The boat may be compartmentalized but if the bulkhead doors or hatches are open it will do no good. Some one had deep pockets, many hands, two cranes, barges, pumps,

Even a sidewalk expert can see that lift bags should have been used and that there's a lot of time and money being wasted here.

I can raise that boat up with just a series of balloon jacks attached on the sides near the center of the boat so that the rails can be above the waterline and speed up the pumping out of water
@allanclose96845 жыл бұрын
Looks like they wasted a lot of time and man power.

Not much pride in his boat, looks a wreck. Yes the air bags seems best., and faster.

I never knew such a small boat could hold so much water.

How many engineers would it take to figure out how the water got into the boat so it could be patched and lessen the time and fuel required to pump the water out?
@190055joe5 жыл бұрын
All that money spent on recovery would of been better spent on the boats maintenance .
@glasslinger4 жыл бұрын
Better spent hauling it out to sea and sinking it!

Hey look I'm no Marine Salvage professional but but with small trash pumps running 24 /7 it wouldn't be enough they actually need Commercial monster pumps designed to pump massive amounts of water so they can first get it empty then find out why it sunk at the dock in the first place barring some catastrophic impact or huge hull breach ? after all the boat has a Prop shaft seal and a rudder shaft seal right ? whatelse does this ship have that could allow enough water to enter that the pumps couldn't handle ?
@JohnScott-hs3rf5 жыл бұрын
There will be lots of sea suction valves in the hull. Underwater valves for wash-down pumps, engine cooling pumps etc. I'd guess by the condition of the boat that a pipe has rusted through and is leaking water into the boat.
@tiredoldmechanic17915 жыл бұрын
That was my first thought too. The barges that haul the cranes should have some 10 inch or larger pumps so they put suction hoses on the sunken boat.

I wonder why they didn't use lift bags?

Looks like a pile of scrap boat anyways. Needs a dry dock after that. My guess is its seen its better days. The owner is probably spending the price of a replacement boat just to refloat that wreck. They could have taken it out to sea and sank it afterwards as a fish habitat after draining out the oil and fuel. Not much left to save considering all the electronics are wasted.

Ok so here's my foolish thought, I've watched so many sinking video where everyone just stands there and watch helplessly while they sink. So here's my thought, They have Tugboat with huge engines dedicated just for pushing so why not have a boat with a huge pumping engine just for pumping out water from a sinking boat but it would alse includes some kinda Foam sealant that works under water pumping in to seal a hole.
@Cthippo14 жыл бұрын
It doesn't take a huge pump to keep it afloat before it sinks, it just takes a small one that runs ALL the time, or at least always works when needed. This boat didn't sink because a new hole suddenly opened up in her hull somewhere, she sank because she has some number of small holes and the pump on board quit working for some reason. That reason can be as simple as a pump breaking, the switch that turns it on not working, a power outage or something (commonly a plastic bag) getting stuck in the suction.

The bald guy blue shirt- no hard hat, running shoes, no life jacket, no gloves not part of this crew. Got his nose in everything. Part owner? Ask him if he knows how it sank, bet he gets real nervous.

Holding on to the lifting straps Jesus he must not like his life very much as he be gone if they snap. Looks like a very unorganised bunch. Strikes the kinda people who will tell you down the pub they done it all seen it all... but a in general pretty crap in there job.

The last person is on the right track i would use on both sides 5000 gallons tanks with holes on the underside and air hose connections on top, and get pumps ready.

Is it me, or do these guys seem to be deliberately slacking off?
@thekingsilverado90046 жыл бұрын
What you see is what you don't understand from your bar stool. The guy in the blue shirt is the owner and he's callin the shots for one number two pumps can only pump so fast and as they are pumping they are realizing there is still some leak taking on water the pumps don't seem to emptying the boat. So they are letting the experts look for the problem and taking a break not slacking. This shit is hard work mentally an physically. I worked for 3 salvage companies and it is hard work the reason I now restore old trucks for a living.

In order for pumps to work you need to at least cover the holes, plastic works fine. These guys are charging by the hour cause they keep trying to out pump Mother Nature. Pure amateur hour. Drag it into the shallows at high tide and when the tide goes down it will drain. Once it’s exposed light the wood on fire. It’s not worth the time they put in raising it.

If you could raise boats with shouting, machismo and testosterone it would have come up like a cork! With the hourly rate of the crane barges mounting, the sense of desperation and the pump count rose such that it was difficult to tell latterly if they were intending to pump the boat or the river dry! I'm left with a definite sense of the salvaging being insurance funded and driven by EPA reasons and not the salvage value!

They can't leave the damn thing in the water. Even if they scrap it they have to get it out of the water first and then take it out of the marina.
