler returned carrying a member of the German Army whose brother was serving as a Doctor on the ship and they spent an afternoon together

The coordinates are not the location of the wreck, they are the coordinates of the point where the Allied fleet would intercept the Bismark. After a torpedo hit jammed the rudder of the Bismark the ship was stuck going in a giant circle. All efforts to free the rudder failed and the Captain calculated the time and point where the Allied fleet would most likely catch up and choose to engage the hobbled Battleship. He recorded the coordinates in the watch as this would be the closest point he could reliably record to wherever Bismark would most likely end up sunk.

Here's a few historically accurate notes about the music video (specifically) for Bismarck, in as short a form as I can make them: The Bismarck was a modified version of a WW1-era battleship design, the Bayern. The original design would have looked relatively modern in WW2, but it suffered a major problem in the stern, where it would be very easy to disable or cripple the ship's ability to steer if a torpedo hit was sustained in certain parts of the rear. While an immense amount of work went into modernizing the design (such as advanced new fire control systems, better ammunition management, and lessons learned in WW1), the Bismarck retained elements of its predecessor's literal Achilles Heel. The Bismarck's demise was a stroke of bad luck, as it were, when an attacking Fairey Swordfish torpedo bomber (a slow, old, fragile but beloved biplane) happened to land a torpedo in exactly the right spot, completely jamming the ship's rudder in position, and dooming the ship to a gentle turn (from which it could not deviate, meaning it could not dodge incoming attacks or set a course for somewhere safe) until it was intercepted. In the video, this moment is captured during the air raid on the ship, though the underlying reason it's so serious isn't exactly obvious. The turrets on warships tended (and I believe this is still in practice) to be named alphabetically, from bow to stern, A, B, C, D, etc. Bismarck's four main gun turrets were further nicknamed Anton, Bruno, Caesar, and Dora. In the course of its final engagement with the Royal Navy, three of the four turrets were disabled by British fire, leaving only one turret still active; Caesar. As depicted in the video, the last guns seen firing before the ship is abandoned are indeed those of Caesar, one of my favorite details they included. German and British accounts of the ship's sinking differ slightly, and Sabaton graciously leaves the ship's fate a little bit open to speculation, in respect to the stories of sailors and commanders of both sides. Royal Navy accounts attribute the ship's sinking to torpedo hits from a British vessel, while German records say that the ship was intentionally scuttled by executive order. The British torpedo attack is clearly shown in the video here, though any indication of scuttling seems to be absent, leading a casual viewer to believe the torpedoes dealt the killing blow. Considering the ship doesn't immediately sink in Sabaton's presentation, there's clearly some time passing wherein the opened ports could be filling the ship with water. My own impression of the story is that both stories are true in equal part; the British did send a cruiser in for a torpedo attack, which hit the Bismarck, but there's not much reason to doubt the scuttling order was also given and carried out. The account shown here leaves it up to the viewer to decide. As opposed to what we in the US and a number of other nations tend to do in referring to ships colloquially as feminine, the Bismarck (named for Otto von Bismarck) was expressly referred to as 'he' or 'him', as a 'king of the sea'. Sabaton reflects this in their lyrics, showing how much respect they have for the truth; it's such a minor detail, and I imagine only historians would bat an eye if they called the ship 'Queen of the ocean', and said 'she was made to rule the waves,' but the fact that they use such accurate references in their music reflects the passion they have for history, and how fervently they wish for people to remember where mankind has come from, so that we might never perpetrate these kinds of events again. Sabaton actually runs their own history channel (Sabaton History), where they dive into the stories behind many of their songs, both historical background and their own experience in creating the music. If any of the stories in their songs catch your fancy, there might just be a nice, concise Sabaton History episode out there about it, and I would absolutely recommend checking it out.

According to one historian on the internet the reason why the Bismarck is called a he was basically just because one guy said Bismarck should be a he because of the power of the ship, and that not many references as Bismark being a officially a he exists.

there was a research team that sent down a drone with a camera just a few years ago and according to the images they found, which showed how hullplates and the like had blown OUTWARDS at impact with the seabed and not been pushed inward by water pressure. They concluded that Bismarck was indeed scuttled since the ship shouldnt have filled with enough water to equalise the pressure in such a way without valves being opened and intentionally letting water in. The ship was beyond lost already, but the final cause of death was scuttling, not british fire. A minor detail in history perhaps but still one hell of a detail.

Though superficial similar, Bismarck was not a modified version of Bayern - no more than USS Iowa was a modified version of USS Arizona, or HMS Vanguard was a modified version of HMS Warspite. And any ship hit in the same are by a torpedo would have suffered fatal damage. One of Bismarck's opponents, HMS Prince of Wales, suffered even worse from a torpedo hit in the same are just a few weeks later. In a matter of just a few months Taranto, HMS Barham, Bismarck, HMS Prince of Wales and Repulses howed that even the largest and best protected ships were very vulnerable to torpedoes. Bismarck took 6-9 torpedo hits (in addition to 400 hits from battleships and cruisers) - that alone would very likely have sunk any WW2 battleship, except the Yamatos and Bismarcks. But even the Japanese behemoths were basically goners after the first 4-5 torpedo hits.

As a kid as young as 6 I knew about the Bismarck. Mainly because my father had an old board game about the Bismarck made by AH. I had thought it was common knowledge growing up because most of my friends also seemed to know about the ship. Also there was a movie made about it called the Sink the Bismarck 1960 I think, which by the time I was 10 or so I had seen and I think that is how most of my friends knew about it. Later in life I always found it strange how anyone younger did not know about it. I know its a generational thing and that as time passes things that I grew up with become less known. Plus I guess kids growing up in the 70s and 80s were more exposed to the old war movies and stuff.

I am a military historian as well as a proud lover of Sabaton and their music. Just a quick note, when you saw that biplane drop a torpedo that hit Bismark in it's aft, that is what sealed Bismark's fate. It damaged their rudder, jamming it in a turn. This kept the battleship from being able to make it to France, it's intended port. It allowed the British navy to catch and batter the Bismark. It is still debated if the British actually sank the ship, or if the German's scuttled it themselves.

The British Navy engaged her in battle, the HMS King George V and the HMS Rodney engaging her directly, two battleships to one. They pounded the Bismarck until it couldn't fight back anymore, then sent in two cruisers to torpedo her to finish it off. The German sailors may have detonated her scuttling chargess, but considering that only about 179 of her 2,200 crew survived, we have no way of knowing.

As a matter of fact, no that wasn't what sealed her fate. What sealed Bismarck's fate was that Lütjens, under the false assumption of being on the british radar anyway, sent a Radio message. The Royal Navy at the time actually had lost contact with Bismarck. Without the message, Bismarck might've evaded the (main) units of the Royal Navy long enough to make it to harbor.

Bismarck (KMS Bismark) - German battleship, the lead ship of the same class, was still no less famous for its brother-Tirpitz. Bismarck is one of the most legendary ships of the Second world war, as well as being the largest battleship in Europe and one of the largest in the world along with the Japanese Yamato and the American Missouri. Bismarck was launched in 1939 and commissioned in 1940. Bismarck's first (and last) campaign began on may 22, 1941. Then Bismarck, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen (KMS Prinz Eugen) was to break through the Danish Strait into the Atlantic and begin to sink convoys going to Britain. The first German squadron was discovered by the British cruisers Suffolk and Norfolk (HMS Suffolk and HMS Norfolk) on the evening of 23 may. The British battleship Prince of Wales (HMS Prince of Wales) and the battlecruiser hood (HMS Hood) went to intercept Bismarck. During the battle, Bismarck received several hits, at the same time 5 Bismarck's volley hit directly into Hood's artillery cellars. Hood was torn in two by a massive explosion. Of the 1,477 crew members, only 3 survived. Among the dead was the commander of the British squadron Lancelot Ernest Holland. The Prince of Wales tried to continue the battle, but to no avail and soon disappeared in a smoke screen as one of the shells from Bismarck hit the command post of the Prince of Wales, thereby killing half of the officers, by the way the second shell fired from Bismarck hit the Prince of Wales, but did not explode, the British then pushed him into the sea. Bismarck had one of the generators disabled, two fuel tanks were breached, and there was a trim on the bow and a roll on the starboard side. Gunther Lutyens (commander of the German squadron) decided to lead the Bismarck to the French port of Saint-Nazaire for repairs. Prince Eugen was ordered to continue raiding. Bismarck was chased by the entire British fleet in the region. Bismarck's injuries were not very serious, but they caused Bismarck to lose one of his main advantages - speed. The British lost Bismarck several times, but due to the fact that the British intercepted a radio message sent to Bismarck, it was possible to establish the approximate location of the ship. Bismarck left little to the French Brest. Also, when approaching the coast of occupied France, Bismarck could use Luftwaffe aircraft (Luftwaffe - aviation of the Third Reich) to cover. Only compound H, based in Gibraltar, was able to detain Bismarck. This unit included the aircraft carrier Ark Royal (HMS Ark Royal). On the morning of may 26, the Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers flew to the site of the last sighting of the Bismarck. Approximately in the same area was the cruiser Sheffield (HMS Sheffield). The Swordfish pilots mistook Sheffield for Bismarck and torpedoed it. The new magnetic fuses of the torpedoes did not work, and the cruiser remained intact. After this incident, the British changed the magnetic fuses to contact ones. By evening, Sheffield had made visual contact with Bismarck and the Swordfish torpedoes were back in the air. Swadeshi was flying very low and slowly, because of this, the crews of Bismarck simply could not distinguish from the sea. The Suodfishes themselves were biplanes that were obsolete even before they were put into service. The British achieved two or three torpedo hits. One of these hits was fatal for Bismarck - in an attempt to evade the torpedo, Bismarck turned to the left and because of this, the torpedo, instead of hitting the main armored belt, hit the poorly protected aft compartment and tightly jammed the rudders. By morning, orders were given to stop the cars - Bismarck was in the zone of action of German bombers, who did not give Bismarck any help. Bismarck was approached by the British battleships Rodney (HMS Rodney) and King George V (HMS King George V). Bismarck's fire was focused on Rodney, but due to the roll and inability to evade enemy volleys, accuracy was very low. After 44 minutes, all 4 towers of the Bismarck group stopped firing. In order to somehow save some of the surviving crew, after being shot by British ships, captain Ernst Lindemann, who survived the bombing, ordered the engine room to be blown up, the kingstons opened and the ship abandoned. After the fuses were installed, 9 minutes later an explosion was heard from the depths of the wounded Bismarck, which contributed to the final sinking and roll of the battleship on Board. At this point, the cruiser Dosertshire (HMS Dorsetshire), firing 3 torpedoes at the immobilized Bismarck. Bismarck went to the bottom without lowering the battle flag. Of the 2,220 crew, only 114 people were saved - 111 people were saved by the British, and 3 people by the German submarine U-74. Captain Ernst Lindemann himself, as told by the surviving sailors, did not try to make attempts to escape, but on the contrary drove away all the sailors who tried to save him, threatening to shoot (this is so for intimidation), as a result, captain Lindemann heroically went to the bottom with his ship, the last time he was seen at the stern, when he said goodbye to the surviving sailors. By the way after a dive expedition James Cameron, it has been proven that the British torpedo and shells are unable to contribute to the sinking of Bismarck, ie breaking was not detected by torpedoes at the armored belt, but below waterlinie was exactly cut out of the side, this proves that Bismarck scuttled by the Germans themselves when they blew the bottom of the ship and opened the seacocks and not British! Thanks for the great reaction, love it🥰 By the way, I advise you to listen to a new composition from the new album Sabaton - Drednought, this song can be said to be the second version of Bismarck👍

They shot the Bismarck to pieces for nearly 2 hours, even though she couldn't fire back anymore. As you said they were disabled after about 45 minutes. The order to scuttle the Bismarck came from the first officer Hans Oels though. Some sources described Lindemann as that he was pretty absent minded in those last minutes and not being able to make any more significant decisions.

Great job, Aileen! The history nerd in me squeezes out a little tear when hearing the Bismarck referred to as an obscure historical episode... 😥🤘😁 For a really obscure episode that Sabaton put to song, try the Last Stand, it will take you all the way back to 1527... Some really forgotten episodes of WWII are in Coat of Arms, Resist and Bite, Night Witches... A really important point of that war is Defense of Moscow or Ghost Division. If you want to go back to Manowar, they have just out a video for Swords in the Wind, a description of a viking funeral. The essential Iron Maiden historical songs are The trooper, Aces High, Paeschendale and Alexander the Great.

I love the story of the Bismarck. A massive battleship, the largest the world had ever seen, built in flagrant defiance of international law that cut it's teeth by sinking nothing less than the flagship of the British navy, the legendary HMS Hood. Immediately after, every naval radio channel echoed three words on repeat, and every ship in range turned to follow Winston Churchill's one succinct order. "Sink the Bismarck. Sink the Bismarck. Sink the Bismarck." In the end they managed to disable it but the damned ship still wouldn't go down. The British hammered it for nearly an hour until the hull was glowing hot, firing over 2800 shells before a final torpedo attack took it down. Over an hour of naval battle was ended in 15 seconds as the Bismarck finally, FINALLY went down and of the 2,200 men that served aboard the Bismarck only 114 lived to tell of it.

A bit of historical trivia regarding the Bismarck: The Royal navy had an old battle-cruiser (essentially a lighter battleship) called HMS Hood, which was the pride of the royal navy. The royal navy were aware of the threat the Bismarck could pose to British shipping and sent the Hood along with another ship to intercept the Bismarck. During the fight, it is believe a shell from the Bismarck managed to enter the magazine of the Hood and blew the ship up. Britain's pride was severely dented as Britain prided itself on having the strongest navy in the world and now the pride of the navy had been sunk with apparent ease. Due to the outrage, Churchill vowed Britain would throw all of it's resources into destroying the Bismarck. For days afterwards, numerous ships of the navy and various aircraft were ceaselessly tracking the Bismarck. for days the Bismarck was hounded by whatever the British could throw at it but nothing was enough. Eventually the British put together a small fleet of ships and aircraft, which were old WW1 biplanes with torpedoes attached. For hours this combined force relentlessly attacked the Bismarck and pretty much everything Britain had in the area was chucked into the fight with the sole intention that, if the Hood was sunk, the Bismarck would go down with it. Eventually the British sunk the Bismarck and were able to get revenge for the sinking of the Hood. The Bismarck was not sunk purely for the strategic value, it was sunk for revenge and to restore national pride.

At the time, the Bismarck was the highest priority Target of the British Royal Navy, nothing had more priority, that is how dangerous the ship was, after it got hit by a lucky torpedo the rudder was damaged, and it basically went in a circle, it took the combined efforts of the European Royal Navy to sink it, and reportedly they only managed after they fired hundreds of shells at it to the point where some eyewitnesses said the ships armour was glowing red from all the impacts and ricochets, and it takes an ungodly amount of shells for that to happen. They also don't go into detail about it but the Bismarck also sunk the Hood which was the Royal Navy's poster child, the most famous of them all, 3 people survived, out of 1418, that also shows just how dangerous of a ship it was.

Very nice reaction! Welcome to the Sabaton family! Sabaton had a collaboration with Wargaming who also help produce this awesome video. Sabaton wrote this song as a standalone single for Wargaming's World Of Warships and the Bismarck is in the game. Sabaton has collaborated with them before when they themselves released the Primo Victoria tank in the World Of Tanks. I heard the rumors that Steel Commanders is a collaboration again but World of Tanks! And yes when the Atlantic Bismarck was the king of the sea also footnote is that the ship Tirpitz was the twin ship of Bismarck. So there were two of that class of battleships.. But in Pacific Ocean, the Japanese Yamato class was the king of the sea. But it was bigger than Bismarck even though they did not sail in the same sea. I do not know if anyone has told you that Sabaton has its own history channel where you can find out their thoughts and when they actually wrote the songs. And you also get a good story lesson by Indy Neidell in part. I hope to see more of your reactions! Have a good time everyone and take care!

That is what makes them great. They bring the stories to life and make a person want to learn more of what the song is about. They are bringing history to life for a lot of people. A lot of the history they sing about is not taught in mainstream schools. Unless you are really into history and liked to research it. The US school systems only give you a slanted one sided and very biased version. I really enjoy checking out the Sabaton History channel after I listen to the music. The historical accuracy in this video is nothing short of incredible. The battleship Bismarck, along with the other vessels shown in the combat sequences, is depicted using incredibly detailed (and accurate) digital models created by WarGaming for their video game, World of Warships (they were a major partner in the production of this video). If you take the time to read up on Bismarck's short service history, you'll be able to recognize the various events depicted in the video, exactly as they occurred. Even the coordinates inscribed on the captain's compass match exactly with those where Bismarck was eventually found, in 1989.

The real story of Battleship Bismarck has all the elements of a blockbuster movie. One has to imagine the crew listening to their leaders already gloryfying their imminent death in the radio at the eve of Bismarcks last stand. According to survivors, the crew didnt really like that and while they saluted germany before the battle, not one saluted Hitler anymore. And then later on the survivors were taken on board by their former enemies. Bismarcks story has drama, action, tragedy, human errors and heroic deeds on both sides and in the end a moral lesson. It is really, really stunning, a screenwriter couldn't have done it any better than history itself in this case.

Dream on lad. Bismarck's crew actually scuttled a 51000 ton mountain of sinking, flaming scrap metal. All guns silenced, her superstructure devastated, her main armour belt broken in several places along her port side, her command staff obliterated, internally aflame from end to end, her stern and port gunwales already underwater, a thousand of her crew already dead, and further hundreds of her crew had already "gone over the side" and were in the water behind her.... All the scuttling did was to sink her a few minutes earlier than was already happening. In the world of boxing the crew's scuttling efforts are what is known as "throwing in the towel", submission of a boxer when he has been punched senseless by a more powerful opponent, and only a deluded child would say, "the loser wasn't beaten, he gave in before he was annihilated.", when the truth is the loser had his arse ripped off and handed back to him on a plate.

The Bismarck´s automated AA system was based on radar and it was able to keep up the track with the fastest planes of that time but Brittish Navy was still using bi-planes as ,,torpedo bombers" and those were much slower than it was usual for that time, it was pretty much WW1 era bi-plane. I’m just starting to learn about Sabaton, do I’m not really familiar with their catalog. But, them singing about historical events isn’t new. Iron Maiden has been doing songs about history, literature, poetry, war, battles, pop culture for almost their entire career. Some examples: Run to the Hills- about colonialism and mistreatment of native Americans The Trooper- about the Crimean War Rime of the Ancient Mariner- a classic epic poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge The Prisoner- about the British TV series Quest for Fire- based on the movie about early humans seeking fire. Murders in the Rue Morgue- Based on the poem by Edgar Allan Poe Paschendale-based on a WWI battle Where Eagles Dare-based in the movie about a military raid on a castle Seventh Son of a Seventh Son- about the ancient mythology of clairvoyance Flight if Icarus- based on the story in Greek Mythology There are many, many mire examples, but that’s just what comes to mind quickly. Basically, listening to Iron Maiden is an education in arts, history and literature. Glad that Sabaton is following that educational path.

This is why i lve Sabaton. When you hear them play, you can tell theyre passionate about what theyre singing about. The heroes and events in history that should never be forgotten about, even those within evil regimes that still did amazing things. No Bullets Fly being a prime example of that. Franz Stigler was by all means a Nazi, and we all know "Nazi = evil", but this man, this legend not only refused to shoot down an Allied B17 bomber, killing the crew, but escorted them over German airspace and to safety, knowing full well that if anyone ever caught him he would be tried and executed as a German traitor. Sabatons catalogue is full to the brim of incredible stories, and that song in particular is one id love for you to react to, but you MUST do the animated story version, as it pairs the song with a retelling of the story itself. I challenge you to not get emotional by the end of it.

It's a brief shot, but the scene of _Rodney_ closing in flanked by _Norfolk_ and _Dorsetshire_ was fuckin incredible.

HMS Rodney/Nelson, two of the most brutal and effective looking battleships of ANY nation. Also my father was a stoker onboard HMS Dorsetshire during the Bismarck saga.

U know that Sabaton has a history channel, right? They tells the history about the things they sing about. There is a Sabaton history education video about the Bismark and how it became a song

You should listen to one of Paddy and the Rats' songs. They are a hungarian rock band, focusing mostly on this irish / pirate style of music. (The lyrics are in english). I would be happy to see your reaction!

We had a massive fleet. Not in count but quality. Bismarck, Scharnhorst, Tirpitz, Gneisenau. Far stronger than other countries' fleets. Just based on facts like this, it is something we can be proud of
