Rugby is 80 mins of action, NFL is about 8 minutes. Nuff said!!
@MrDJMcNeely2 жыл бұрын
In rugby you are taught to lead with your shoulder in a tackle where as football is lead with the helmet. Jog around for 80 minutes with some sprinting for maybe 30 of those 80 minutes and wrestling for another 50 of that 80 and you will get the gist of rugby. You switch from offense to defense in a heartbeat when you gain possession or lose possession of the ball.

They hit harder in American football because of the lack of form. When you have no equipment tackle technique is key. Also factoring in the amount of breaks in American football. Rugby is a constant game like soccer. You're always basically under fatigue. Thanks guys

@brucefale61322 жыл бұрын
I watched a whole season of NFL and maybe saw 6 so called "big hits".....lol In one game of rugby you'll see at least 15+. So it's BS that helmets make you hit harder. NFL players play 15 games a year and even then players are not on the field the entire time. Rugby players can play up to 30+ games a season with constant movement and physicality for 80mins a game. NFL is for woosies.
@sammyraaa91382 жыл бұрын
it wasnt a penis size comp bruv haha.. its actually true they hit harder because they dont have to focus so much on technique like Union players do. now if they were to make the comparison between the NFL and (pre shoulder charge ban) NRL thatd be a different story
@mch-gaming14372 жыл бұрын
It's not the "hits harder" more "hits more recklessly" the helmet makes them think they can use their head which leads to more concussions. If you're tackling properly in rugby then you aren't using your head to hit so its less likely to cause major head injury.

Avery, the first clever American I've seen reacting to rugby videos. I do believe that the hits are harder in NFL, but poor in technique because they're padded

Having played both rugby and NFL, rugby is by far the harder game. The only protective gear is a mouth guard. But really look at the laws of the game if you think it’s easy. But you have only shown tackles, watch a full international game.

I feel the NFL in the 80's was a lot tougher than they are today, would that be fair to say?
@Dreyno2 жыл бұрын
@@ruanniemann2604 From a rugby perspective, video and video referees have eradicated a lot of the dirty play. Testicle tweaking, eye gouging, biting, elbows, stamping, headshots etc. But at the same time, the conditioning of the players and the money involved leads to a higher intensity game, where although the filth might be more or less eradicated, the legal violence is worse than ever. I suspect in American football it is similar.
@silakoula2 жыл бұрын
In rugby, you can only pass the ball backwards to move forward. Same with american football, each teams try to take the ball into the in-goal area (endzone). To score a try (touchdown), the ball carrier must force the ball on the ground in the in-goal area, whereas in american football you just take it into the endzone. A try is worth 5 points. After a try is scored, a conversion is attempted, a successful conversion is worth 2 points. That's a 1-point conversion in american football. The point of conversion must in line from where the try was scored. That's why you'll see kicks are taken from the sides od the goal posts. Regardless of the outcome of the conversion, the play is restarted by the opposing team with a drop kick restart from the half-way line (50m line). Now at the kick-off/drop kick restart, the ball must: 1. Travel at least 10m; and 2. Do not travel outside the touchline, on the full (ball travel straight outside the field of play, without bouncing in the field of play first). If so, the refree will award either a scrum to the receiving team right on halfway; or a line-out where the ball crossed the touchline. A scrum is where the forwards from both teams (players with no. 1 - 8) comes together and contest for the ball, with the scrumhalf of the attacking team feeds the ball into the scrum from the side. There's a lot of laws regardings the scrum to ensure a fair contest for the ball, such as: 1. The scrumhalf must feed the ball straight into the scrum, otherwise a penalty is awarded to the other team. 2. They must push the other team in a straight line, angling in the scrum gives you an advantage but is also illegal, and a penalty is awarded. While the forwards push each other in the scrum, the backs (no. 10 - 15) lines up behind to form a set play. Lineout is played when the ball goes out the touchline. Again, the forwards are the main actors again here. They form a straight line perpendicular to the tryline and the ball is thrown into the lineout by the hooker (no. 2). A playercan be lifted to catch the throw. Again, there are rules to ensure a fair contest. 1. The jumpers must contest for the ball only, and not pull or grab the other jumper in the air, otherwise a penalty is awarded. 2. If the throw in is not straight, a scrum is awarded to the non-opposing team. If a penalty is awarded, the non-opposing team can either choose to 1. Kick for goal (worth 3 points) but will depend on the kicker. 2. Kick for touch (a lineout will ensued with their own throw-in) 3. Scrum at the place of infringement 4. Tap and run the ball. Now, when you are tackled, there's a lot of things going on there. First the game doesn't stop. As the ball carrier, you are required to release the ball and not hold on to it on the ground. As the tackler, you must release the ball carrier so that he has a chance to release the ball to his teammates. And you must also roll away if you are lying on the opppsition's side of the ball. (Confused already???) Also as a tackler, you can complete the tackle, release the player, get to your feet, and take the ball. This must be completed before another player joins you and the ball carrier on the ground. Cause if so, when another players joins (binds is the correct term) a ruck is formed. When a ruck is formed, no onr is allowed to touch the ball other than the scrumhalf. You can try to drive the attacking team's players off the ball, but you must not touch the ball nor fall on it. A penalty will be awarded to the non-opposing team. A game of rugby is 80 mins with two halves of 40 minutes. An injury time can be added after the 80 minutes is up if there was any stoppages during the game for injury treatments. Both teams must field 15 players with 8 players waiting outside as substitution. The only time you leave the field of play is you are substituted or injured. Once you are substituted, you are not allowed to go back in.
@johngardiner68002 жыл бұрын
I'm at odds with two of your statements. One in American football you can throw the ball forward the length of the field mostly the quarterback. In rugby the straight ball at the scrum is no longer kept to as most number nines put the ball in to the second row cutting out the need for the hooker and referees ignor this, don't penalise it and ruining the game completely it's not fair to the other side.
@silakoula2 жыл бұрын
@@johngardiner6800 i agree with the no. 9 feeding, nowadays referees seem to ignore the crooked feeds, but I just merely stating what the law requires. But yeah, no doubt scrumhalfs these days do get away with their scrumnfeeds.

You will need to build up your endurance to play Rugby, the play is continuous, a game is played over two halves consisting of 40 minutes each with about a 10min break in between. Correct on passing the ball backwards, but lateral too, but you can however kick the ball forwards. Also, depending on if it's Rugby Union or Rugby League, there's 15 men on pitch for Union per yeam, but only 13 for League per team. Union is more tactical, but League is faster and tougher.
