THE most beautiful song ever. Brings tears to my eyes, even now - after all these years...

All live instruments. I mean, yeah, some electronic components, but those are minimal. Watching them live, there are some songs where Jonsi (singer) uses a cello bow on his guitar, or they use strange percussion instruments, etc. But it's not samples, almost entirely analog. You should definitely check out more. You can go through their albums and see how they grow and change... * Their first album, Von, is mostly ambient and atmospheric. * Then comes Ágætis byrjun, their first US release, which really defines the basis for their post-rock, ethereal sound, which stays constant even as they add other elements. The tracks "Viðrar vel til loftárása," "Viðrar vel til loftárása," and "Starálfur" all being stand out tracks, with the former also having a devastatingly beautiful music video. * Next comes the album that really caused them to blow up in the US, called "( )." The title is an empty set of parentheses, with the listener intended to fill in what it means to them. All of the songs are untitled (though working titles were later released for them) and they whole album is song in a made-up language, called Hopelandic by English speakers (or Vonlenska in Icelandic). The album is much more meditative and cerebral, with the intention they didn't want to impose their interpretations of the music onto the listeners' experiences. All the tracks are good, but Untitled 1 which opens the album and Untitled 7 and Untitled 8 are good ones to pull out if you're not going to listen to the whole thing (which is what you should do, really). * Next is "Takk...," which has a more driving, inquisitive sound, with lots of interesting playing with rhythm, time and expectation. This track is from that album. "Hoppípolla" and "Sæglópur" are other stand outs. * Next comes "Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust," which leans more into their pop sensibilities. A phenomenal album. The video of their live recording of "Ára bátur" at Abbey Road with full orchestra and choir is great, though it is one of the more subdued songs on the album. "Inní mér syngur vitleysingur" and "Festival" are also great. And the album ends with the first track Jonsi sings in English, a lament called "All Alright" that is poetic and haunting. * Next album, "Valtari," moves away from pop and back into empty spaces, and a sparseness to the sound. Again very rhythmic and haunted. "Dauðalogn" and "Valtari" are tracks to check. * Then comes Kveikur, which introduces a gritty, almost industrial feeling to their ambient melodies. "Brennisteinn" was the lead single, that and the title track are both good examples of what this album feels like. *Finally their most recent album, Atta, which is came out a decade after their previous studio album. Feels like it is circling back to a lot of the ambience and atmospheric stuff they started with in the beginning. Meanwhile there is also "Odin's Raven Magic," a live album that is the telling of an epic Icelandic poem. it has full orchestra and some opera vocals along with Jonsi's haunted angel vocals. A really astounding piece, different from a lot of their other music but somehow also fitting perfectly in line. The album was released recently, 2020, but it is a 2002 recording, so it falls between ( ) and Takk... in terms of creation. The one hard thing for a reaction channel is that they really do release albums. You will get a lot just to lose yourself in any of their albums for an hour. Just picking tracks here and there isn't as fulfilling. Definitely worth your time, whether for KZfaq or not...

Before I heard Sigur Ros someone told me "They will make your heart soar". Now, 20 years later, they're still my favorite band. Listen to every song on every album.

15 years for me. This is one the first videos i watched when KZfaq started becoming a thing. Im 29 now and im about to go to Iceland for the first in July and seeing them in person live in September in Raleigh, NC. I lost my brother in Oct. '22. This band makes me feel everything i needed to feel. Anger, guilt, happiness, sad, etc etc. Such beautiful band

Welcome to the world of Sigur Rós❤ Best band in the world🙌 Wow, what a great reaction that was. This is exactly what they do, they bring out so many emotions through their music❤ Im jealous of you being able to discover them for the first time now! You should deffo dive in, their discography is amazing. Their documentaries ‘Heima’ and ‘Inni’ are great too. Their singer ‘Jónsi’ is an amazing artist and has done solo albums as well as film scores✌️ If you are in the US I really recommend you go see them this fall on their orchestral tour. Its very likely their last (and only) orchestral tour. They are unbelievably good live🙌

Yes please deep dive into Sigur Ros. There are many impressive tracks. Its very ethereal, sometimes psychedelic and mostly space rock! The band is from Iceland and their music also reflects their beautiful country and nature. Their live shows are very cinematic and pleasing to the eyes! Thanks a lot Boudz for reacting to this music 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Wonderful reaction. Made me recall my first time hearing Sigur Ros. That rare thing when you realise you’re hearing something entirely new and you have to find a new vocabulary. Soundscapes, melancholic childhood memories, or the music made by sunrise, or melting ice, of the dance of shadows under a tree.

Good point… it sounds natural and analog… it sounds ethereal and expansive and I felt along with you at that crescendo.

I'm so happy you're interested in Sigur Ros, my favourite band - subscribe :c) If you want to see how these musical magicians create all sorts of sounds, I recommend the live recording from the cave - the video *Hrafntinna | Empty Space #4* - it's absolutely amazing. But they have a ton of other cool stuff... There's a lot to discover. I look forward to see more reactions, bye! ✌

Thanks for your reaction. I love Sigur Ros ‘ music. Saw them live on their last European tour and it was transcending, eerie.. I heard them for the first time while watching the movie The life aquatic, where they played their song called Staralfur. It was epic ! They are amazing !

the vocal arrangement reminds me of Lisa Gerrard / Dead Can Dance...one can easily get carried away in the dream like state evoked by such sounds. Icelandic music has an otherworldly quality I love to lose myself in.

Sigur Ros is definitely worth a deep dive, the band's music is beautiful and unlike anything else - try "Svfen-g-englar", Untitled #8, "Hoppipolla" to continue on the journey.
