Amityville Dollhouse is the only sequel you need. Black Christmas is a good 70s horror. It even stars the wife from The Amityville Horror. Edit: Accidentally replied to this comment because I was reading it... I meant it more as a general comment. Oops.

He mentioned that the kid was trapped in the TV and couldn't have been too attached to her since she was only 5 or 6 or maybe 7 but I'm fixing to Google it and settle this! Ok, he started the bit talking about poltergeist but he did say Amityville horror after that and the whole get out part, I actually went back and watched it just now and I stand corrected, you're right!

"Do you think it's haunted" It would be funny as hell to watch a movie like this and at the end they just find where the draft was coming from, and patch it up and roll credits.

Funny you say that one of the reports was that there was a window in the house that would open and close itself but on investigation they found it opens as the door to the room opens because of draft and closed back down after a few minutes

Oh shit, this film was shot in my home town, I know a few interesting little details about this film that you'd really only know if you're from here. 1. The whole exterior of the house was a shell made to look the actual house, that they put over the lake front property they were using (they never actually shot in that house apparently all the interior shots were done in LA). Which is interesting when you realize that just up the street from where this house is there's another house that has the exact same design, the only difference is it's not lake front property. 2. The building that James Brolin goes to on his motorcycle is actually our town hall and was used as a stand in for a library, ironically enough the actual library is right across the street. 3. The scene where James Brolin is driving his motorcycle to go to the library and you see a bunch of hedges in the background, well if you know the layout of my town you know that while he is technically driving towards where the "library" is, he's also driving towards where the house they used for this film is located instead of driving away from it. You actually have to pass that house to get to the town hall from the direction he's driving. 4. All the shots where rain is involved was provided by our local volunteer fire dept., I'm pretty sure my uncle was chief at the time, but regardless he was one of the firemen that helped with this film. 5. Apparently there was no bar called the Witches Brew in in Amityville, that was just a plot made up for the book and movie, but the building they used for it was a law firm in down town Tom's River NJ. 6. There are two scenes I can think of that weren't shot exactly here, but one town over. The church exterior was filmed in Point Pleasant NJ, and the scene where Father Delaney is sitting in that garden was shot at Georgia Court University's Sunken Garden in Lakewood NJ.

Amityville II: The Possession (1982) is actually pretty good (decent acting, good cinematography and direction) & acts as a prequel (which is loosely based on the real life murders) to 1st movie....it was one of the few movie that scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid. I highly recommend it.

My little sister used to have an imaginary friend when she was a kid. We would go by her room and she'd be talking to 'Grandma". But she never met her Grandma and her Grandma died a few months after she was born. She even described her perfectly, never having seen a picture.

Those damn eyes in the window had a lasting impression on me. I saw this partly when I was a kid. When the scene where the red eyes in the window played, I ran from the living room and into my room and wouldn't come out. When my mom got home and found out my dad let me see this, she chewed him out. I didn't see this movie again until I was in my later teens

Rosemary's Baby would be a fun watch. Also The Omen. The Exorcist if you haven't already. As for more recent films, Donnie Darko personally freaked me the hell out first time watching it. Whilst this film was based on a true story it's important to point out that future occupants of the house have reported nothing supernatural in the house. Though fans of the movie have been a constant irritation.

The Lutz family authorized a trio of books which gave their account. They claim the evil spirits/Jody relocated with them. It was never bound to the house. Back in the 70s, when paranormal research was in its infancy, it was widely believed that only places could be haunted; & that ghosts were bound to a specific place. Research over the past few decades have suggested that some spirits are able to attach themselves to people, so can move from place to place. Take that with a grain of salt. I believe in ghosts. You may not.

This movie came out when I was 13, and scared the crap out of me. The part that scared me the most for some reason was the glowing red eyes of Jody, looking through the window. I don't think the house was haunted by a ghost, it was possessed by evil demons.

The current owners of the house itself took out the half-moon windows that resembled eyes and replaced them with standard square windows. The current occupants have been there for quite some time now and they have reported no unusual occurrences whatsoever. They even stated that the only thing scary about the house are the flocks of people taking pictures in front of it all the time.

To be blunt, if they didn’t want to have to deal with people constantly taking pictures of the house, they shouldn’t have bought a house with its kind reputation. I’m not saying it’s right, but they should have known that it would happen whether they like it or not. And regardless of if the hauntings in the house actually happened or not, it doesn’t matter, it’s reputation is cemented, and no matter how much the current owners may wish otherwise, that reputation isn’t going away.

I may b born in 94 but i LOVE horror movies frm the 70s rather than the 2000s(i only watched The Exorcist 1973 though😅) its just the creepy music that creates the ambience n not to mention the "non cheap" jumpscares. It was SUPER n I LOVE IT! THNK U for uploading/introducing me to this movie Sir & Mdm! Im gonna check this out later as this look SCARY!😉

I saw this movie as a kid. Big mistake! Yikes!! My "kid-logic" somehow connected Amityville Horror and Jaws( fictional Amity Island ), LOL! I couldn't figure out why anyone would live in such a horrible place?! 🤣

Really interested to see how you like this. Jump-scares do nothing for me. Strong evil feeling is what terrifies me.. like the original Exorcist. And the 1st Jeepers Creepers (which gave me 2 nightmares). So here we go 😀

Horror in general does not scare me, it's more akin to fascination or mystery to me. But I'm with you on the jumpscares ... the only reaction they get from me, is the surprise. Like of course I react to it, if you slap me in the face out of nowhere. But that's as far away from horror as it can be. That said, there are a couple good "jumpscares" out there. If they have a great build up, they can have a mayor impact. But even then I would argue that the build-up/suspense is probably better and more important than the actual scare.

I remember seeing this as a kid when it came out as a VHS rental here in Germany in the early 80s. Scared the crap out of me. Another one was called "Mausoleum". The memories however were subsequently erased by a plethora of A- and B-movies. Dad would get a load of movies from the local Rental shops for British Army families and the weekends especially were for family movie viewing. Great times. Also a whole lot of copying going on, never seemed to have enough tapes 😄

I only live about 30 minutes from this house on Long Island. When this movie came out for years to come you should have seen the lines of course down the street to see the house. If I remember correctly, it's on a small street next to a inlet from the Atlantic ocean. Also, though it was filmed in Martha's Vineyard, The town "Amity" in Jaws the book was supposedly a small island just off of Long Island. But most people here think it was modeled after the same Amityville Long island as this movie. They originally wanted to film the movie on Long Island but most of Long Island is too densely populated to fit the fictional town.

Now you need to watch the 1977 film "The Sentinel" starring Cristina Raines, Chris Sarandon, Ava Gardner, Burgess Meredith, Sylvia Miles and Eli Wallach, also with Christopher Walken, Beverly D'Angelo, Jose Ferrer, Jeff Goldblum(!) and John Carradine.

If u read the book, the physical description of "Jodi" is chilling and terrifying!!! The movie can't do it justice. There was a really bad storm in my town and all the power was out over night. Me and my best friend started to read the book out loud to each other (we were very bored). We were both in our early 20's. I've never been more creeped out and scared in my life, no BS. I couldn't go in the basement at night for months!!!

This movie, The Exorcist, and the TV miniseries of Stephen King's It all scared me badly as a kid and gave me really bad nightmares. Thankfully as an adult they don't scare me that much anymore.

My youthful innocence was shattered the day I saw this in the theater. This movie freaked me out, bad, despite having read the book before seeing the movie. When I got home, I learned of the passing of my childhood baseball hero, Thurman Munson, who died in a private plane crash. A day I will never forget, sadly. This movie freaked l'il ol' me out real good. LOL

Creepy movie, I watched it on holiday as a kid on tv & it freaked me out, those windows look like eyes. Get out I'd never have gone in. Amityville 2 is a prequel & even scarier than this film.

I never really thought Raggedy Ann dolls were all that creepy, but the shot at 7:47 did a pretty fantastic job at making them extremely freaky. Which is really cool, cuz the real Annabelle is a Raggedy Ann doll, and most of the time movies just take the easy way out and make an overly creepy monstrosity that no one would ever give to their kid

I was a horror nut very early on and was always told how scary this movie was. I watched it on TV as I was too young, and wasnt that impressed. (Of course it was edited )When Amityville II:The Possession came out I begged my mom to take me to see it at the theatre, thinking it was going to be a piece of cake. Well...I got my ass handed to me, and my mom was scared too lol! As cliche as it sounds, the book was much better, but this is a fascinating story, and if you entertain the idea it actually happened, that adds a whole new layer of scary to it. I was very entertained by your reactions. Thanks for sharing this with us : )

Ugh I grew up in a haunted house it was awful. The flies were intense 24/7 even in the winter. The house was on an unmarked graveyard from the 1700s-1800s

@@YouMeTheMovies ... a few for sure, off the top of my memory. There is this one ghost my entire family saw multiple times over the 14 years of living there, it was a women wearing a long white sleeping gown that trailed behind her she was always wet looking, as in her hair would be half up half down as if it had been pulled out of a ponytail by heavy rain. She was the only full body clear as day spirit I personally ever saw. Looking back it’s hard to accept that I actually saw her but my entire family all had experiences with her and we told each other about seeing her after we had moved out. Other than her I would see things in the corners of my bedroom, mine was the only room in the house that was constantly cold no matter how many space heaters I’d have in there it would never heat up. We found little girl underwear and socks in the heat vent in my room even after we had clean it out multiple times while living there over the years. (Before we moved into that place some young girls went missing in the general area we lived...) One time I was laying in bed wide awake and clear as day I heard children whisper in my left ear “we’re here to play”. Ever since and to this day I have issues hearing out of my left ear. I was living in an rv I had bought in 2018 and parked it on the land while visiting my parents and brother after not living there for years and after convincing myself that none of the experience we’d had were real. When one night I saw the Wet Woman in White outside of my window walking towards the old horse barn on the back of the property, then maybe 15 minutes later I heard someone humming a nursery rime right behind me. Those are just some of the things I personally experienced while living there . We call it the “King Road House” and the authority out here is constantly finding dead body’s of missing people in the general neighborhood (to make things even spookier). None of my family lives in that house or on the land anymore and it’s supposed to be demolished and paved over for a parking lot last year but with covid happening another family has moved in...

Please react to Hereditary! It's not a 70's movie (it came out in 2018), but it has that slow burn feel of some of those old classics. From the classics era I would recommend Rosemary's Baby (1968), The Omen (1976), The Wicker Man (1973), and the original Night of the Living Dead (1968).

Some info..... The house known as 112 Ocean Avenue still exists but it has been renovated and the address changed in order to discourage sightseers from visiting it. The quarter round windows have been removed and the house today looks considerably different from its depiction in the films.

Flies will appear in most empty houses when they are heated up again, they always lay egg larvae in walls, I get a one or two from nowhere on one of my same windows now and then the morning after its been very cold and I've out the heating on. Ususally happens about 4 times a year.😟

Some good 70's slow-burn horror are: Burnt Offerings, Salem's Lot, The Sentinel, The Legend of Hell House, The Omen, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Some of my favorite 70s Horror movies are, The Exorcist, The Omen, The Hills Have Eyes, Black Christmas, Jaws, Phantasm, and Dawn of the Dead. There’s others, but they escape my mind lol.

Their are a few docs here on KZfaq about the real story behind the house, the real life tragedy of it and these movies. All good for the horror genre imo

I've been to the house on long island. It's really close to the surrounding houses. Much closer than how it's portrayed in the movie.

Ronald DeFeo Jr, who was the guy who killed his Father, Mother, two sisters and two brothers for real and who the murders at the start are based on only died in March 2021

Hey Y'all. The that murdered his parents and siblings is still alive and in Greenhaven Penitentiary in Stormville, NY. I haven't seen this movie in forever. Glad y'all watched it. Keep up the good work.

Saw this when I was 12. It was pretty scary at the time - especially on a big screen. I was a newspaper delivery boy at the time and had one single house on my route that had the very same attic windows as here. I had no problem delivering papers as I'd simply toss them onto the porch. But collecting the money after the sun went down really freaked me out after seeing this.

I thought I recognized Don Stroud in this movie. If I'm right about that, this would be one of the few films I've seen him in where he wasn't a villain. Then again, he was upstaged by Satan, so...

Burnt Offerings starring Oliver Reed & Karen Black is a good 70's horror film. It is a slow burn with no jump scares but will keep you in suspense.

11:47 Not a ghost, a demon. It doesn't care about money. It cares about causijg confusion, strife, pain and getting people to turn against each other. Imagine how angry, confused and irritable you would be if you mysteriously lost that kind of money, especially in the 70's.

Margot Kidder aka Lois Lane from the first two Superman movies! I love her even better in another film. An underrated horror classic directed by Bob Clark (A Christmas Story) back in 1974 named Black Christmas. 🎄🔪👁
