touching the ball down in the end goal area scores a try (5 points) after the try is scored a conversion kick(2 points) is taken in line with where the ball was placed on the ground in the goal area making a converted try worth (7 points). In the distant past a try was only to give you the shot at kicking the ball over the crossbar between the posts. A conversion is a uncontested shot at the poles. A penalty scores (3 points) and is given for contravention of the laws (another story for another time) at the place where the infringement took place. Sometimes it is close enough to kick uncontested for the poles or the option can be taken to gain field territory by kicking for the sidelines out of play( touchline) where the kicking team gets the advantage to restart the game( a line out where the ball is thrown into play). There are a lot more laws for this part. A drop kick is (3 points) and gets taken by a team member whilst being pressurized by the opponents so it is contested and a skill trained for over a long time. Anyway there are a number of laws for the game this might help with the scoring issues. It has never been called a touch down but is the reason NFL refers to it as a touch down due to the having to touch the ground in the goal (endzone area)

A try is worth 5 points and gives the scoring team an attempt at a conversion kick (inline with where the try was scored, making a try underneath the posts more beneficial than a try in the corner, as you'll have an easier shot at the conversion kick) The conversion kick is worth 2 points (converting the "5 point try" to a "7 point converted try"). The converted kick only happens after a try. The ball can hit the post, but MUST cross the goal line between the two vertical posts and above the horizontal post, as with any successful goal kicking attempt) Failure to score the conversion leaves you earning just the 5 points (for the try) There's a penalty kick, worth 3 points. This is an uncontested place kick at the posts (placing the ball on the ground, taking a run up and kicking) and happens after the opposing team commits a worthy foul. This penalty kick is usually one of a few options available to the attacking team upon receiving the penalty and must take place where the foul was committed. If a team doesn't feel they are in a position to score this way (too far away, bad angle, poor kicking form etc) they may choose another option. Then there's a "drop goal" worth 3 points. This is when a player intentionally drops the ball to their foot and kicks it as soon as it hits the grass. It can happen at any time during open play but the opposing team will be looking for it and can contest the kick (either by blocking/charge down, or just flat out tackling the player that's about to kick), and the kicking technique is required. You can't just hoof the ball out of your hands. Oh, there's also a thing called a penalty try, where a defending team intentionally commits a foul worthy of a penalty, where the attacking team would have scored beyond doubt had the foul not been committed. These are usually awarded near the try line, are awarded based heavily on referees judgement (would the try have been scored, or would it be unclear) and usually result in the offending player receiving a yellow card (10 minutes on the bench) . Penalty Tries are automatically converted to 7 points without the need for the attacking team to attempt the conversion. TL; DR don't concede Penalty Tries.
@kingspeechless1607
@kingspeechless1607 2 жыл бұрын
If you score a 'try' by touching down on or behind the goal line it is 5 points to your team; you then have the chance to take the conversion kick through the uprights from level with where the try was touched down to earn 2 more points. Additionally a penal kick at the goal can be awarded for a penalty offence, if successful that is 3 points. Lastly any ball-carrier can attempt a 'drop goal' at the posts by dropping the ball and kicking it on the 'half-volley' (as it bounces) between the uprights for 3 points.

The ball can only be passed to a player behind the ball carrier. The ball can be kicked forward and the kicker may run and collect his own kick, Or a team mate may collect it but the rule still applies a player can only pass to a player behind. So the team mate that collects the ball must be behind the kicker when he kicks the ball or he will be deemed offside,

Rugby LEAGUE has teams of 13 players. Rugby UNION has teams of 15, excluding the substitutes in both cases. League and Union are two completely different codes with different rules. What you were watching here is Rugby Union, by far the most popular and widespread of the codes. Rugby Sevens is a variation of Union and is the one played in the Olympics and in the world wide tournament tours, which includes the Vegas tournament. The U.S has fairly good Sevens teams (both men's and woman's) but their full 15's team is crap. I don't think that Rugby League, which is the most similar to American Football, is played at all in the U.S. Both Rugby League and American Football developed out of Rugby Union. [None of the Rugby variations have teams of 11 players]

plain and simple...when you put the ball down across the line it is a TRY(5 points). After a try you get the opportunity to "convert" it (kicking to post)(2 points, and only if you score a try). If you get a penalty and choose to go for post kicking(im sorry, might be the only whey i know how to explain)...(its worth 3 points) to sum it up ball on the ground (try) 5 points after try go for post (convert) 2 points penalty go for points (ye shit its a penalty) 3 points

Yes, Guys. American Football is similar in some ways to Rugby Union because AF was based on Rugby Union! Rugby Union was introduced to the Ivy league Universities in the US, copying what their equivalent Universities in England played. It caught on and crowds of up to 50,000 would watch US University matches. US sports rubbed their hands with glee. The USA was very good at the sport. A US team, selected from those Ivy League Universities (all amateur), won back-to-back Gold Medals at the Olympics in the 1920's before the full sized game was dropped from the Games. It was re-introduced to the Olympics in the Rugby 7's format in 2016. So, the sporting bodies and individual investors wanted to develop the game beyond Universities. BUT... at that time, Rugby Union was strictly amateur. Meaning, no payments for players. So, the US interest groups decided to breakaway and develop their own game, based on Rugby, to take it Professional. That's why a number of Terms used (like Touchdown, come from rugby where it is required to "touch down" the ball over the line to score.) The initial game was called "Grid Iron". Later changed to American Football but simply referred to as Football by Americans, completely ignoring the worldwide game already played called Football. (It was actually called Association Football, shortened to Football) So it got called Soccer, based on the Association part of the name, in the USA. Ya live and learn, eh? Cheers.

It’s called a try. However in order for a try to be scored. There must be downward pressure on the ball lever the try line. If your foot is in touch. Ie outside the line of field of play and you touch the ball down over the try line. It’s not a try or a score. As a part of your body was off the field of play. Known as in touch.

The score is called a try, and the difference between a try and a touchdown is that in a try ball must be touched to the ground behind the try line while under the control of the attacking player. If the defending team can prevent the ball from being touched to the ground then no points are scored.

It's called a Try because at one point you received 0 points. All you got was an attempt a kick at goal. What you got was a Try. When I started in the early 70s a Try was 4 points. In the mid 90s they boosted it to 5 which finally made a converted Try worth more than 2 kicks.

Yep, its a touchdown but got the nick name "try" when the only scores were a single point for converting a penalty or for converting a touchdown hence the crowd would exclaim "try" for a touchdown; as in the team could now try for a point by converting the touchdown. The conversion isn't shown in your video but its pretty much the same thing as in American Football except yours are always taken in front of the posts.

Rugby is none stop action 40 min each half.
