Ah TY for the react Tommy. This song is special to me. There is a translation, but Sigur Ros has for me never been about the lyrics. I treat Jonsi's voice as another instrument. In fact, he sings sometimes in Volenska or "Hopelandic".. just sounds and made up syllables that sound good.. like scatting or Be-Bop. To me, it is about holding on to your childhood as you get older. Not losing that inner child. Hoppipolla loosely means "hopping or jumping into puddles", like children do when they are young. This song especially is the song I played, my kids grew up listening to it for years up and down the highway. The band you see in this video includes Amiina the string quartet that usually travels with them on concert, and the Horny Brasstards the brass band that accompanies them. I was fortunate enough to see them play live in 2008 in Omaha NE of all places. During a tornado. We were all huddled in the basement of the Orphem, for almost an hour. Nobody left. It was just as magical. No one spoke or moved while they played, it was like we were all entranced. Yes! Sigur Ros was the inspiration for me to visit Iceland for the 1st time in 2013! We went back in July 2014 and bumped into Jonsi and his bf Alex on the main shopping street in Reykjavik! Got a couple pics with him & chatted a bit, he was so nice!!

Beautiful song, beautiful locale in the Ásbyrgi canyon. I would have loved to see this. It's in such a remote location that I was surprised to see that many people attending, so it tells me that Sigur Rós is a beloved band in Iceland.

I'd quite forgotten Sigur Ross. Such a beautiful sound, and the setting was just perfect...music and nature together.

To understand why Sigur Ros plays such music and why it is possible to create such music - you must see the whole Heima film, to see the nature, landscape, people, their relationship. And you must not hurry. Better watch it in parts. In Iceland live less than 400 000 people, but there are a lot of music bands. People use music to get closer together, to express their difficult life and surrounding beauty

Sigur Ros Is by far my favorite band. I listened to their albums since 2000, a gem of a group. maybe its bit too much but i have a tattoo of the cover their album Ágætis Byrjun on my arm. it's a unique case in the history of popular music. thank you.

Not sure if they still hold it any longer, but there used to be a fairly big Metal Festival every Summer in the East of Iceland (a pretty sparsely populated part of the island) that you would really love.

I saw them in Pittsburgh at Stage AE, which is on the Confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers. It was magic.

Love this! Sigur Rós is such a calming band for me. I found them when I was going through a rough patch in life, and I still listen to them whenever I need a little reset. Check out the video for the song Glósóli sometime, I think you might like it. ❤❤

The only thing I have really heard from this band is the song at the end of the movie "Vanilla Sky" which I thought was a Amazing song. They definitely are a talented group.

hahaha, ok, you arrived in iceland. that's good. but i have to say, in my opinion they are so boring. i was on a concert in 2012 and it was the most boring i have ever attended. i cannot stand his voice a full show. yes, this song here is somehow nice. if i'm not mistaken its taken from the heima-documentary which i really like. watch it, it is really lovely! but i can tell you, there are so many better bands in iceland. but anyways, glad that you liked it. the location is ásbyrgi. this horseshoe shaped canyon filled with birch trees is quiet unique. it's said to be a hoofprint of odins eight legged horse sleipnir who touched the ground there.
