In this series contains a series of tutorials and guides relating to a piece of voice control and dictation software called Nuance Dragon Naturally Speaking or Dragon Dictate. We are looking at version 15.3 (the current one at the time of recording) for Windows only.
This episode looks at the things that you will encounter when you start it for the first time after installation. It covers a number of GUI and options settings, an overview of the applications which can (and can't) use Dragon to input to them and control them, and what additional software needs to be enabled for Dragon to do that.
We also look deeper into the question of user profiles.

Your tutorials on Dragon natural speaking are the very best I have been able to find. The information comes fast there's no wasted time no fluff. And I appreciate your humor! In fact I'm dictating this comment which I will then transfer as taught by you!

You are a tremendous gentleman and I am greatly appreciative of these training videos. I have to use Dragon because of a chronic pain condition; while I *can* type on a keyboard, within a few minutes I am in a lot of pain, so the more I can learn about Dragon, the less pain I will have to put up with each day. So I want to thank you very much for taking the time not only to create useful training videos, but also interspersing them with some humor. I also greatly appreciate the "Table of Contents" you created so that I can skip around when I forget stuff (which happens a lot). Your mouse commands were very helpful, and I hope there are some further instructions on positioning the mouse pointer beyond the grid. And by the way I agree with your sentiment regarding Google Docs. What a joke. I wonder whether they are concerned with copyright infringement, or just don't feel a need to compete with Microsoft Word. So thanks again for your time, effort, and for sharing your vast knowledge of Dragon.

I'm using 15.3 and my Dragon bar doesn't look like yours. In the 'collapsed' state it looks the same, but in the usable state my Dragon bar only shows 'Tools', 'Settings' and the microphone indicator coloured circle. Did I install Dragon incorrectly? Also, while it recognises dictation fairly well, I cannot use any of the editing commands, except for 'scratch that', 'new line' and 'new paragraph'. It's been very very frustrating having to edit via keyboard. Again, is this an installation issue? I'd appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks

Version 15.61.200.010 Profile>Manage User Profiles>User>Advanced>Export allows me to back my C drive's User Profile up to an external HDD that I in turn backup to two identical HDDs. If ever my machine crashes and is unrecoverable, I can install Pro Individual on a new machine without the need to start a new profile from scratch. HOWEVER, because my SSD C drive has only GBs of space remaining but my external HDD has TBs, I will likely instead create a New Profile on the external HDD so I can save space on my C drive for strictly my OS and other programs.

Out of interest is this software a stand-alone product and can you keep your voice recording private? Just got to the part of the video where your thinking like me.. so how do you keep your data from crossing over? Thanks for the video.. be searching for the keywords title: how to keep your voice recognition content as private property without losing the quality of service from updates etc

As long as you decline to send your content back to Nuance for analysis it SHOULD remain private to you. Of course I can't give an iron clad guarantee that that's the case since I have never and will never see the source code but if Nuance were to violate privacy in that way it would have the potential to kill the company. I'd say it's therefore a safe bet that they don't. This is of course different with Dragon Anywhere, which is a cloud based solution. There the transcription engine is cloud based so all data will by definition end up with Nuance. The biggest issue that I can see is Nuance dumping development of the desktop application and pivoting entirely to Dragon Anywhere. I have no inside information that they plan to do this but there has been no new development or at least updates on V15 for over a year, which is not a good sign.

@@TheTM1Channel but if it's a stand-alone product then it can remain in it's level without upgrades unless you want improvements, right?

found that I need a shortcut to the .exe of Outlook and Word on the desktop; system tray won't do. Then Dragon will open those by voice command.
@TheTM1Channel
@TheTM1Channel 4 жыл бұрын
@@donwest1869 That shouldn't be necessary; what command are you using? If you're using "Click Word" then yes, there would need to be something to click like a shortcut. However "Start Microsoft Word" is the standard command that I use. I just tested "Start Microsoft Outlook" and that worked as well. Actually "Start Word" also launched Microsoft Word.

@@TheTM1Channel No, I just tried "Start/Open Word,"or "Start/Open Microsoft Word"(with no .exe shortcut on desktop, and it just types that into Dictation Box. Restore the shortcut to the desktop, and it opens fine. Nuance tech support told me it has to be on the desktop; I always take tech support people with a grain of salt. New eps coming? Would like to see full Word tutorials and number tips. Enjoy your series. very informative.

@@TheTM1Channel PS...Office 2019/64-bit system, Win 10 OK, here's a "workaround?" If I navigate to the Microsoft folder where the .exe files reside (yes, I know they are in a folder called "root," then make a shortcut of that to the desktop, then drag that (basically pin ) it to taskbar, the apps are opening when I say "Open Microsoft"

@@TheTM1Channel I I take that back; just re-tested Word, and it opens as I described, but not Outlook. It only seems to open if the shortcut is actually on the desktop.Maybe it's time for 15.4 to be developed?
