You also saw Rick James in Eddie Murphys "Party All The Time",he helped produce it for Eddie as well as backup sing on it. I remember when he walked up to *receive* an award (not too far back in time),of course he ended on a loud: "Im Rick James,BI***!",then you saw all the celebrities in the audience break down in complete laugh attacks. That dude was a TRIP!

Super Freak was sampled by M.C. Hammer in the song "Can't Touch This". More Rick James? Try "Mary Jane", "Bustin' Out", ands "Fire and Desire" with Teena Marie. Btw, Teena Marie will blow you away!!."Deja Vu" is my favorite by her. Other gems from her are "Square Biz" and "Portuguese Love". As for The Temptations, anything they sang was gold. "My Girl", "I Wish It Would Rain", "The Way You Do the Things You Do", "Ball of Confusion", and a big favorite, "PAPPA WAS A ROLLING STONE". Great reaction! I look forward to seeing more Rick and company!😊🎶🎧

If you want a 2 for 1, “Standing on the Top” by the Temptations with Rick James singing the chorus. The video features them all together. Rick produced the song. His uncle was Melvin Franklin, a member of the Temptations.

Rick James and the Temptations have a video and song together call "Standing on the Top" which is pretty cool. The bass singer from the Temptations Melvin Franklin was Rick Jame's uncle and they all were at Motown Records.

Rick James “Mary Jane” is master piece of cool vibes. Do see some Rod Stewart please. Try “Maggie May” Live acoustic Unplugged & Seated album. Ron Wood (Rolling Stones & Faces) lead guitar 🎸. Both men are two time members of R&R Hall of Fame. Loved the stop to check the lil one.

Rick James was the nephew of Melvin Franklin of the Temps. He wrote for the group. One song they did together "Standing on the Top",is one of my favorites.Check it out.

Rick James used some glitter and hair extensions weaved into his own hair, here. Also one of The Temptations was his Uncle. Rick 's work was prolific. He produced a hit for Eddie Murphy. "Party all the Time" I love Rick James....R.I.P. , brother.

"Super Freak" was a giant hit for Rick It-seemed that year I couldn't get away from it!! Every radio station, nightclub, car and home stereo was blastin' it. Best Temptations songs are the funkier ones from their late 60's stuff-- "Cloud Nine" or "Psychedelic Shack".

That's coke sweat. Rick & the Temptations go waay back. Rick also happened to be cousins with Melvin Franklin of the Temptations. Rick produced the Temptations song Standing On The Top..Rick was friends with legendary 60s musicians Neil Young and Joni Mitchell after fleeing to Toronto. In 1964 to avoid going to Vietnam.

My mom introduced me to his music with that song. She's going to be 66 this year and my god, her music taste is incredible. Her collection is like a chest of legendary songs.

Dave Chappelle had a comedy bit based on some of the stories of Rick James. Very funny, you guys might like it. Keep in mind Rick James was big during a really wild time.

Back in the daze, the early 90's, after folks had already been dancing for three and a half hours at a Grateful Dead concert, my buddies would pull out their portable PA system, The Trunk Of Funk, and play disco and funk until the cops would close us down. The first song on was always Superfreak by Rick James. It brought in the girls like no other song, except maybe Brickhouse by The Commodores. Then: Car Wash, Funkytown, What A Man, Sex Machine, Night Fever, etc... .

If you can find anything on Rick's opinion of Prince you won't regret it. Prince was the young buck and opened for Rick in 1980 and it didn't go well lol. From that day on Rick talked major shit calling him an androgynous little skirt.

Of course the video clip of the temptations was dated from way back, but it was actually the Temptations singing that part on the track, which is why Rick shouts, ‘Temptations sing!’ They we’re actually label mates, as Rick was also a Motown artist. You should look for a great docu piece called: HITSVILLE: The Making of Motown. It’s a powerfully important source for understanding the foundation of American music & black culture progressed, even hip hop. Other Rick James: You & I; Give it to Me Baby; Fire and Desire (duet with Teena Marie); Ebony Eyes.
