It’s funny how, in every reaction I have seen, at this point 11:43 everybody talks about the doble tie, but nobody seems to be surprised at the fact that Marty is having a Videoconference. That’s absolutely normal now, but not in the 80’s.

@@AwesomeUSMovies - Another thing is the "Are you chicken?" trigger for Marty. This trigger was not even in the first movie, still it feels like he always had that tick.. It is good to realise that there were no sequels planned at all. They were happy to be able to make the first movie, and had just made that ending for fun, not to be a preview of Part 2. Therefor, when the first movie became an instant hit, they had to figure out a lot of things for the sequels. A) The Jennifer actress was not available so they had to change the actress. And it was inconvenient that she was in the time-machine as well, so that's why Doc puts her to sleep in the beginning. B) Negotiations with the George McFly actor were unsuccessful so they wrote him out of the script. Any shots of him in Part 2 are old footage or a disguised stand-in. C) They invented a "chicken" trigger for Marty so that he would make stupid decisions. In Part 3 it is changed to a "yellow" rigger.

James, I've seen numerous people react to this movie, and you were the ONLY one who immediately recognized Michael J Fox as the daughter. Impressive. Also, Jennifer was replaced with Elisabeth Shue for this movie and Part 3. The original actress, Claudia Wells, was unavailable because she had to take care of her sick mom when these movies were filming. (Part 2 and Part 3 were filmed simultaneously).

The reason Biff is in so much pain getting back out of the DeLorean in 2015 is because he's vanishing from existence, which was originally going to be shown in a deleted scene. When he changed the timeline by giving his younger self the almanac, he changed his own death. In the DVD commentary they say in the "B" timeline, Lorraine shot and killed him in the mid-90s, so his 2015 self would cease to exist until the timeline was corrected.
@JohnRandomness105
@JohnRandomness105 Жыл бұрын
Personally, I'm glad they removed the vanishing part and reinterpreted Biff's trouble as things being too much for his heart. Clearly, if he was shot in the 90s, he didn't bring the Delorean back to 1955 in 2015.

3:04 Yes. Unfortunately the previous film was written as a stand-alone; the ending where they all take off in the flying DeLorean was just a bit of fun. When the studio demanded a sequel, the writers found they’d written themselves into a corner; they had to start with her (which is why she was so quickly and unceremoniously dumped in the alleyway). Had they planned a sequel they would have done things differently.

Did anyone already tell you that Michael J. Fox wasn't the original actor cast as Marty? It was Eric Stoltz and they started filming with him. It wasn't working though, and they wanted Fox, but he was already so busy filming the tv show Family Ties that he didn't immediately want to do it. I think there is still some footage in the first movie that is actually Eric. I'd have to look it up again for more details. Flying Cars = Not Weird Hoverboards = Weird Your logic fails me. Fun Fact: Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale have admitted on the DVD commentary that they were originally not interested in doing a sequel to their success hit Back To the Future (1985), and that the open ending of the first movie was simply meant as a final joke. However, when plans for a sequel were made by the studio, they chose to remain involved in the continuation of their creation, and even extended it to two sequels. Zemeckis has claimed that if he knew that he was going to make a sequel, he would have made sure that Marty's girlfriend Jennifer wasn't in the car at the end of the first film. Since the movie would concentrate on Marty, there was not much for her to do, and she would even get in his way. This is why Jennifer is knocked out by Doc and left behind so early in the movie.

25:10 It looks like no one in the chat could answer your "how did he time travel without 88mph" question (I'm too lazy to see if anyone else did here in the comments,) so here it is: it's not that Doc upgraded the DeLorean to not require the speed when he had the hover conversion and Mr. Fusion added in 2015, remember it still needs to get up to speed in the opening ("Doc, you better back up, we don't have enough road to get up to 88." "Where we're going we don't need roads.") It's that he _didn't_ time travel without 88mph, the lightning bolt sent the DeLorean into an 88mph _spin._ The weird backwards '9s' left in the sky aren't actually backwards 9s, they're the fire-trails the DeLorean leaves every time it temporally displaces, but in a spiral because the DeLorean was rolling instead of moving forward. That plus the fact that there isn't any debris raining down is a nice bit of short foreshadowing that the lightning bolt must've charged the flux capacitor As is the case with everything in this series, there's a lot of small detail behind it, too. In the first movie, the DeLorean actually needs to hold 88mph for a few seconds to time travel. In this movie, it doesn't; when we see the view from inside where the speedometer is visible when they go to 1985-A, it time-travels instantly when it hits 88, so Doc probably did do an upgrade of some kind for better efficiency, just not one that removes the speed requirement. On it's own it seems like such a small thing that you'd think they couldn't possibly have done it on purpose and it's just how they decided to film the scene. Except, when you get to Part 3, where the DeLorean is 70-80 years old, half a step away from being a junker and the time circuits had to be rebuilt with analog components from 1955, the details of what it looks like when the DeLorean travels through time have all been altered to make the process look _less efficient._

And no people, it wasn't a spoiler. Last 5 minutes of the movie after Doc got struck by lightening. The real spoiler is actually what the previews don't even really show

Yes, Michael J Fox was Marty's daughter, "Marlene McFly" Fun fact: The voice of Biff's grandmother, "Gertrude Tannen", was also Thomas F. Wilson - so yea, talented man even being the female relatives. His voice acting skills are outstanding. Something to notice: The writers are clearly trying to say that there's a connection between those who pressure others to do stuff... and cowards. How? Very simply and subtly... Most people miss it; not saying you missed it, coz I don't know. But "Douglas". Douglas is both Needles's first name and George's middle name. So the writers quite literally use a name to bind those two individuals together, individuals who represent personality traits like all the characters in this franchise do. Something to think about also, someone else mentioned to you in the comments about the guy - Charles Fleischer's character "Terry" the mechanic of 1955 being who Marty's talking to in 2015 - but there's something else to think about here.: Whose fault is the screwed up 1985 really?... It's Terry's!... So in a strange turn of events, it's the very person that Biff has an argument with over only $80 who causes him to be the richest man in the world - rich enough to just see 80 bucks as petty change... and of course also evil; but it's mainly the money element that even people who 'get' it (that it's the same guy) don't 'really' get. But I just love things like that. You can tell the writers literally thought of everything. And now that you've seen the third one, something else will stand out. "$80". The very amount that;s involved in another financial disagreement involving Buford, Biff's ancestor. As if what Buford Tannen did in 1885 brought a karma-type curse on his family bloodline and that the universe was going to get revenge on one of his descendants through somebody else later on. (Again, the writers clearly knew what they were doing). - The other side note based on the same comment from the other person mentioning that Fleischer voices Roger in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (which is true - and it's a great movie by tyhe way if you haven't seen it, it also has Christopher Lloyd, as well as being a Steven Spielberg movie). But Charles Fleischer also voiced 3 other characters in the Who Framed film as well.

Oh and yes Marty's girlfriend Jennifer is different. (Elisabeth Shue instead of Claudia Wells), Wells had to move to take vcare of her mom who was suffering cancer which ended up taking her mother's life. And the accurate story of the departure of original George actor Crispin Glover is that he wasn't being unreasonable at all despite how some have tried to color him. Glover found out that he was getting less money for his role than Thomas F. Wilson and Lea Thompson (Lorraine) were getting for their roles (which was the same amount as each other) and this injustice had started with the first film and he wanted the situation rectified and was more than happy to continue if it was. It wasn't obviously and so he walked away with his dignity. That money dispute had to do with integrity and fairness, not Glover's ego which is how it's often depicted.

@@AwesomeUSMovies Welcome! Pleasure! You're a good reactor, James, by the way. I'll be watching more of your stuff. This is my only other long comment on here and then I'm done. You definitely made it obvious how many films you haven't seen (which I know is the purpose of this channel and is not at all a judgment) by your reaction to number 3. The guy on the right of the table at the tavern in the third film is an actor named Pat Buttram whose done a whole bunch of stuff. A lot of voice acting especially and a lot of other reactors to this trilogy recognize his voice when he talks. (Buttram's also in Who Framed). This BTTF franchise has a couple of short films and 2 13-episode seasons of a tv series. The short films are live action and the tv show is animated but both have actors who return for their roles. Thomas F. Wilson is still all the Tannens in the series for example; as well as Mary Steenburgen as Clara. And Donald "Don" Fullilove returns as "Goldie" Wilson, the mayor and his relatives, in one of the short films. The tv series is set after the third film and Jules and Verne, Doc and Clara's sons, are now main characters. - Finally, an Easter Egg to catch - this is one it seems that everybody else misses, so I'll share it with you. If you remember, Lorraine in the first film didn't swipe the alcohol from a liquor store, but from her mother's liquor cabinet. And in these films, they go out of their way to touch on relatives sharing first names; not just surnames. Now... Why? And what's the relevance of this for an Easter egg? In the third film, when Chester the bartender is calling out for his barkeeping assistant, he calls him "Joey". And if you remember, "Joey" is the name of Lorraine's brother. So in other words, the franchise is communicating that Lorraine Baines, Joey Baines and even Stella Baines their mom; (and by extension all the McFly kids), had an influence from or relationship with alcohol already seeping into their homes and Stella's family line back in 1885 in the old west (as if the alcohol-involvement was being constructed at the same time that Hill Valley was being constructed).

You could also gather 2 other things by what I just said as well with the Joey of the tavern. 1. Even when Seamus and Maggie aren't in the tavern, Marty (obviously posing as Clint Eastwood anyway) is 'still' in the same building as one of his ancestors; and he doesn't even know it. 2. This franchise has Easter eggs that have nothing to do with time travel or its changes. And with that mind-blowing, I bid you farewell for now. But I thought you might find that one interesting coz I'd out money on the fact that no one else even saw it let alone mentioned it to you.

Looper is a crazy time travel film w/ a surprise twist on the ending and ultimate story hook. Also, not really a Time travel film, but IDIOCRACY, guy from the present ends up in the future Ala Cryo-freeze. Hilarious parody of supposed future, that sadly shares more in truth with what occurs today.

lol I'm such a geek to do this, my theory though it's not widely accepted is given further proof in this film (though some of it is just recasting issues) one of the big issues about these 2 films coming is the Chicken argument, as the first film shows Marty to be very rational and this character break doesn't fit, would though if this was a different Marty that was essentially the Marty we saw going to the past at the end of 1. that and this version of Doc Brown is against Gambling, but the first version we see in 1 mentions gambling as being a reason to make the time machine, he actually mentions the world series winners.

10:32 Some trivia: The production team couldnt find a solution on the payment for Georges Character so that in the end they chose someone else to play George. They _create_ a new Jennifer who will emerge in the final timeline, because _this_ Jennifer now has to live out her life in "Biff's World". In much the same way that they _destroyed_ the Marty of the alternate future in the first movie. The fact that his father became successful means an entirely different upbringing; the Marty that emerges (the one "we" follow) "overwrites" the Marty of the successful father's upbringing. ...so the producers destroyed the lives of TWO characters that just isn't addressed. Doc's "explanation" that the world will "change around her", doesn't pan out, because at the end of the 3rd movie, there are changes to _this_ Marty's world, that could only happen if "Biff's World" is *still* an alternate reality out there, and they left Jennifer in it, so the one that emerges is actually _created,_ due to the alternate timeline.

Hello James, Love your reactions! You mentioned you like the medieval time period which is my favorite also (along with dragons). A movie you might like that came out in 1981 called 'Excalibur' might be something that interest you. I think it comes the closest to the origins of King Arthur and the quest for the holy grail. It has tons of actors in it that became famous later on. Some of the actors in the movie were professional stage actors at the time so some of the acting can be a little over the top (did not bother me). It also was filmed in the early 80's when sword and sorcery were really starting to gain ground (as well as the Dungeons and Dragons game) and tons of movies covering the topic were starting to be made. Two other movies are 'Dragonslayer', one of Disney's first or second attempts to make more mature movies instead of cartoons and it also contains what many people consider the best practical effects dragon to ever be shown on film. Also 'Conan the Barbarian' with Arnold Schwarzenegger is great, and the soundtrack is unbelievable.
