You refer to the Straddle Carrier as a Crawler and a Travel Lift. The latter is the company trade name. I was one of certified operators at Marine Projects in the U.K. We were certified up to 40 Tons as that was the biggest boat we built then (65 Ft). If you look from the top it is u shaped and the open end always goes out to the water first. The boat then had to reverse in so that the lowest part is under cross beam and the cabin and superstructure can lift high enough to get the boat out. This is why they changed to the shorter strops and saved time by just tying up the cranes longer ones

So, what do you think this cost the Captain of the HMS Stinky Firewood?

See the name on the transom "PILE OF SHIP"

Gonna take a guess that the owner of the sunk boat owns the pile driving company.... And the state threatened him with huge fines if he did not recover the boat. Using his own guys during slack times was probably the cheapest route.

Sure bud! 😂 Like the owner of the company would have an old rotten fishing boat!

So who do you suppose is extra? Those crane guys you see standing around were setting up that crane before you got up for breakfast. The salvage guys are running back and forth with those three inch trash pumps, hefting them aboard along with the hoses. And keep in mind, they did raise the vessel.

those are called "Spuds" IIRC.

Talk about incompetence. And yes, I have done better. Many many times. That tugboat operator has no idea what he's doing. Pull the boat upstream, swing around and put it on a hip tow, point it perpendicular to the stream and let the current help you float it into the slip.
@johngillon69693 жыл бұрын
That seems obvious to you. You have a different view of things from your position in front of your computer. It seems i would also done it allot differently. I think that if he is at the wheel of that expensive tug boat, he has much more experience than you or i. Every time i have tried something like this, what can go wrong does go wrong, and you just have to forget the plan and try not to sink the boat. Also it sucks now with all the cameras and youtube, you can't get away with anything.

@@flick22601 please sir i meant no offense. if you will read my comment, i think i was defending the actions of the skipper in the video saying that we just have our perspective and when you are behind the wheel it is a different reality. sorry you took offense, it was not intended. Just sayin it is a tug and not a battleship. that would impress me. So take it easy, remember tough guys have thick skin.

How long was that thing sunk? You don’t fill up 1/8 of the boat with mud in 2 weeks. That thing had to have been sitting there for a while. Prob how ever long it took him to get paid by his insurance co for the insurance job he surely pulled on that pos. It floated much better when it was called the Jenny and Forrest Gump and Lieutenant Dan had it.
@jimjonrs39324 жыл бұрын
Insurance? No company would insure a old wooden hulled boat in that condition.

It looks a rotten old wreck. It must of cost £5000 it man power and lifting cranes. It sunk because of rotten wood. And now the inside and engine are watwer logged. scrap or a massive project.
