Put a zip tie on the end that does not have the clip. You will never have to worry about it coming apart or losing part of it. kzfaq.infoUgkxxvthjLYk8bJwhOkjNsLvPwnSKZmnHeT1 The diameter of the holes are about 2 1/2". They can still get out if there is no bait in the trap. You can also use a zip tie to keep the bait in place. I use a can of Sardines in oil with hole punched in it wired to the bottom and then loose Chicken or fish. This keeps them there longer, but if left long enough the trap will be empty. I learned this the hard way. I threw the trap in and watched it aMost fill up. Like a dummy, I got greedy, when I came back in an hour, all were gone except four. Good buy for the money!

Bro yes! I finally bought a trap and have been catching dozens of mud minnows here in Virginia, absolutely kills the trout and redfish!

We use bait traps like that in fresh water. I used to catch Smallmouth, Largemouth Bass, as well as minnows and shiners back in the 1980’s. I used to bring a few home to my aquarium. Cheers

In the U.K. we have Phoxinus phoxinus, the Minnow. A distinct species. The young of other fish generally get called 'fry'. As a young-un I loved Minnow bashing, but one day caught one I swear to this day would have been a record! We used to fish small ones under floats for Perch and eels too. I caught a tiny Pike on one once too, around 3" long. Great video's, you're a skilled angler, love them.

I started using minnow traps for mud minnows this year Rich. I usually use dead crabs or just crush up dead sand fleas for bait to catch these suckers. I have not caught a redfish on mud minnows yet. Anyway here in Florida our slot limit is 18” to 27”. I live in Daytona Beach so our bag limit is only 1 per person but the north part of Florida is 2. Redfish is my favorite saltwater fish to catch and keep, if it’s a slot

Just started watching your videos and I have to say they are pretty good. Started following you from where you fished the Florida Keys. I'm from Florida and that's what caught my attention on these videos. I live in Perry Florida which is located in Taylor County. We have a 125 miles of coastline. The most of any county in Florida. Lots of good fishing here if you ever decide to come visit and try your luck. I don't get to go much anymore due to health conditions but I like your style of fishing so much I decided to subscribed to your channel. That way I can sit back and enjoy watching you fish. So keep on fishing and making those videos. It's the next best thing to being there myself.

I use and mud minnows often and they always produce. I use a trap to catch mine as well and found that if you can get a cut up blue crab in your trap for bait you tend to catch more of the bigger minnows.

The little ones always smack the crap out of it up there, the big guys just slurp up the minnow and keep swimming around until you put a little pressure on them and sink the hook, then they fly out and pull drag. So Fun.

Use dogfood in the minnow trap.. has a nice oil sheen that will bring in a ton of minnows.

If you can find any of the mussels that hang on pilings or ones along the shore at low tide crush up a bunch of those and throw them in the trap. They work pretty well

Circle hook through tail may work better. Add a weight and some beads above it.

Use a piece of the fish carcass or crushed up crabs it will last longer then the bread. You can still add bread also.

Best minnow trap bait: take a can of cat food and punch some holes in it with a screwdriver. It lasts a long time

The first Casts could have been without bites because you used sunscreen before and it get on the minnows. A friend of mine had the same problem in agypt :)

Texas red has to be between 20"-28 to keep without a tag and trout has to be 15-28. Now, they do not allow you to keep any flounder from Nov. 1 to Dec 14. The state regulation is getting stricter every year.

Those mud minnows are flounder candy. Look for oyster beds at creek mouths and bends, use a fish finder, knocker type rig so the minnow can swim a little. Reds and trout like that setup also. Love the content, but stay in the south, stripers are boring, LoL

Curious to know if you wash your hands after putting on sunblock. I apply it at home beforehand, so that incould wash my hands. It probably hindered you early on.

FYI you can keep the killis on a damp paper towel with a ice pack under it and they will survive all day like that and once they hit the water they wake up. Easier to carry them around like that.
