What makes the audition scene great, is the "Too darn loud" guy, is Huey Lewis. He wrote all the modern, for 1985, songs in the movie, and performed them with his band, The News.

Best reaction i have ever seen! And the fact that you noticed so many details (like the twin pines mall vs Lone pine mall), some people whatch the movie 3 or 4 times and do not notice stuff like that. Also the fact that you are not a teenager( like in most reactions i have seen), so, to someone who knew the 80´s that is a more "normal" reaction to things. It was a joy to whatch, thank you!!

The guy who plays Biff (Thomas Franklin Wilson) is funny as hell. During the filming before Michael Fox was there, there was another actor playing Marty who caused Thomas bruces when he pushed Biff at school. Thomas was doing his best because he saw this as his golden opportunity. One day he received a call from the producer, saying there was something that needed to be discussed personally. Thomas asked for a lead but no, drive to his office to be notified. Thomas thought all kind of bad news, and he thought he blew it up somehow, and this driving was the most stressful moment in his life. When Thomas arrived, he was told the actor of Marty would be replaced and they needed to film scenes again. Thomas felt lots of relief and he asked if they would be paid for the extra work and the answer was yes. And he also asked if lunches would continue to be free and the answer was yes. Later Thomas worked for Wing Commander 3 and 4 videogames with Mark Hamill (the actor of Luke Skywalker. Mark was playing Christopher Blair and Thomas was playing Maniac. Every shot that was filmed for that game had Thomas saying hillarious twists for the speech he just had. It was impossible to stay serious. Even Mark Hamill said "I am supposed to be a dead serious character but he does not make it easy with his jokes after each scene, he is hillarious".

It's hard to believe that they shot almost the whole film before they decided to change actors. In my opinion it was the best decision to get Michael J. Fox to take over the role.. The behind the scene documentary is just as interesting as the film. This is a classic.

I've become really cynical of time travel stories of late, but this trilogy still holds up very nicely. Fun Fact: President Ronald Reagan was amused by Doc Brown's disbelief that an actor like him could become President, so much so that he had the projectionist stop and replay the scene. He also seemed to enjoy it so much that he even made a direct reference of the film in his 1986 State of the Union address: "As they said in the film Back To The Future (1985), 'Where we're going, we don't need roads.'"

The main thing that bothers me is in part 2. Biff should not be able to return the delorean to the timeline he took it from. Doc even explained why just a few scenes after this. It could have been explained that the changes perhaps didn't happen immediately, but rippled slowly toward the future and that biff made it back just in time, before the ripples reach 2015.

Cast: Michael J Fox (Marty) was on a hit TV series called "Family Ties" at the time of this movie; Doc Brown was in a hit 1970's TV series called "Taxi"; George McFly is a character actor who is rumored to be difficult to work with... so he is well known but never became a star: Lorraine sometime later had a hit TV series called "Caroline In The City"

I have to say you're pretty damn observant with the Twin Pine/Lone Pine thing. I personally hadn't noticed that tidbit until 20 years after I had first watched this film and I had watched it at least 20 times in those 20 years. If you watch the entire trilogy. you'll find at least one other similar instance; another instance I didn't notice until years later. No, they did NOT plan to make a sequel. That last scene was intended as a joke. It wasn't until a few years later that they realized the franchise was popular enough for a sequel and had sufficient demand for it. And Happy New Year to you and yours from here in Central Wisconsin.

Fun fact: the teacher who tells Marty and his band that they're "too loud" while covering Huey Lewis & The News is.... Huey Lewis himself. :) Fun fact #2: Lea Thompson, who plays Marty's girlfriend, is now an accomplished Hollywood director, and recently directed episodes of "Star Trek: Picard" Fun fact #3: Doc Brown was played by Christopher Lloyd. He also played a Klingon commander in "Star Trek III: The Search For Spock". Kirk and his crew steal his ship, and (in the next film) use it to time travel back to 1980s Earth - therefore, Christopher Lloyd is the only actor to lose control of his time machine in two entirely different movies :)

Your enjoyment of these movies is so wholesome and joyful! Robert Zemeckis is incredible- that's why I named my dog after him. And I'm a person who can't sleep in total silence. Before I met my husband, I used to put the tv in my bedroom on with the volume very low, PLUS a little white noise machine, and fall asleep with that. He's very light-sensitive, though, so I switched to earbuds and audiobooks. We still both can't sleep without the sound machine- we even take it with us when we go away.

The song that Marty played, “Johnnie Be Good,” was released in 1958 by Chuck Berry (Marvin’s cousin)...so it was three years early. Marvin felt the need to telephone Chuck to let him hear it (“That new sound you lookin’ for”). The rest is history.

Love this movie and it's two sequels with Part 2 being my favourite. There's so many little refences and hints in these movies everything connected which is mind-blowing that they planned everything out even the smallest details kind of like what the MCU does. 4:54 The man with the megaphone judging Marty’s band The Pinheads saying that there being “too darn loud” to perform at the school dance is played by Huey Lewis who wrote the song "The Power of Love" the same song Marty's band plays in the scene. 8:04 Another small detail which you noticed is the "Twin Pines" Mall sign At the start of the movie when Marty meets up with Doc the Mall is called "Twin Pines" but after Marty returns to the future and runs towards the Mall the sign is changed to "Lone Pines" Mall a consequence of Marty destroying one of Old Man Peabody’s two pine trees on the farmland that the mall replaced.

They very specifically say multiple times that they've never planned the sequels. Universal waited several years before threatening to make a sequel without Gale and Zemeckis. That's when they negotiated very good deals for themselves by having Universal agree to a back to back two picture deal. "If we knew there were gonna be sequels, we'd never bring Jennifer along." Look it up. The ending was just a joke. Generally the "it's not over yet" endings weren't uncommon at the time.

I saw the part 3 teaser after the 2nd movie in theaters and it spoiled nothing for me. To be spoiled from just that, you’d have to watch the 3rd movie first, but if you watched it you can’t be spoiled by it. So just relax and enjoy. The only thing you get out of teaser is the setting which is implied by the 2nd movie and shown on the 3rd poster. In the 1970's and 1980's it was typical for speedometers to not go past like 80 since there was a national speed limit of 55. Cars could go a lot faster but theoretically never should. A fun fact about this movie. Zemeckis had absolutely no plans to do any sequels. The flying car ending was just meant to be one last silly joke, with no resolution. But the movie was such a success that fans pretty much insisted there be a sequel. Had Zemeckis known that ahead of time, he would not have put Jennifer in the car with Doc and Marty when they flew off to the future. As a result, some clever writing needed to be done to include Jennifer in the continuing story.

I was born in the 80's in Finland. During my childhool we had a TV, but the national TV network only had two official channels, YLE 1 and YLE 2. These were state owned and funded by TV permit fees, which everyone was obligated to pay, unless you could prove you do not have a single TV set in your house. Later, maybe in the late 80's or early 90's we got our first commercial channel MTV 3 (BTW, it did not stand for "music television", but for the Finnish words for "advertisementl TV"), and sometime in the late 90's we got channel 4, which was also commercial. So growing up, we did not have too many channels either. At some point we did get cable and got access to channels like MTV (the music one this time) and Eurosport. Fortunetaly I got to experience MTV at its prime, with Beavis and Butthead, Daria, Eon Flux and get this - actual music videos!

There are jokes in the movie that made audiences in 1985 laugh hilariously but no one gets any more. For example, at the beginning of the movie Biff says to George McFly "I had your car towed all the way to your house and all you have for me is light beer?" This is a reference to a Miller Lite TV commercial you couldn't have avoided seeing a thousand times. Another and my favorite is the scene where Marty is struggling to twist open a bottle of soda and George takes the bottle away from him and pops the bottle cap off with the bottle opener on the vending machine. Up until the mid 60 twist off caps were pretty much non-existent. By 1985 the old style non twist off cap could be found only on some beer bottles. This joke only lands if you know this.

There's a famous Clint Eastwood movie you may want to watch before doing BTTF part II and III as it plays an important part it them. It's called "A Fistful of Dollars" (1964) as Marty would know that movie very well! @ 4:22 All the clocks going off at once is a shout-out to the original and most awesome time-travel movie made, George Pal's classic "The Time Machine" (1960) where something similar occurred. @ 15:30 And peeping at Marty's mom who liked undressing in front of her window! That's why her dad was always dodging boys there. LOL! @ 27:15 That song, Johnny B. Goode, was about 3 years away from being written and released by Chuck Berry. Actually rock and roll developed all thru the 50s and got its name in 1954, and really took off in the latter half of the 50s. BTW, did you catch that guy Marvin calling his cousin Chuck (Berry) so he could hear the song he would later write and make famous? It's another time paradox like that "chicken and the egg" thing. It's partly why physicist think time traveling to the past is impossible. But traveling into the future is not only possible it happens all the time. If one went too far ahead, one couldn't come back. @ 30:48 I gotta compliment you dude. I watch a LOT of reactors doing this movie and I swear an average of 9.5 out of 10 totally miss the Lone Pine Mall thing! LOL! The story I've read is there was no sequel planned as the flying car was a joke at the end. But the public response to the movie was so big, it surprised the producers and director, they made the two sequels back to back thus the all spoiler previews for part III. So they had to do the flying car(s) even though we knew back in '85 there would be no flying cars by 2015 let alone 2022. I think even Zemeckis talked about that. It was still cool though! Enjoyed the reaction and will be looking for the sequels. There's another time-travel movie of sorts and scientifically accurate called "Interstellar" (2014) one of the best scifi movies to date. If you haven't seen it you would enjoy it too, and should do a video. 😎👍

Like I tell people: I didn't have the heart to steal Groucho's name so I borrowed only most of it! 🥸 BTW, it may not be that critical to watch "Fistful" before the rest of BTTF if you're familiar with Eastwood's movies already, it would just help. Besides it's a good western! Subscribing now. Cheers! 😁

Michael J Fox filmed this while he was still doing Family Ties. He would film the night scenes in the evening after shooting Family Ties then on the weekend they filmed the day scenes. He basically slept in a car or van going from set to set. Between night shooting of this movie and shooting Family Ties he got to sleep in his bed. The first scene where you don’t see Marty’s face was a different actor walking around Doc’s place. It wasn’t Michael J Fox until you saw his face in the rubble. He was the main choice to play Marty but they had trouble getting him away from Family Ties and the production company said start shooting with this guy (ended up being Eric Stoltz) and if he didn’t work out they’d pay for the reshoots. This series will never be rebooted or anymore sequels while Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale are alive (they probably have in their will that even after their gone it still won’t happen). They’re real protective of it. The drunk at the end that sees the DeLorean come back to 1985 was the mayor in 1955. The teacher saying he was too darn loud is Huey Lewis from Huey Lewis and the News. They sing the song for this movie “The Power of Love”. The name of the mall was changed cause we Marty drove out of the barn he ran over one of the pines. This originally wasn’t going to have a sequel. The “to be continued” at the end was added after the theatrical release to home video.

A fun theory is that Mary's parents knew by the time Marty was a teenager that he somehow will time travel and change their futures for the better thus rewarding him with the Toyota. If you have that on your mind when you see their reaction when he looks back at them in the doorway it makes sense.

Yeah, when he went back to 1955 at the beginning of the movie he knocked down with the DeLorean one of the little pines the farmer had in his plot, so when he went back to 1985 there's only one huge pine at the mall and it's no longer the Twin Pines Mall.

One of the things I like about your reactions is that you also talk about the individual performances of the actors, even if you don’t know who any of them are. For this is I was specifically curious to see what your take would be to the actor who played the dad. Crispin Glover. He’s a very interesting actor. He has a reputation in Hollywood as something of the eccentric outsider. Hi, James! Greetings from Australia! I just wanted to tell you how much I've been enjoying your movie reactions. It's so much fun watching my favourites with somebody as observant as you, who notices all the clever little setups and payoffs in a movie like Back to the Future. A huge part of my love for this movie comes from how tightly written the script is. Everything that is set up gets paid off, all the questions you have are answered as soon as you ask them and you can tell the writers spent a lot of time writing and rewriting their script until it was the best it could possibly be. Movies just aren't written like that anymore, at least not big studio movies like this is. Take care, friend!
