My favorite thing about them is I don’t want to know what they’re singing about, because what I imagine they’re singing about is just so amazing I can’t put it into words. As an atheist, I can only imagine this is what angels sing like

They use this song at the end of the movie The life aquatic by Wes Anderson. Totally makes the scene.

Fun fact: Sigur Ros did a cameo on the Game of Thrones tv show, they performed the song 'Rains of Castamere' at Joffreys wedding. :)

Welcome to the world of Sigur Rós. Please react to more of their songs, Glósóli, Hoppípolla, Sæglópur for example. Their documentary ‘Heima’ is amazing and their show with the LA Phil at the Walt Disney Concert Hall is a must see! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pJNyndt01dPcnaM.html

I've only recently started going down the rabbit hole of music reaction videos. It was TODAY that I thought... "Why don't I see if people are reacting to my favourite songs out there...?" And here we are. WELCOME TO THE WORLD THROUGH THE EYES OF SIGUR ROS. (^_^) This song played at my wedding whilst fireworks shot overhead *perfection*

I am always impressed by Iceland, in music, in sports, in general.... there are almost more people in my homeowners society than there are on Iceland and still they are great at a lot of things...... feels like everybody on that Island must be famous in on or another way for the math to make sense

Thank you for reacting to SigurRós, I hope you check out the album version for yourself, I found this a little bleak in comparison. Maybe it is just me. Hope you try listening to more Icelandic music in the future.

Nice discoveries you're making :-) Sigur Ros is sort of a post rock band and has several beautiful albums, but can be slightly... monotoneous(?) and is best listened to as background music - imho. This song is from Ágætis byrjun, which is probably their most famous album. I can recommend that album, plus Valtari and the strangely titled albums "()" and "Takk...". As far as I know, they don't sing in islandic either, but in an "invented" language :-) PS If you want to delve more into similar "beautiful" post rock, I highly recommend Hymn to the Immortal Wind by the japanese band Mono. A true gem of an album - but again, best listened to as background music.

They sing in Icelandic, I understand every single word,😉

As @@Galdra stated, they do sing in Icelandic, and only some of their songs are in the made-up Hopelandic language. The entire ( ) album is in Hopelandic, where a just a handful of phrases are repeated throughout, almost like a mantra.

@Annoying Elitist Yes, I've listened quite a lot to them and other post rock bands. And yes, they work well as background music. I often listen to post rock when I need to concentrate, or just want to create a good mood. It can also work as immersive and slightly dreamy music, if you have the time to spare. But post rock is typically fairly long stretched, slow building and atmospheric. It's interesting and can be artsy and beautiful, but isn't exactly complex stuff that _requires_ immersion.
@IvoryCruzader
@IvoryCruzader 2 жыл бұрын
@Annoying Elitist Absolutely. And personally I feel I get "enough" of that to thoroughly enjoy it while such music is playing in the "background". But the purpose of my original post was to be informative and helpful. I strongly encourage anyone to give post rock a chance. Including Mike and Ginger. But imho, a lot of post rock songs aren't very well suited for reactions. I believe it can come out as a bit slow and "boring" both for the reactor and their audience. And I don't think that listening to an isolated post rock song does the music justice either. Such music should imho be enjoyed as full albums - either in the background or with closed eyes when resting or slowly falling asleep (or however you prefer). Cheers.

@@ILDomer17 Thanks for clarifying that. Then I've been misinformed, which I'm actually thankful for. I much prefer the already exotic icelandic language :-)

whAAAAATTT? you don't know sigur rós? but you have heard of björk, don't you? but i have to say that sigur rós is not my taste in music, they have made a beautiful documentary, though. "heima", worth to watch it. but we have better bands here, i promise, with better vocals Blá nótt yfir himininn //blue night above the sky Blá nótt yfir mér //blue night above me Horf-inn út um gluggann //as i look out of the window Minn með hendur //my hands Faldar undir kinn // are folded under my cheeks Hugsum daginn minn //i think about my day Í dag og í gær // today and yesterday Blá náttfötin klæða mig í // i'm dressed in a blue pyjama Beint upp í rúm //going straight to bed Breiði mjúku sængina //i spread the soft blanket Loka augunum //close my eyes Ég fel hausinn minn undir sæng //i hide my head under the blanket Starir á mig lítill álfur //a little elve is staring at me Breytir mér í, en hreyfist ekki //unchanged, not moving Úr stað - sjálfur//out of place, you yourself Starálfur// staring elve Opna augun //open your eyes Stírurnar úr //rub the sleep out of your eyes Teygi mig og tel (Hvort ég sé ekki)// i stretch and believe - if i don't see Kominn aftur og allt allt í lagi // i come back and everything is okay Samt vantar eitthvað // but something is missing Eins og alla veggina // like all the walls Úr stað - sjálfur // out of place, you yourself Ég er...// i am this one here is BEAUTIFUL, taken from the documentary i mentioned before. here is steindór andersen singing. he sings a "rímur", which is the tradition style of singing and quiet haunting. it connects me immediatly with icelandic soil and roots. before there where books or people able to afford them, we had rímur. educated people traveled around, visiting the remote farms and told the news with rímur. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grqTprd-sM65oI0.html
